23.01.2022 The food we put into our body forms a large basis of how we feel. There are certain foods that will reduce feelings of anxiety and depression, and certain ones that will make things worse. These relate to all mental health just not postnatal. TRYPTOPHAN the building block of serotonin. Our body cannot make this on its own, it needs to be obtained from our diet. Tryptophan is super high in our comforting carbohydrate foods that is the reason why when we feel down we ...reach for those foods! Found in bananas, dark choc, oats, eggs, chicken, cheese. FATTY FISH I could rave about omega-3’s all day. Studies proven there is an increase in depression with low intake of omega-3 fatty oils. Have 2-4 serves a week - salmon, sardines, herring, tuna. CUT DOWN ON SUGAR depression and anxiety love sugar. It will give us a temporary hit of energy and pleasure, but our body will have to work hard to get our blood sugar controlled and it causes feelings of irritability, fogginess, moodiness. MAGNESIUM FOODS most people with depression also have low magnesium. Good levels will suppress too much cortisol being produced it is literally our natural chill-pill. Magnesium also helps cells make energy. Which we desperately need when caring for a newborn baby It also makes our anti-anxiety hormone + promotes sleep. Sources are almonds, black beans, cashews, pumpkin seeds, and dark chocolate *if you have anxiety or depression, food sources of these nutrients will not usually be enough and adequate practitioner prescribing is needed* See more

22.01.2022 For any of my patients, if you could take a few mins to give me a google review, I would so appreciate it It'll get me to a wider space so I can help more women https://g.page/thenatalnaturopath/review?rc

22.01.2022 What are you or your partner doing today... that you wouldn't do if either one of you was pregnant with your bub?

22.01.2022 This is why women get terrible skin issues after coming off the pill... 1. Rebound sebum production occurs 2. A temporary surge in androgens (male hormones, testosterone) as the ovaries are in the process of kicking back into action after being shut down on the pill ... Unless you see a naturopath to get hormones sorted, usually this rebound effect can last months and months

22.01.2022 HORMONES OUT OF BALANCE Do you get these symptoms somewhere in your cycle? - cravings - sore breasts... - bloated - irritability, moody - anxiety gets worse - pimple breakouts - heavy bleeding - painful periods - irregular periods or none at all These are all signs that something isn't quite right with your hormones. So many women get PMS which is a lot of the above symptoms, and are an emotional mess leading up to their period. Yep I used to get PMS all the time too. It doesn’t have to be this crazy hormone thing where you lose yourself every month. You can live PMS-free and understand your hormones and bodies, just contact me herbal medicines are the most powerful hormonal modulators See more

22.01.2022 SEX DRIVE Dopamine, estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone play an excitatory role in sexual desire, whereas serotonin, prolactin, and opioids play an inhibitory role. Lowered sex drive can be due to a reduced level of excitatory activity, an increased level of inhibitory activity, or both.... Feel this is an issue for you? Reach out to me!

22.01.2022 DEPRESSION In Australia, nearly 1 in 10 people experience major depression. Usually the first line of treatment is medication such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibtors - but studies show that less than 50% of depressed patients actually feel better on the drug. Plus there is plenty of negative side effects such as weight gain, insomnia, nausea and constipation. Where we stand now, there may have been an exaggeration of the benefit of antidepressants and an underes...timation of their harm. Many studies looking at SSRI's are often funded by the pharmaceutical industry (increasing the risk of bias), many compare medication to medication, instead of using a placebo, serious adverse events are often unreported or concealed and in mental health conditions the placebo effect tends to be particularly strong. It seems that we are all focusing too much on simply altering the chemicals in our brains and not looking at the bigger picture? Depression is the result of many pathways not functioning properly. Treating mental health is one of my passions so please reach out to me if I can be of help See more

22.01.2022 Did you know a lack of good fats in your diet can be a contributing factor behind hormonal imbalances? Hormones like oestrogen, progesterone and testosterone are formed from fat and cholesterol; without fats, hormone production would suffer. EAT MORE FAT ... But focus on healthy fats and eliminate damaged fats like vegetable oils, margarine, shortening, and other processed and packaged foods.

21.01.2022 TRYING FOR A BABY AND STRESS// I have so many patients trying for a baby, it's taking them months, it's so heartbreaking. They go to the doctor who runs all sorts of tests which are usually normal - and then it's like now what? Stress isn't being acknowledged nearly enough. What stress does on our body is insane. If you're in a really stressful environment which you might not even notice anymore because it's your normal, or you have internal stress going on... Your body... as an animal would say, "Drop this load. You are not healthy enough to have something that's quite parasitic, sucking the life out of you right now when I'm struggling to just keep you alive myself." So if you feel like that might be happening for you, come and chat to me See more

18.01.2022 BLOATED? MIGHT NEED SOME DIGESTIVE ENZYMES // Fruits like pineapple and kiwi pack a digestive punch with a load of enzymes for us to use. Bloating and a feeling of utter heaviness after a protein heavy meal may mean you're lacking adequate amounts of digestive enzymes. ... Adding kiwi and pineapple to your every day diet will go a long way in being able to get more nutrients out of our food and soothe our gut lining But if you think your gut health is needing some specific work, get in contact with me!

18.01.2022 We all know the feeling of being ushered out of the doctors clinic feeling defeated and unheard, just accepting that feeling of "rock bottom" is how we have to live... I'm here to tell you, you don't need to accept that, you just need someone who looks a little deeper Also, who's joining us for ROUND TWO of my postnatal wellness course?

18.01.2022 Just a naturopath on a mission to get people asking more questions "Why do I have IBS?" "Why do I have every symptom of an under active thyroid but you are saying my bloods are fine?" "Why is my iron never coming up?"... "Why am I exhausted all the time even though my baby sleeps through the night?" "Why do I overreacted to every minor thing my kids do with anger and frustration?" "Why do my hormones feel so out of balance?" "Why do I have unexplained fertility?" There is always an answer, a reason!! And mostly every time it's TREATABLE! Don't take your doctors dismissive phrases as gospel, please!

18.01.2022 3 WAYS ALCOHOL IS IMPACTING YOUR MENTAL HEALTH during ISO Have you ever noticed you feel more anxious the day after drinking alcohol? Your anxiousness will completely disappear after having a few drinks no doubt, but the next day it comes back ten-fold. Here are three reasons why... HAPPY HORMONES... Alcohol actually increases the amount of happy hormones we have when drinking - GABA - our calming hormone Serotonin - our happy hormone Dopamine - our motivation/pleasure hormone No wonder we feel so fantastic after having a few drinks, but this depletes the amount we have in our brain so once they leave we feel much worse than before. Drains us emotionally, literally leaving our mental health so much worse! SLEEP Alcohol increases our sleep-inducing chemical, adenosine. That's why we can feel quite sleepy after a few. But this doesn't mean the quality of our sleep will be great, you may never get into a deep sleep and toss and turn all night waking completely unrefreshed. And how much worse does our mental health feel after a shocking night's sleep? LOSS OF NUTRIENTS Alcohol depletes us of many key nutrients such as B vitamins, zinc and magnesium. Using these up means we have less to be able to make our happy, calming hormones triggering anxiety and depression. PM me if you think alcohol might be impacting your mental health and tag your drinking-lovin' friends below See more

17.01.2022 MIRENA IUD Let's go over the pro's and con's of the mirena. PRO's ... - it dramatically decreases menstrual flow - can relieve symptoms of endometriosis - does not completely shut down ovulation and hormone production. Officially it doesnt suppress ovulation at all, but one study found that it does suppress ovulation in 85 percent of cycles during the first year (when the dose of the levonorgestrel drug is higher), and then in 15 percent of cycles after that. Remember, ovulation is beneficial because its the only way to make estradiol and progesterone - lower dose of a contraceptive drug - more effective than almost any other method CONS - releases the contraceptive drug levonorgestrel, which is not progesterone. The systemic effects of levonorgestrel include acne, hair loss, hirsutism, depression, anxiety, headaches, breast pain, yeast infections, and weight gain - damages the vaginal microbiome and increases the risk of yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis. - It suppresses ovulation some of the time - can cause irregular bleeding and spotting during the first three to six months of use. After that, it may completely suppress bleeding or permit a light period. (if you do have a period on the mirena, it is REAL period - unlike the pill which is a fake period). - its riskier if youre breastfeeding. Theres a greater chance of IUD expulsion and uterine perforation while breastfeeding. Also, levonorgestrel does enter breast milk and reach the baby. BOTTOM LINE The hormonal IUD is not as healthy as non-hormonal methods such as condoms, cycle tracking, Daysy contraceptive device, and the copper IUD. However, it does have the major advantage of reducing menstrual flow and helping to relieve the pain of endometriosis and adenomyosis.

17.01.2022 No photo to go with this, So here's my middle babe River Have you ever thought what your over-reactive nervous system / anxiety might be telling you... - dont starve me! Feed me every 3 hours otherwise our blood sugar levels go to low... - We are deficient in some nutrients, Im craving zinc and magnesium - Our diet is limited, we dont eat enough variety so im lacking in things like omega-3 - I feel like I want to protect us right now - we are drinking way too much caffeine! - Our gut bacteria garden has weeds everywhere, we need to start nourishing our garden - that baby we just had, wow they really made our hormones go crazy, I want our hormones to go back to normal please! - You dont put us first - Our thyroid is not working properly, it might be buzzing to high, or too sluggish Let's figure out which it is, and its likely a combination of many. Research shows that higher populations of Lactobacillus bacteria help with managing anxiety. 16.01.2022 How do you need to take care of your body some more? Is it getting that blood test you've been putting off for a while? Is it going to see your massage therapist or Chiro? Is it getting more sleep, drinking less coffee, taking time to meditate?

15.01.2022 My sister just said this to me, ain't this truth! Just because you don't have a disease, or a health condition that has been diagnosed... doesn't mean you are in good health, feeling good, and have no imbalances that need to be sorted... otherwise you may end up developing a health concern/condition/disease if you leave it

13.01.2022 ELEVIT NO THANKS // Where to start on this one! Everyone has heard of Elevit the pregnancy multi-vitamin. It ain’t so great Pregnancy is no time to cut corners with nutrition, your baby can’t afford you to. ... Why I choose practitioner brands in favour of an over the counter supplement: B VITAMINS At the top of your bubba’s nutrient needs are B vitamins (folate, B12, and B6) which develop your babe’s nervous system + neural tube. Elevit contains 800 mcg of folic acid BUT it is synthetic and may actually clog folate receptors in your digestive tract causing low absorption of other folate sources. Plus if you have the MTHFR gene (most of the world does), you need folinic acid - the already semi broken down version of folic acid. The rest of the B Vitamins in Elevit are in such tiny amounts they literally won’t have any benefits. Just in there for show ZINC Elevit contains very low dose zinc sulphate, which is poorly absorbed form of zinc & can actually use up your antioxidant reserves. Not to mention, you will NOT get stretch marks if you zinc stores are high so you need a higher dose CALCIUM Growing an entire skeleton means you need a lot of calcium, and the amount in Elevit would barely cut it to grow a big toe bone! VITAMIN D Contains next to no vitamin D. If a pregnant woman is deficient in vitamin D, her baby will have to be supplemented via oral drops for its first year its pretty important for a growing baby. Low levels are also linked to pre-eclampsia and abnormal bone growth for baby. you can read about this and MORE in my pregnancy ebook for only $24.99 https://www.thenatalnaturopath.com.au//pregnancy-care-ebook

13.01.2022 It means your progesterone wasn't made in the correct amount, likely quite low, to hold off the endometrial lining for an embryo to implant... and when progesterone is low, its because you either ovulated poorly or not at all.

12.01.2022 The moment your STRESS > COPING, is exactly when you should be leaning on those around you for support and help. Not after, when you are drowning - but that exact time where you feel your stress levels are greater than your ability to cope.

11.01.2022 Snap them up ladies!

11.01.2022 My reason why If you are reading this and you struggle emotionally and physically then I was exactly like you. Every day after having my first daughter felt hard. When she woke overnight and, in the morning, I wanted to cry. I had no energy to get out of bed. ... I felt so flat, with no motivation to get anything done.I felt anxious, a lot. I worried about everything, I overthought everything. I couldnt understand, wasnt motherhood meant to be the best time of my life? Why did I feel like I didnt know myself, like this wasnt the body that I used to have! I used to have amazing energy levels, be so motivated and happy, I loved the way I used to feel. I went to the doctors THREE times in her first few months, and every time they dismissed me saying my blood tests were fine. Even once I cried in a doctors office, saying there has to be something wrong I feel so shit every single day. I wanted something to come back on the tests so we could fix it. I felt faint every time I stood up too quickly, I was out of breath after doing nothing at all, stressed about nothing, on edge I felt weak, so tired, headaches, getting sick often, bruises all over my legs, I would get the worst PMS.. Thats when I had had enough. Enough of feeling like shit, exhausted, run down, stressed, enough of hating how I felt. Thats when I took my health into my own hands. I now have a 4-year bachelors degree of naturopathy and I understand the way womens bodies work, back to front. I now know exactly why women go to doctors and come back with no answers, I now know what is wrong with the medical system. No one is playing any mind to nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, out of control stress hormones, lack of happy hormones, poor gut health, underactive thyroid and on the list goes on and on. BUT I AM! And I want to help you. I want to hear you, understand you, empower you. I want to give you your life back, your energy levels back Your mood Your normal periods Your libido A calm nervous system A knowledge of how to eat to feed your body in the best possible way And this is why I've created the 6 week postnatal online course to do all of this for you

11.01.2022 This is a hallmark of PCOS. Treating this insulin resistance is KEY and will not be done when your doctor says the only way to treat your PCOS is by going on the pill

10.01.2022 See here the drop in oestrogen coincides with a raise in progesterone... If we don't ovulate correctly, or at all, too early/too late, this progesterone balancing of our oestrogen plummet won't occur in the way in needs too... we NEED progesterone to be in a normal ratio to oestrogen otherwise we have all sorts of oestrogen dominance issues - PMS, mood swings, sore breasts, bloating, weight retention, and periods that are crap all round. We only make progesterone when we ar...e letting our bodies do their natural thing - NOT ON THE PILL! I go over all of this in more in my course, there's an entire week dedicated to hormones and balancing them out at home

08.01.2022 My eldest + my middle babes. Where one is defiant, the other complacent. Chalk and cheese. And often violent to each other, but lots of loving

08.01.2022 Tired? High sugar consumption inhibits the production of Orexin, which is a chemical in your brain that stimulates the feeling of being awake. The more sugar you eat, the more sleepy you will feel. The same research discovered that the consumption of protein helps to counteract this sleepiness, so if you consume more protein it will help you to stay awake.

08.01.2022 UPSET GUTS? EAT THIS // The more anxious we are, the quicker our gut works. It can be seriously uncomfortable - having butterflies in our stomach then sitting on the toilet most of the day or block us up so we can't go to the toilet at all. Have you noticed this yourself? Then further you may get reflux and bloating, and simply just feel discomfort after eating food! All because of high stress levels and anxiety, and how our brain and gut are... connected. For more comfortable digestion, try adding more papaya to your diet This is one of my go-to suggestions for my clients! Papaya (and kiwi fruit) contains natural digestive enzymes that take the pressure off your body, so you can break down your food better (and more easily absorb nutrients). Want more help with your guts? Send me a PM and lets talk about meal plans! See more

07.01.2022 Hands up who thinks your period is the main event of your cycle? Sorry, but wrong!! It's OVULATION which is the big show. Your entire cycle really does depend on what happens with ovulation. Irregular periods are ONLY because of ovulation problems. ... PMS? Usually because too high oestrogen without progesterone (made in ovulation) to balance it out. Spotting before period? Again, another ovulation problem... means your hormones didn't do their thing properly during ovulation therefore didn't keep the lining nice and plump until the day of your period. Really light period? Again, ovulation may not have occurred properly! I love working on hormones and I cover them in sooo much detail in my new 6 week ecourse... enrol yourself now via link in my bio or book a 1:1 consult with me

04.01.2022 Where's all my endometriosis ladies at? Women are chronically underdiagnosed. Oh, just take a tramadol, or its just PMS. NO, it's not just your normal PMS and it is not women's destiny to suffer from periods all their life. That is not a normal state of being.... So main medical treatment is to stop hormonal pathways from being able to act upon the lesions. But as we all know Im not a fan of the pill because its shutting down progesterone, ovulation, mood regulation. But as a last resort you might find the Mirena IUD can help cut down bleeding. And theres the flow on effects like your iron levels? Have they been checked? Maybe that tiredness youre feeling aint so normal? There's the inflammation. ENDO is in fact an autoimmune condition, an inflammatory condition. So its really important we look into anti-inflammatory treatments and also gauge how inflammatory your diet is. Dairy has to go! Turmeric actually has an impact on endo itself, so it reduces endometrial lesions. It stops enzyme secretion which causes rapid tissue growth and cell growth within endo lesions. NAC - There was a cohort study done on ovarian endometriomas that shows over 12 weeks. 600mg, 3 times a day, prevented the growth of cysts and reduced the size of those existing cysts. So, that has a marked impact on endo specifically, and it's also fantastic for depression, and obviously the liver and detoxification side of things, making glutathione. So, NAC is one of my favorite sort of supplements in the treatment of endo. PM me if you want some help with your endo See more

04.01.2022 .... and ovulation issues are my favourite

03.01.2022 Quickly search for the door, grab your shit and get outta there ladies!!! Find a health practitioner than can actually work on your hormones without use of the pill! * does not apply to women with serious endo - as pill can definitely help manage pain, growths and symptoms

03.01.2022 http:// WHY I DON'T RECOMMEND FAREX or CERELAC // I dont recommend Farex as a food at all to babies. There are so many whole-foods a baby can have instead, and heres why HIGHLY REFINED CARBOHYDRATE Being a white rice flour, a lot of it turns into glucose within seconds of being in bubs mouth (thanks to their salivary amylase), this has been found to hard-wire the babies taste preferences for sweets.... Remember the disgusting glucose test you have to do when you are pregnant? Well, Endocrinologist and Obesity Australia Chief Professor, John Funder, says: Starting a child off on a diet of rice cereal was like giving them an oral glucose tolerance test. That is because of what happens to your babys blood glucose levels and insulin levels after eating it! When the rice is processed in the factory, it is stripped of every single nutrient so they decide to add synthetic nutrients. However, these are much LESS absorbable than naturally occurring nutrients. CAN CAUSE DEFICIENCES If a bubba is loading up on rice cereal, they are going to want to have less breastmilk (or formula). This means they are swapping out nutrient rich breastmilk, for a verrrrry poor substitute Nature is perfect the way it is, if babies are meant to be fed breastmilk & breastmilk is naturally low in iron and even contains chelators that bind to iron to minimise free iron in the gut, perhaps babies sensitive GI tracts may be harmed by too much iron. Just give them real foods! (Unless they have a medical condition) LACK OF ENZYMES Pancreatic amylase which is required to fully break down grains (the rice cereal), is not produced until about the age of 10-12 months when the molar teeth are fully developed So, feeding them rice cereal means it wont be fully digested & can cause cramping, bloating, discomfort, constipation. These grains can wreak havoc on your babys little world of bacteria (essential in preventing allergies!), and stop the key nutrients from being absorbed. LACK OF NUTRIENTS Yes, its fortified with some iron. Great But, there are hundreds of other vitamins and minerals a baby needs which is would get from a diet of vegetables, good fats, me

03.01.2022 And cue anger, frustration, irritability, teary, moody, out of control emotions... even when something little happens to us like our child takes too long to put their shoes on NOT NORMAL, and not something you have to live with! It just means your nervous system needs to be sorted out.

03.01.2022 I'm so sick of this phrase "birth control regulates your cycle" or "birth control balances your hormones." If I ever here this I die a little inside Regulation implies that contraceptive drugs help use what you have and put it all back in a normal rhythm. What actually happens is the progestin steroid drugs in contraceptive drugs shut down your bodies natural cycle and put you in a state of chemically induced menopause. This is the reason it's not necessary to bleed while... taking contraceptive drugs - it's not menstruation and your body isn't cycling. I've used contraceptive drugs in the past. And it was shit. I'm done with the lack of explanation from medical providers

02.01.2022 If you have a health concern, something like anxiety, depression, not coping with stress, exhausted, gut problems, skin problems - consider this... It's not just the food you eat, it's not just your gut bacteria, it's not just your sleep, it's not just your thoughts, it's EVERYTHING. Want to get far with your health? Choose signing up to my 6 week ecourse which considers absolutely every aspect of your health for you https://www.thenatalnaturopath.com.au//postnatal-6-week-co

02.01.2022 Before you go to tuck into your next meal, have a think about this.. -the food is broken down by all the enzymes and juices in your stomach -the nutrients in the food will be absorb through your strong healthy gut lining -go into your blood stream... -travel up to the brain where they are the building blocks of happy hormones and stabilise our mood So for this to work perfectly we are assuming that your gut lining and gut health in general is up to scratch to the task! Every week we see more and more research coming out about the direct impact of nutrition and the bacteria in our gut on our brain chemistry. This is why we begin with gut healing in the first place and why it's I ask a lot of questions about someone's gut functioning in every appointment See more

02.01.2022 Have you ever had your SHBG checked but no one has ever explained what it does? Sex Hormone Binding Globulin is the little car that drives your sex hormones around in your blood. Because hormones like oestrogen & progesterone are fat based they need the car to drive them around otherwise it's like olive oil in water (the blood). When your SHBG levels are low, your body has more unbound sex hormones available for use. When your SHBG levels are high, your body has fewer free... sex hormones at its disposal. High = can be PCOS Low = can be low fibre intake See more

02.01.2022 Who can relate PMS is often caused by higher levels of oestrogen in comparison to our other hormones... So what causes this?... - high stress - being on the pill, and the few months after you've come off the pill - diet low in fibre - poorly functioning liver that cannot detoxify old hormones - having excess fat tissue - being exposed to xenoestrogens like plastics, heavy metals like cadmium (in cigarettes), smoking, certain chemicals, pesticides, parabens in virtually all cosmetic products But there are plenty we can do to get oestrogen levels back to normal, like strong herbal remedies, and lots of dietary advice I can offer. Tag your girlfriends who might get like this at certain times of the month See more

01.01.2022 How to treat the hormonal weight gain of PCOS and hormonal birth control 1) reverse insulin resistance 2) lower androgens (testosterone)... Stop eating dessert That means no desserts. No cakes. No fruit juice. No sweetened yogurt. No granola bars. No dried fruit. No dates. No agave. No honey. No natural fruit sugar healthy desserts. Supplement magnesium Magnesium deficiency may be a significant contributor to insulin resistance. Fortunately, supplementing magnesium has been shown to improve insulin resistance. Maintain a healthy circadian rhythm and sleep Circadian rhythm or body clock has a profound effect on glucose metabolism and whole-body insulin sensitivity. Some scientists go so far as to say that misalignment of circadian rhythm could be an important contributor to insulin resistance. Exercise Exercise improves insulin sensitivity in the muscles To lower androgens, promote ovulation so you can make estrogen and progesterone and consider using a natural anti-androgen supplement like zinc, spearmint tea, licorice & peony
