23.01.2022 It seems that May has been the month of Messy Play at The Learning Cottage Wollongbar. Messy play has so many benefits for young children. It encourages sensory exploration, the introduction of scientific concepts like gravity, solids and liquids, and prediction, and an understanding of cause and effect and trial and error. Messy play has no right way, so it opens opportunities to foster confidence and self-esteem while providing valuable social interactions that involve lots of laughter, eye contact and sharing of space. Messy play can come in an array of forms including bubbles, playdough, outdoor water painting, slime, goop, and all kinds of variations of these.

20.01.2022 Children love pretend play, and we are excited to have our brand new outdoor kitchen to play out cooking scenes from our home life, and practice all those very important self-help skills. It’s also a fun place to hang out with our friends and chat and sing.

19.01.2022 We all had such a great National Pyjama Day on Friday. The Crossing Cafe in Alstonville donated a whole lot of Nat’s Coffee cups and for us to have hot chocolate in while we watched a movie and ate popcorn. We raised $100 for foster children while having all the snuggly fun! @Natscoffeeco @thecrossingcafe

17.01.2022 Today we gave our lovely cubby a little face lift. I hope the children love playing in the new open cubby. From drab to fab

15.01.2022 We would like to wish all our families and the Wollongbar community a very happy and healthy Easter! It has been a time of change with major shifts in our daily lives, including a feeling of disconnection that social distancing inherently could bring. But through it all you have been wonderfully supportive of The Learning Cottage Wollongbar. You have made us and our educators feel so valued within the community. ... We want to thank you all for your genuine support, consideration and assistance in keeping our centre feeling alive and well! Thank you to those of you who are at home but still fostering your relationships and connections with us through Story Park. To our families who are still attending the service thank you for your positivity and support. We truly appreciate you all. Most of all we want to give a huge thank you to all of our Educators at The Learning Cottage Wollongbar! Your dedication, enthusiasm for what you do and your genuine relationships with the children and community is greatly appreciated. Happy Easter everyone! Warm Regards, The Learning Cottage Wollongbar

09.01.2022 We have recently introduced a new ritual in our daily program for the non-sleeping children, and the rest of the cohort when they wake. We are enjoying a warming cup of herbal tea.

04.01.2022 The Learning Cottage Wollongbar's team has signed up to do 10,000 steps a day for the next eight days. While our team laces up their sneakers show your support and donate today! You’ll be helping to create a more inclusive and autistic friendly Australia. A huge thank you to all our families who have already donated! https://www.walkforautism.org.au//thelearningcottagewollon @initforautism #INITforAUTISM #Walkforautism2

02.01.2022 We're so excited to have begun a new year with a new environment, children and families, while welcoming back those who we have known for awhile! The children have loved exploring our new learning spaces and resources while their educators have been focusing on supporting their interests, areas of strength and development. We're looking forward to initiating 'Vege month' apart of the Munch and Move program! We'll be exploring the garden alongside this experience, allowing our... children to grow and nurture their own plants. In the Preschool Room the children are exploring the many cultures that make up our community and world. The Chinese New Year gave our Preschoolers a chance to research and discuss this culture and celebration! What a wonderful journey we have had so far, we're looking forward to the exciting visits, excursions and projects to come!
