21.01.2022 The Overland - A Social History, 190 pages, hard cover, colour throughout, extensively illustrated, index and references. What is a Social History? It is how one train changed the lives of the people and responded to the needs of the populations, particularly the people of Victoria and South Australia. It was a significant catalyst in the Federation of the Australian colonies. It has connections to football, the Temperance movement and the Sabbatarian movement. It reflects the human connection to the railway, humour and poetry. This next book by John Wilson is due to be released in the coming month and can be ordered from the National Railway Museum or from www.sarlinesbooks.com.au

This car a roomette car named Allambi preformed a test run to Gawler and return. This carriage is now part of the National Railway Museum at Port Adelaide and is well worth the look.

04.01.2022 Who remembers the motifs that adorned the ladies powder room and men’s restroom doors? They added a bit of class to the first and economy sitting carriages. At some stage the pipe was removed maybe when smoking was banned on the train.
04.01.2022 If anyone would like to see the Serviceton Summit that took place last week here is the link. The Overland Museum would ideal love to see the train continue and are happy to support any attempt to save our oldest interstate train.
