21.01.2022 The Osteo ABC's D is for : Dry Needling Dry needling obviously isn't an injury, it's a treatment type. We thought we'd mix things up and talk about some of the treatment techniques we commonly use as well. ... It is the use of acupuncture type needles placed into sore or tight muscles in order to decrease tightness/soreness therefore helping relieve your symptoms. It isn't a stand alone treatment and therefore isn't always used but can be quite the handy adjunct to help round out an Osteopathic treatment. Never tried it before? Ask about it at the start of your next treatment and we can go through if it's a technique we could use as a part of your session. Who know's, it may provide you with some good symptomatic relief and help with recovery See more

12.01.2022 Self-care Saturdays Meditation. For those of you who don't know, head Osteo Jamey meditates on the daily (well most days anyway) and commonly recommends to patients that they try it as a part of their rehabilitation. ... Meditation has many potential benefits including improved concentration, decrease in depression/anxiety and decreasing stress. So how is it not worth a try? For me personally, I find it helps decrease the thoughts swirling in my head and increases my concentration. Any day that involves meditation I find to be not only more productive but also I generally have an improved mood. There are many ways to meditate. I found it easiest to start with a meditation timer (something like headspace, calm and smiling minds) and is how I recommend beginners start. From there you can progress into the wide world of differing styles of meditation and pick which one works best for you! If you'd like to be less stressed/anxious and have an improved mood, try meditation. Who knows, it may be just what you need #strength #rehabilitation #prehabilitation #exercise #movement #recovery #yoga #osteopathy #prevention #injury #iso #theosteojoint #osteo #running #training #rehab #osteopath #stretching #isorun #westmelbourne #kensington #melbourne #northmelbourne #runclub #run #runprogram #isorunning #isofitness

07.01.2022 Have you been struggling to find motivation this year to reach new goals? Me too. It’s been a tough year mentally on us all but now with Melbourne re-opening (woo go us) and life starting to get some normality back, set yourself those goals to work towards again. Gyms are open, pools are open and our amazing state has so many running and bike tracks available it would be rude not to get back out there.... 07.01.2022 The Osteo ABC's B is for : Bunions Bunions are described as a bony lump on the outside of your big toe joint which results from the big toe moving toward the second toe. This in turn results in joint pain. ... They are commonly caused by excessive foot stress, ill fitting shoes and joint abnormality. However it is said that there is a hereditary link. Bunions can be a significant issue that causes people to change the way they walk, avoid walking/running all together and be the cause of significant foot pain (Osteopath Jamey is all too familiar with the pain these cause). They are best to get assessed as soon as possible as there are many ways to help decrease your symptoms and stop them from getting worse. Treatment's commonly involve joint manipulation/articulation combined with some massage to help with decreasing joint pain. We often start rehabilitation by implementing exercises to help decrease big toe pain, refer to a podiatrist for potential fitting of shoe inserts and introduce a progression plan when applicable. If bunions or other foot pain is slowing you down, book in now and lets sort them out as quickly as possible See more

04.01.2022 Self-care Saturdays Exercise + sunshine = Happy Jamey I love getting active, particularly going for a run in the early morning sunshine. Exercise alone has obvious physical and mental health benefits. However getting outside to exercise doubles the dose in my opinion. ... Getting outside in nature (anywhere with trees is fine) and going for a short walk to break up periods of work is proven to improve productivity. So here is my suggestion, take that hour a day you get out of your house and put it to good use. Do some exercise outside. That can mean going for a run, ride, doing an exercise class outside or a super chilled out walk. Do whichever feels right for you on that particular day. If the sun is shinning and you've used that hour already, get into your backyard/frontyard/balcony, soak up the rays and breathe that fresh air. It will not only improve productivity but can also improve mental health, wellbeing and mood. Want more information on my self-care routines?
