25.01.2022 Don't self prescribe rest. It is important to load the system during recovery. See one of our physios sooner rather than later for guidance on how to safely incorporate exercise while injured #GetLivelyMackay

24.01.2022 Cherishing the sunrise and a quick dip this morning

24.01.2022 "There are just no decent Physios in the North Pole so every year I make sure to book in at Lively Physiotherapy when I'm heading south. The humidity kills me in this suit but it's worth it, the Physios here are just so good!" - Santa #GetLivelyMackay Dislcaimer: possibly a paid actor.

22.01.2022 Morning strolls to soak up the sunshine and Eungella countryside Always delightful! Everyone's had their share of stresses this year. Perhaps schedule in a little self care this weekend. Our top tips for mental well-being are: Participate in meaningful activities i.e. picnics, ocean swims, dance offs, food prep.. whatever floats your boat. Get 30 minutes of outdoors time daily (Slip, slop, slap though). ... Eat 5 vegetables and 2 fruits daily. Stock up at the markets tomorrow. Exercise. Wash your hair (not exactly evidence-based but it had been a week since I washed mine and I feel bloody fantastic now that I have clean hair). Sleep! I finished a big assignment and a family tub of Nutella this week so going to indulge in a little self care this weekend (including all of the above). If you have any other hot tips let us know!! -Steph #GetLivelyMackay #MyMackay

22.01.2022 We will be bringing you more Physio related content soon but until then, check out the Blackdown Tableland National Park

20.01.2022 What does delicious alcohol free wine and myofascial adhesions have in common? They don't exist! "Adhesions have commonly been used as an explanation for the source of an individual’s pain, loss of mobility, etc. Subsequently, this has spawned countless treatment systems used to address these alleged patho-anatomical anomalies. This concept of myofascial adhesions is perpetuated in the industry despite the paucity of actual scientific support." "In summary, outside of pathol...ogy, trauma (including surgery), or genetic conditions, there is little to no support for the presence of myofascial adhesions, scar tissue formation, or muscular fibrosis in human beings." -Sam Spinelli (2020). This is taster of a blog written for the Physio Network. If you are a therapist, trainer or someone who has an interest in the body, have a read #GetLivelyMackay

19.01.2022 Still in love with your front counter GypsyandtheBowerbird Thanks for helping me with Christmas shopping this morning x

17.01.2022 Another sunset pic

17.01.2022 Topped off the weekend with Bluey, blueberries and a bath. Did you do anything equally as exciting this weekend!? (That's no sarcasm - I had a blast!).

16.01.2022 Enjoying a cuppa and an interesting read by Danae Gardner, Women's health Physio at Vital Core Physiotherapy. Her recent blog post on MENAPAUSE AND THE GUT is a must read for any woman heading towards or going through menopause. "Poorly managed constipation or stress can cause progesterone levels to drop faster, leaving an excess of oestrogen. Leaving women open to certain ‘trademark’ symptoms of menopause that are oestrogen-dominant hot flushes, mood swings and central weight gain, to name a few." 16.01.2022 "Injuries often occur after doing too much too soon after doing too little for too long" -Someone Smart. No deconditioned squash enthusiasts were hurt in the making of this photograph Squash Courts 52

15.01.2022 Sam and I recently went for our annual skin check. Full disclosure I turned up to my appointment 8 months late How long has it been since you went for yours?

15.01.2022 Life in the slow lane

12.01.2022 That's a wrap. See you next year! A quick shout out to the health professionals, emergency services, retailers and other workers who are business as usual over the festive season! Big thanks

10.01.2022 Enjoying the sunshine with this snuggly bear until my coffee runs out.. so drinking very slowly. A recent systematic review reported that there is moderate quality evidence to suggest coffee helps with exercise performance. I'm going to let my own personal biases influence my interpretation of their results to support my, questionably excessive consumption of coffee each day to "improve general life performance".

09.01.2022 Little Wolfang Peak. But not the peak. This is halfway up

08.01.2022 Our little blossom Her first cutting lesson with grandad. Enjoying a quick cuppa while she is briefly mesmerised

08.01.2022 Nick making use of some free time since finishing his Post Grad! Great post from these guys at Advance Physiotherapy in Airlie Beach, "Train the movement and the muscle. Do not underestimate the importance if isolated muscle work. Acommon myth is "if it's not functional, it's not important". This is completely untrue. You can not have function without a good base of strength. Muscle weakness is acommon cause of pain and injury. Addressing both weakness and movement impairments is essential for injury management and prevention as well as enhancing performance."

08.01.2022 Perfect spot for a cuppa before the day begins

03.01.2022 Merry Christmas!!! Massive thanks to Santa for making an appearance at work during the week. Apologies that the photographer was distracted by a distraught toddler and accidentally focused all Santa photos on Bec. Looking good though Bec

03.01.2022 Nick enjoying some well earned downtime at the InterContinental Hayman Island Resort Nick works for us 3 days a week then drives to Airlie to work with his wife at their new Physiotherapy clinic Advance Physiotherapy Whitsunday. In his spare time he likes to study . Nick, Sarah and Steph are all completing additional university studies through La Trobe University to become titled Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists. This takes 3-5 years, no blood, but some sweat and tears. Sam is the only titled Sports Physiotherapist in Mackay after finishing his post graduate Masters degree a few years ago. For any Physio's contemplating doing post graduate studies we strongly recommend it! Hard work but certainly guides you towards becoming a more knowledgeable and capable clinician.

02.01.2022 Another wonderfully homely weekend full of fam catch ups, swimming, snuggles, grazing and gardening What did you get up to?

01.01.2022 Do you do strength work? Only 15% of adults meet these guidelines?
