21.01.2022 The bleak days of May. One of the excellent pieces of cartoon art by Simon Letch regularly published by the SMH. From 6 May 2020. This cartoon resonated with us. Mainly as it shows the interaction of musicians, artists, baristas, chefs, front of house staff, housekeeping, ringmaster and housekeeping, and cruise crew all in the one boat/image. Graphically portraying the interaction of Hospitality and Live Music (albeit in an employment queue). How things have changed. Certainl...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Marrah Bar & Restaurant presents: NICK NORTON Duo feat NICK SOUTHCOTT Tonight... SAT NOV 7th 7pm Coogee Bay Hotel Nick Norton https://www.instagram.com/marrahcoogee/ Contact the venue for further details. Help Support and Keep Live Music Covid Safe. NICK NORTON One of Sydney’s most versatile musicians and a master of many instruments. Predominantly a guitar player with a focus in jazz funk stylings with a penchant for mixing up arrangements from various genres of music. Not uncommon to hear Bill Withers delivered in a Herbie Hancock style and many other similar variations of jazz poured into soul, put through a funk grinder, and served chilled over improvised layers of contemporary jazz styles. Every performance is different but audiences can expect to hear homage to greats like Baker, Rollins, Davis, Benson, Washington and others. NICK SOUTHCOTT is one of the most skilled and versatile musicians on the Sydney scene today greatly in demand across the jazz, latin, and funk/soul fields. His rare blend of groove and swing, complemented by a love of latin music, has led him to develop a unique sound that sits comfortably backing a solo vocalist, swinging hard in a trio, or working with an 18 piece Big Band. Nick is a past winner of the Musicoz awards and has worked with the likes of Emma Pask, John Morrison’s Swing City, Club Havana, Latin big band Mucho Mambo, (with James Morrison and Monica Trapaga) and toured the north of Australia for Musica Viva. Nick has studied with some of the greats of Australian jazz including Judy Bailey, Mike Nock, Paul MacNamara and the late great Roger Frampton, and classical piano with Elisabeth Green and Ransford Elsley.

06.01.2022 NSW Premier - as quoted by SMH today ... "Unless some major unexpected event occurs, we will be announcing further easing of restrictions, especially in light of the festive season and especially given how well NSW has been doing with community transmission," the Premier told reporters on Monday morning. Health Minister Brad Hazzard suggested the announcement could be made on Wednesday.... The Premier has previously flagged the next steps will be increasing the number of people allowed in a home and moving towards a two-square-metre rule at indoor venues, but she said on Monday she was still consulting health advice. https://www.smh.com.au//nsw-reaches-28-days-without-myster (Peak Agency Comment) We expect that an easing to 2SQM indoors would have an impact for many forms of live music if it also applies to licensed premises. Hopefully we might hear something on this soon.
