25.01.2022 Who has Candida issues or suspects they do? its a battle. Candida is opportunistic ... in other words, drop your guard for a bit too long and it overgrows again. It manifests in different ways in people and it commonly goes hand in hand with food intolerances. Similarly, it also causes bloating (some people dont get bloating). It also causes brain fog. When mine flares up thats the first thing, I 100% vague out. Its embarrassing and enough motivation to keep on t...op of it. Some women get recurring thrush but some dont get thrush at all. Some people get sinus or itchy throat, ears, armpits (thats the best ). Some people get bad breath. . -Ideally you need to know your triggers and get on top of a flare up ASAP. Mine are ... beer (), cider, kombucha, chocolate. - get on top of food intolerances and potential leaky GUT - take anti-fungals, anti-microbials and support gastric function Reach out if if you need some help with this . #candidaprotocol #gastricfunction #digestivefunction #nutritionalmedicine #holistichealth #leakygut

24.01.2022 Second rant for the day Research published in mainstream media reporting Vitamin D would be beneficial to protect against COVID-19 is finally giving light to the power of NUTRITIONAL MEDICINE.FINALLY. This has been an incredibly frustrating time for Natural Health Practitioners who have been dismayed but 100% not surprised at the government & so called world health officials lack of a holistic approach to tackling this virus and the health of our communities. VITAM...IN D is a well known nutrient for immune system support and is a tool we use ALL the time for our clients with things like auto-immune disorders for powerful results. However during this time us Practitioners have also been governed NOT TO say that X,Y,Z nutrient/vitamin will help protect against COVID! And conversely, the fear of GOD has been put in everyone that we cant do ANYTHING to help ourselves or loved ones except to stay home and wait until a vaccine is found. How about if we had of dosed up our aged care residents with Vitamin D as soon as the outbreaks occurred. Vitamin D does not have side effects, this could have been a preventative measure taken from the start and SAVED LIVES!!!! The ideal outcome would that holistic health care becomes the normal because our medical system is SO blinkered. Anyone else agree!? 2 posts in one day, thanks for the rant

24.01.2022 This is me Iso life un-intentionally & casually also turned into no social media life for me, 5 weeks, just saying... and just because i wanted to isolate myself some more. haha. Well, Im out of that phase, hi Im back. Thank god I dont have to talk to myself anymore! . . Ok before you get concerned, dont worry, this is not a morbid post. Business has been as usual and i have actually had the most incredible consults with my clients since COVID, I will be sure to share... some testimonials & stories. I am missing my dear @ploverwellbeing who still have their doors closed but online consults I have always done and enjoy the feeling of being at home.. . . #nutritionconsultants #foodintolerances #guthealth #leakygutprotocol #candidaprotocol #microbiomehealth #nutritionalmedicine #morningtonpeninsula See more

23.01.2022 Anyone else learning so much right now? Anyone else had to push through the uncomfortable and shame feeling of reading a post and thinking oh wow, i think I have said something similar to that before. i never knew that was racist. . Its really hard to take that on because it challenges who you think you are as a person and your values. But one post i read said if you are a white person and you get called out on something or you read something that challenges a way ...you have behaved in the past or what you have said in the past, cop it on the chin, dust yourself off and learn from it. Shifting from a non racist into an anti-racist is priority for the privileged white. I really love this account if you are not already following @theconsciouskid . Pls comment with any other accounts youre learning from . . #blacklivesmatter #evolving See more

23.01.2022 We/our bodies are host to bacteria, viruses, parasites. Theres more of them plus their DNA than actual human cells Read that again. . Often when health conditions present we dont think to look at our microbes. But youll find with many common health issues, dysbiosis is playing a role. dysbiosis is the imbalance of pathogenic vs beneficial microbes. In fact some pathogenic microbes can be existing in our bodies with no trouble.... until they overgrow. Like Candida. .... Examples of dysbiosis would be : skin - cellulitis (staph and streptococcus are present) mouth - oral thrush (candida is present) colon - a parasite can be present upsetting Bowel movements etc vagina - gardenerella vaginalis is present breast milk - mastitis and breast pain is usually a staph overgrowth Sores in the nasal cavity - could be a staph overgrowth. . . Addressing dysbiosis at the site of the irritation with probiotics or other anti-fungal, anti-bacterial ingredients can be an incredible and effective treatment protocol before heading down the antibiotic path which can exacerbate dysbiosis. You wont believe where u can put a probiotic . . Seek professional advice. . #probiotics #dysbiosis #guthealth #microbiomehealth #morningtonpeninsulanutritionist #foodintolerances #leakygut #leakyguthealing See more

22.01.2022 Last year i was sitting at the beach in Noosa at 6am drinking a coffee listening to someone playing a harp (ok Im not making this up) and next minute I met the lovely Cate! Its funny how you make friends instantly sometimes Earlier this year I did her online course which came at the perfect time for me as restrictions had just been implemented and it was so good to have some zoom based touch points and group mediations to do to keep me in a good head space. Cate Young is running the course again in Sept ... jump on board

22.01.2022 4. Say something when you hear someone say inappropriate things about Aboriginal people If you hear someone say something racist, reinforcing stereotypes or being dismissive about Aboriginal people and culture say something. Not saying something means condoning their attitudes, making you as bad as them. Example: Youre at a BBQ and one of your friends makes an 'Aboriginal joke'. Pull them up on it. Its not always easy to be confrontational, but if youre a true ally, you will push past that uncomfortable feeling.

21.01.2022 Pancakes with my little lady this morning. So I used a gluten free pre mix by Organ which contains a variety of gluten free flour and you just need to add egg and milk. Pretty simple! I am not saying this is the most healthy option (!!) but it works for me sometimes and have you ever tried to make GF pancakes with your own flour combo? Nightmare Mine are never that great and for the mess...Im going to want a guarantee theyre going to be topped with homemade apple, pear and prune purée and blueberry coconut yogurt and berries.

19.01.2022 Hi, I wanted to talk about being a Nutritionist for a minute. Shed some light on this fascinating topic as I am in my boss lady pose. Firstly, its such an innovative space to be in, I personally love that. Its also thrilling when you help someone achieve their goals or put the pieces of the puzzle together when it comes to their health. But its also a really intense career! Keeping on top of research, the latest supplements, drugs and potential interactions etc. As well... as blood chemistry and all the other lab tests that are being discovered & used to identify toxins, pathogens etc, their pros and cons and how to interpret such results. Really, its a rabbit warren on any topic you start to investigate. You have to be a nerd at heart Also, working with people is probably what brought us all to this career path. But wow, everyones cellular makeup, genetic DNA, their microbiome profile as well as their history of stress and trauma which ALL influences an individuals health and capacity to heal..it is FULL ON! We (I think i can speak for a majority of us) like the service element, in fact, i would think most of us are empaths so we really invest in our clients and are genuinely disappointed when we dont get the outcome we want leading us to thinking, researching, pondering our clients outside of the consult, figuring out the next way forward. I bet your lawyers dont do that Lastly, so much of the time we are dealing with chronic health issues which are the manifestation of a SICK health care model So shout out to all the other praccies out there putting their heart into their work and helping people on their health journey

17.01.2022 Everything is connected. Our 2020 lives are on high frequency and our bodies are keeping score (and 99% of the time, our bodies win) Self care is an annoying word. Help me, is there another word out there!? If you dont consider your mental/emotional/environmental health when it comes to how your physical body is, you have your blinkers on. ... Self care is about reducing exposures to toxins and giving ourselves a few minutes (now that is a bare minimum!) every day to not be in stress response. WOMEN are more likely to suffer thyroid issues and guess what are the main drivers.. CORTISOL OVERPRODUCTION (stress hormones) & ENVIRONMENTAL TOXINS. Friends, we are responsible for self care it is not some kind of fluffy luxury. I think we know the obvious self care stuff but other things you may not have thought of that are an investment to your health are: - getting a life coach - taking a course you are interested in - therapy.however that may look for you - listening to podcasts (whether its for fun or for learning) - freeing yourself from toxic relationships - learning how to improve your relationship with money - reminiscing with a friend/s (via zoom if youre in Vic!) - investing in a water filter so you have clean water at home - improving the air quality in your home - dealing with mould/toxin issues you may be exposed to - dealing with food intolerances - getting your skin moles checked - getting a papsmear & breast health check - switching over your perfumes to chemical free options - switching over your household products to natural ones to minimise exposures to chemicals I invite you to consider what small changes you can do and Implement into your life daily to bring down that high frequency and toxin exposure For me > Ive booked in for skin check, Im currently engaged in coaching and therapy when I forget to invest in the big picture, everything starts getting rusty.

16.01.2022 Thought Id do a little update on whos behind my page for those who dont know me or think you do ! A few things you might not know about me: . - Before i worked as a nutritionist i worked in TV. I was the assistant editor for blue heelers and editor for the ABC 7pm news - I have lived and worked overseas in many countries NZ, Canada, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica and Brazil - I taught myself to surf in my 20s even though I was terrified of sharks and never swam past my wa...ist in the ocean. Ive gotten over that fear (ok not entirely) but I still cant open my eyes under water -I finished my Nutrition degree before Instagram was invented - I firmly believe that being healthy isnt just about what you eat, how much you exercise and what u weigh. Self worth, purpose, financial security & equality (in relationships and within community) is what make us . If even one of these is suffering, our health declines. When these arent lining up, be kind and invest in yourself. . Nice to have you following, feel free to DM me :) . #nutritionist #morningtonpeninsula #aboutme #holisiticnutrition #wellnessthatworks #huthealth #foodintolerancetesting #candidaprotocol #sibo #guthealthpractitoner See more

15.01.2022 In one post I could never emphasise the importance of supporting our hydrochloric acid production (our stomach acid) and the flow on effect of conditions it causes when we have reduced production. Think of our digestive system as one big long river system, and our HCl is one of the first things that starts the process of digestion & detox. It also prevents bacterial overgrowth. I see it ALL the time in clinic, the manifestations having low stomach acid results in..... Why would we have low stomach acid? - stress (too much time in fight or flight, not enough sleep, the list does go on) - eating too quickly and on the run - long term use of medications - smoking - alcohol consumption - aging - nutrient deficiencies (especially zinc). If you have digestive issues, your HCL is a good place to start for getting back to wellness . . #nutritionalmedicine #digestivehealth #guthealthmatters #hcl #foodintolerances #foodsensitivities #bacterialovergrowth #siboprotocol #candidaovergrowth #histamineintolerance

14.01.2022 So you know how 2020 is a bit of ? Has it put a bit of fire in your belly to tap into that activism part in you? Certainly for me, I feel frustrated at how the world is right now but then I think what can I do about it? I will share posts and thoughts, make donations, sign petitions, go to fundraisers etc etc. But it feels bit adhoc. Also, i dont really know what I am supporting after all its not like all organisations are actually ethical sadly. And whats ...if my money/actions actually makes a situation worse or fuels an industry (ie: I spent time at an orphanage in Nepal in 2012, playing with the kids. little did i know that MOST orphanages are a thriving industry built on taking kids from their villages to pose as orphans so us white people get to feel good while we are on holidays). So this is where i introduce you to one of my oldest friends @_leighmathews Leigh not only co-founded @rethinkorphanages & has worked for the UN in child protection but now runs her own consulting/coaching company designed to build social & corporate responsibility into the structure of your business. I am currently working with Leigh around this personally, i will keep you posted on this one! So the good news is this! She is running a short course early Sept for any business owners out there (big or small) who want to give back. If you want to build philanthropy into your business but dont know exactly how or you want to be ensured that your cause is ethical and not actually causing harm, then I highly recommend joining this course. Some points: - you dont have to choose to either make money or be a charitable organisationyou CAN make money and DO GOOD at the same time - some organisations/charities are not actually ethical sadly. So you really need to get expert advice on organisations before supporting them through your business - carefully selecting a cause that aligns with your business and personal values is extremely rewarding >>> This course is hands-on and practical . You will be well on your way to be able to say that your business is having a positive impact on people an the planet. Find out more at @_leighmathews

13.01.2022 So good because Nexium is not a long term medication! Nexium was the most prescribed med last year in Australia and taken ongoing disrupts the entire digestive system. Suppressing stomach acid is a band aid approach to dealing with heartburn Think of your digestive system as a river, if we mess with whats happening at the top end, the system will collapse downstream somewhere along the way. A bit like Australias river systems (). . . #digestivesystem #stomachacid #foodintolerances #holisticapproach #nutritionalmedicine #reflux #heartburn #gutpractitioner

13.01.2022 Hi, wow its been a big couple of weeks. And I have had to take my own advice as i realised i was feeling the brink of overwhelm/burn out.Seems a bit counter-intuitive to feel burnt out when we are in Stage 4 and bound to our homes, but it shows you cant underestimate the power of emotions & not having your people around you on your health. Heres how i have/am turning my week around; Said no/come up with an alternative option to something that was causing me stress... With the warmer weather, brought back in my morning juice. Currently, watermelon, beetroot, collagen, greens & water Had a weekend of going to bed at 9pm Put down some things i have been working on, accepted i needed brain rest time AND the big one, have chosen to not beat myself up over it and been on to rest. Who can relate to this!? Left my computer charger where i was working on Friday, realised when i got home.DID NOT turn around and go and pick it up and instead took it as a sign from the universe to be off screens for the weekend - Realised holy moly im spinning on masculine energy and i need some feminine energy in the mix! Single Mumming, you are responsible for everything in the house and finances etc. You can get yourself into so much doing and not enough being. Total recipe for burnout Mixed myself up a flower essence remedy that uses Pink Fountain Triggerplant which is all about The Return of the Vital Force Such am effective way to help with the emotional stuff. If you have any questions about flower essence remedies for burn out, comment below or send me a DM > will post remedies :)

10.01.2022 wow, so I got loads of DMs from my last post re: breathing through the mouth . Other common signs are: - gagging - licking lips excessively - grinding teeth - wetting bed... - enlarged adenoids/tonsils - restless sleep . I have added two pictures to show you what i meant about nose breathing effecting physical appearance. This is when its been quite significant from childhood. .. So what do if you or your children are mouth breathers? . source out a practitioner working as an orofacial myofunctional therapist (thats a mouthful, excuse the pun). This is for anyone! From infancy through to adulthood. If you have have a baby with tongue tie or trouble latching on the breast, this is also for you. Practitioners specialising in this area can be, chiros, osteos, airway focused dentists. They may treat or refer to ENT depending on the presentation. There may be more, does anyone know? My colleague @bloominginadelaide knows more about this! Follow her on Facebook also for loads of info. Investigate food intolerances. Food intolerances can cause sinus issues forcing a person to breathe through their mouth. Other food intolerance signs are excess mucus, blood noses, itchy-ness, hayfever, rashes, skin issue, digestive discomfort including constipation and diarrhoea. These are my main tips and not exhaustive, happy for anyones input below. I have also added the link to the TED talk i referred to in my last post Shut your Mouth and Change Your Life in my bio. People, children, babies breathing through their mouths are in a stress response and health complications follow including asthma. If I see a man adult client in my clinic who snores, visibly is breathing through their mouth, suffers asthma or sinus, I use lifestyle practices to help them learn to shut their mouth and have them see an OM practitioner also. I hope this helps . . #breathwork #nosebreathing #holistichealthpractioners #wellnessadvocate #nutritionalmedicine #holisticnutritionist #morningtonpeninsula #nervoussystemregulation #nervoussystemhealth #foodintolerances #sinusrelief

08.01.2022 Companies to self determine whether chemicals in their products are a risk to humans. Excellent. With increasing auto immune diseases, cancers and now pandemics to overcome, we are lowering our chances of living healthy lives as we ere exposed to toxins in our every day products.

05.01.2022 Shut Your Mouth. This has been coming up a lot for me and my clients lately, which means I must have to share. MOUTH BREATHING. Does breathing through your mouth effect your health? YES YES and more YES. Read on. . . (Beautiful Art by @orla_bird ) We are designed to breathe through our nose. Our nose has 30 functions including sterilising the air we inhale and enhancing O2 taken up by the blood. Breathing through our nose opens up the airways and keeps us in a state of ...calm. Stress makes us sick, we know that. Research has shown 50% of children are breathing though their mouth! Patrick McKeown is the guru behind this and has a great TedTalk on it Shut your Mouth and Change Your Life. I highly recommend getting into his stuff if you or your children are mouth breathers (including asthma sufferers). He says: If you go around with your mouth open in the day, you most likely have your mouth open through night and you are not sleeping well. This will cause you to wake up feeling exhausted. Who relates to this?? SO MANY of my clients walking around in a fog in the mornings. Patrick also says all mouth breathers grow up with crooked teeth and GET thishow you breathe as a child determines how you look as an adult. Common physical traits of a person who has chronically breathed through their mouth are: - tired eyes - crooked teeth - lower jaw set back - narrow face - crooked nose - lack of definition of cheekbones What we need to strive for are to : - breathe through the nose - breathe slow - breathe using diaphragm - breathe less the perfect person breathes as if they do not breathe. . . #stressrelief #breathwork #breathworkhealing #holistichealthcare #naturalmedicine #breathe
