I'm listening to what you say, what you don't say, and hold space for you with an open heart and an open mind. Deep listening is a practice that can support us (and those around us) in every day conversations too. 04.01.2022 Perspective... It's a funny thing. For example, sand in your shoes, or in your swimmers (!) is deeply uncomfortable. It chafes, it's annoying, it's frustrating. At other times though... How nice is it to walk bare foot in warm sand? The feeling is delicious. Have you ever strolled along a beach, deliberately walking in the wet sand just to be able to watch your footprints disappear beneath the incoming waves? It's a game I loved when I ...was small, and still love today. It's the same stuff that we hate in our shoes but love between our toes. The sand hasn't changed. Just us. By taking our shoes off, our experience of the sand changes instantly and dramatically. A small change, a much better outcome. It's clear that not everything in life always has such obvious or easy solutions, but many things in do. Sometimes, all we need to do is a little tweaking. In our day to day lives, a little 'tweaking' might be going to bed earlier or meal planning for the week ahead. In our work lives, a little tweaking might be scheduling a development conversation with your manager or creating some 'inbox rules' for your emails. Small changes can lead to better outcomes and a whole new perspective. Throughout our careers and professional lives, there are thousands of threads of curiosity that we might follow. #DavidEpstein talks about this in his fascinating book 'Range'. By tasting everything, by exploring the buffet of things that are curious, things that we're interested in, things that capture our attention, we're ...well on the way to finding our professional sweet spot (ok, so I'm seriously paraphrasing here!) He says: 'If we treated careers more like dating, nobody would settle down so quickly.' It's ok to try several things, it's ok to take time in finding your professional sweet spot, it's ok to ask questions of yourself, and reflect on what drives you and what makes you happy and feel fulfilled. If you're at a professional cross-roads and asking yourself some of these questions, this is time when development coaching can help.
