25.01.2022 Indi, the adorable 15 month old cavoodle Indi came to see us 4 months after a right femoral head osteotomy @clyde_veterinary Femoral head osteotomy (FHO), also know as femoral head and neck excision (FHNE) is a procedure where they remove the top of the femur (thigh bone) so there is no longer a hip joint. It is commonly used in smaller dogs with hip dislocation, hip dysplasia or osteoarthritis to relieve pain. ... Indi came to see us as her owner was concerned she had muscle wastage and reduced range of motion in her leg. We have provided her with a home exercise program, massage and recommended hydrotherapy in the underwater treadmill. It can take time to recovery from this procedure but a target physiotherapy program can help improve their recovery.

23.01.2022 It has been just over a year since I saw my first patient as 'The Pet Physio' This year has been a crazy ride for so many different reasons but had reminded me how much I love working with animals. It is such a growing industry and many people aren't aware of the benefits of physiotherapy, hydrotherapy, laser and acupuncture can have for their dog. Our philosophy is to educate owners to ensure their dogs live happy, health and long lives. ... Sometimes you need to stop and reflect on the achievements you have made. Since starting The Pet Physio, I helped 300 pets across Aquapaws, Advanced Vet Care, home visits and even Zoom/online consults. It has been so rewarding helping owners manage their pets and ensuring that they get back to their best lives possible!

Asking the question is the first step and this year, we are more likely to hear 'No I am not' so head over to @ruokday to understand how you can help if people are struggling For those with dogs in their lives I'm sure we can all agree the amazing benefit they bring to our mental health so make sure you give them an extra treat and cuddle today

22.01.2022 Merry Christmas from the Aquapaws team!

21.01.2022 Meet Ralph, the adorable 4 month old Groodle Ralph came to us @aquapawsrehabilitation after he had a tibial fracture which required surgery to repair it with a plate. Ralph’s Mum was concerned that he wasn’t improving as well as she would like. We have provided Ralph with a home exercise program to help build up muscle on his operated leg. ... Tibia is the main bone in the lower part of the leg. Humans and doggos have similar names for the bones in their bodies. We recommended getting on top of any issues following surgery as quickly as possible. It is also important for us to refer back to veterinarian if the dog is not improving despite rehabilitation. @ Aquapaws Canine Rehabilitation and Fitness Centre See more

19.01.2022 Important information for our Aquapaws clients: At this stage, we will still be consulting throughout the Stage 3 lockdown but with extra precautions. It is important that everyone remains safe during this time and we want to continue to be able to support rehabilitation during this time. Please read below for more details.

18.01.2022 Any massage therapists looking for work!

17.01.2022 September is Pet Pain Awareness Month Dogs and cats are very good at hiding their pain and this makes it hard for owners recognise when their dog is in pain. Therefore, it is important for owners to watch for subtle signs of discomfort. This provides a list of the subtle signs pets may display when they are in pain, other signs include:... - Limping or lameness - especially if longer than 1-2 days - Yelping or whimpering - Reluctance to play or not wanting to go for regular walk - Unexpected reactions when touched - Increased panting Physiotherapy is a great way to help understand and manage your dog's pain - whether it is changes to exercise levels, massage, heat therapy and many more options. So keep an eye on your pets and get in touch if you have any concerns about them.

13.01.2022 Let's talk about masks For everyone in Melbourne and Mitchell shire - we are all getting used to the new normal of wearing masks in public. However, for masks to be really successful it is important to understand a few points: Wash your hands before touching your mask and before and after removing mask... Avoid touching your mask when wearing it. If you do, wash your hands immediately (or use hands sanitiser) If you are using a reusable mask, ensure that you store it in a clean plastic bag. Remember there can be germs on your mask so don't leave it on your kitchen bench. Wash your reusable mask at least one per day or more often if damp or dirty. Ensure it is dry before using again. If using disposable/surgical masks then make sure you discard them after each use. Remember your mask can spread germs if you do not use it appropriately We are now required to wear masks for all consults and we are unable to see clients who are refusing to wear a mask. This is to ensure safety for ourselves and our clients. @ Aquapaws Canine Rehabilitation and Fitness Centre

12.01.2022 Meet Jessie, the 1.5 year old Border Collie Pup Jessie came to us @aquapawsrehabilitation following surgery for bilateral OCD lesions in her shoulders and they found hip dysplasia Jessie is going really well in her front limbs but we noticed that her hip was giving her trouble. So we provided hands on massage and her pawrents with exercises to help strengthen those back legs.... Hip dysplasia is a common condition in dogs. It is caused by abnormal growth or development in the hip joint. Quite often it is missed when the dog is young and only picked up older when they have developed arthritis. In certain cases surgery is recommended but we find many cases can be managed well with physiotherapy. Shoulder OCD means Osteochondritis dissecans and occurs when cartilage is separated from the bone. It can cause lameness/limping in the dog an usually requires surgery to fix See more

11.01.2022 Looking forward to a busy day at Aquapaws The gorgeous Roxy, 10 year old German Shepherd with hind limb weakness.

09.01.2022 Tongues out Tuesday : Clyde, the gorgeous 1.5 year-old German short haired pointer who was seen after being diagnosed with elbow dysplasia.

08.01.2022 Loved seeing the gorgeous Loki, the Ridgeback, before Christmas We are having a brief break over the holiday period but will be back to home visits next week and at Aquapaws next Friday 8th of January (although it's already fully booked!) We hope everyone is enjoying the holiday period but remember not to over feed or exercise your dog's during this period!

08.01.2022 Happy Sunday everyone Hope everyone is enjoying this lovely day Sam, the 11 year old Samoyed, enjoying his first hydrotherapy session @aquapawsrehabilitation after his initial physiotherapy appointment to help manage his mobility issues as he ages

07.01.2022 It was so great to meet James on Friday who came in for his first physiotherapy appointment. James is a 1 year old Pug (Happy birthday for tomorrow!) and is under the care of Pug Rescue. James had a spinal deformity from a young age which required surgery at Southpaws Specialty Surgery for Animals. At first he improved but then had a set back and further surgery is not an option. James will require medications to maximise his mobility.... We did an assessment on James and discovered that he has lost muscle especially in his hind legs and his knee caps were coming in and out. We gave him a massage, have provided him with a home exercise program and recommended trialling hydrotherapy to see if this can improve his mobility. See below for some of the session we had with him

05.01.2022 Great information for any dogs that have lost their 'deep pain' before or after spinal surgery Meet Arthur is a 2 year old French Bulldog X Pug (he has been on our Facebook page in his new wheels from Aquapaws Canine Rehabilitation and Fitness Centre). He had spinal surgery Southpaws Specialty Surgery for Animals in February. His parents got him in for surgery really quickly but unfortunately he lost his 'deep pain' following surgery. This means he was unable to... walk or move his back legs when he first saw us. He required a catheter to help urination. Please swipe across to see how Arthur is walking now (grass is most recent). Arthur has continued to improve despite his poor prognosis initially. We are so proud of him and his determination shows how dogs can come when they have lost their deep pain. Arthur has had regular physiotherapy and hydrotherapy in the underwater treadmill at Aquapaws to get him back on his feet. Deep pain is an indicator for recovery post spinal surgery. Dogs who have lost their deep pain will have a longer recovery time but they can get back to walking with regular physio and hydro and of course, dedicated owners. See more

05.01.2022 Happy World Physiotherapy Day This is a day to recognise the importance that Physiotherapists contribute to society and allowing people and animals to remain mobile, well and independent I am always grateful for the impact we are able to have on improving quality of life in both humans and dogs ... In such a growing industry, it is a great time to highlight the knowledge and expertise that physiotherapists bring to ensuring your pet recovers well following injury, surgery or later in life. All physiotherapists have at least 4 years of university training plus extra training to specialise in treating animals which is 2 - 3 more years of study. So if you see a qualified physiotherapist you know you are in good hands

04.01.2022 Meet the Boisterous Bohdi, a 14 month old Staghound x Bull Arab Don't let those adorable eyes deceive you, he is an energetic boy Bohdi has had Patella (for luxation) and Elbow surgery (for elbow dysplasia) @southpawsvet... Patella is the dog's knee cap. Luxation occurs when it moves in and out of the groove in the knee, side to side. It is common in little dogs and usually moves towards the inside of the leg (medially) but in Bodhi's case it has moved to the outside (laterally). In mild cases, it can be treated conservatively but many cases need surgery. Bohdi has had a lot happening in his short life but his owner is very dedicated to his recovery. As part of his physiotherapy, we provide Bohdi with massage and joint mobilisations. We have given his owner a home exercise program to complete regularly. He comes for regular hydrotherapy in the underwater treadmill @aquapawsrehabilitation, which really helps with his recovery. @ Aquapaws Canine Rehabilitation and Fitness Centre See more

03.01.2022 Sorry for the delay in posting a stage 4 update: The Pet Physio and @aquapawsrehabilitation are still here for you and your pets during Stage 4 lockdown! We have had more clarification on what we can and can not provide. Routine services are NOT permitted. Care must only be provided if the absence of, or delay of this care, would result in a significant change/deterioration in the patient/client’s functional independence necessitating escalation of care. These dir...ectives are about protecting the public, protecting health workers and saving lives Cases such as post surgical, end of life stages and degenerative conditions will continue to be treated. However, if the appointment is not urgent or time sensitive we recommend waiting until restrictions have eased to come see us. You are allowed to travel here even if you are outside the 5kms zone. Aquapaws will issue you with an Appointment Confirmation and Travel Certificate for your appointment. This certainly is a challenging time for everyone. If you are unsure of anything, please call Aquapaws on 03 59 77 88 41. Stay safe everyone! : The gorgeous Annabelle
