16.01.2022 We are so excited to be celebrating book week! Each day we will be choosing a favourite book as our focus. Today's book was.... 'We are Going on a Bear Hunt' The children read the story then went on their own bear hunt. They were able to use their feet to feel all of the different textures. The swishing grass, the squishy squashy mud, the cool river, the bark from the forest and the favourite, the cold ice from the snow storm.... We even had a special treat of teddy bear trail mix for afternoon tea.

14.01.2022 From 3rd-7th August is Early Learning Matters Week. Each day this week, we will showcase one area of early learning that we believe is important to our children's learning journey. Today we will look at Language Priority.... "Language priority can turn an ordinary event into a chance for learning". A language rich environment is not only having books to read, but it is using rich and expressive language, almost like we are narrating the day! Songs, rhymes and stories as well as written words around the classroom make up a large part of our daily program. See more

12.01.2022 Early Learning Matters Week. Risky Play Risky or adventurous play is something we encourage everyday at the Learning Cove. Climbing, balancing, tumbling, hanging, sliding and swinging are not only are great fun, but are important skills for coordination and muscle development. This type of play also encourages children to be inventive and problem solve as well as to develop the confidence to try new things.

09.01.2022 As part of our NAIDOC week celebrations, the children at The Learning Cove have been exploring the Dreamtime story 'The Rainbow Seperpent'. We learnt that it is believed that Double Island is the resting place for the Rainbow Seperpent, who is responsible for all of the water in the land. Today we look off on an adventure to find Double Island. After a short walk down the path and across the beautiful board walk we made it to Palm Cove Beach and as we looked across at the water we noticed two islands. A small island and a big island with two mountains. That the big island must be it, the children decided as double means 2!! We did it we found Double Island!! How lucky are we to live so close to this special place.

09.01.2022 This week we have experimented with all things balloons. After watching a really cool video on YouTube of ballons popping in slow motion, the children thought we should create our own. We think our video is pretty awesome too!

03.01.2022 Early Learning Matters Week Enriched caregiving is embedded into all aspects of our day at The Learning Cove. Enriched caregiving is about making the most of routine times, such as meal and nappy change times and having lots of interactions using rich language, and seeing these times as teachable moments. We believe in children being a huge part of their routines, and encourage them to be actively involved in the routine. As well as lots of interactions during these times, children are also encouraged to help set up their beds, serve themselves meals and even help clean up.

03.01.2022 "Run, run, run as fast as you can, you can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man!!"

03.01.2022 "I need jumps and tracks for my motorbike" Through promoting agency, we are allowing children to make decisions and choices that influence their worlds.

02.01.2022 Early Learning Matters Week Our large natural outdoor yard, is one of our favourite parts of our centre. Huge open grassed areas to run, fruit and herb gardens to taste and lots of trees and bushes to explore. Outdoor play plays a significant part in of children's learning as it gives them the freedom to explore the environment in an open ended environment, where there is no right or wrong answer. They are free to explore, climb, dig, make noise as well as to take part in adventuous play. Through gardening, we are also encouraging children to begin to take an interest in their environment and take care and nurture our plants.

02.01.2022 A warm North Queensland day calls for ice play! Strengthening our fine motor skills using droppers and tongs to manipulate the ice. Have you ever tried to pick up ice with tongs? Not an easy task, but these guys nailed it!!

01.01.2022 This week, we had the Fire truck come and visit us at the centre. The fire fighters told us, not only do they fight fires, they also help the community in so many other ways. Fire fighter Steven put on the protective gear to show us what they wear to keep themselves safe in fires. We were even allowed to jump on his foot, because he had special boots that were super strong to keep his toes safe! Fire fighter Steph showed us all around the fire truck and told us about the di...fferent tools they keep in the truck. Fire fighter Jeff had the best job of the day, he was the one to show us how the fire hose worked, it goes so much higher than our hose, it could easily reach the top of the tall palm tree!! But our favourite part was when they put a hat on the fire hose and blasted it so high into the sky! It was awesome. Thanks so much to the lovely fire-fighters from the Smithfield station who gave up their time to show us what an important part of the community they are.
