07.05.2022 WILD MUSHROOMS THEY CAN BE POISONOUS The wet weather in NSW has resulted in wild mushrooms popping up everywhere. The NSW Poisons Centre has seen a recent spi...ke in both the number of calls and subsequent hospital presentations related to people eating wild mushrooms. Many of these calls were from people who had foraged for mushrooms. Australia is home to many poisonous wild mushrooms - some like the Death Cap mushroom can lead to organ damage and death if ingested. Many poisonous mushrooms in Australia look similar to edible wild mushrooms found in Europe or Asia. Cooking or boiling poisonous mushrooms does NOT make them safe to eat. A mistake could be deadly and is simply NOT worth the risk. Stay safe and only eat store-bought mushrooms. To prevent children ingesting wild mushrooms check your garden or playground areas and remove and dispose of any mushrooms which have appeared. Anyone who has been exposed to wild mushrooms should call the Poisons Centre on 131126 for further advice. #poisonsinfo #preventpoison #mushrooms #wildmushrooms #keepkidssafe #deathcap #deathcapmushroom #mushroomforaging .

23.01.2022 #PUBLICHEALTHALERT: NSW Health have advised the discovery of COVID-19 virus fragments in sewage at a treatment plant in Glenfield has prompted renewed calls for... residents to get tested. The virus fragments were detected through NSW’s ongoing sewage surveillance program. Detection of the virus in sewage samples could reflect the presence of known cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in recent weeks in the area served by this sewage treatment plant. However, NSW Health is concerned there could be other active cases in the local community in people who have not been tested and who might incorrectly assume their symptoms are just a cold. The area served by the treatment plant includes the suburbs of Airds, Ambarvale, Appin, Bardia, Blair Athol, Blairmount, Bow Bowing, Bradbury, Campbelltown, Casula, Claymore, Eagle Vale, Englorie Park, Eschol Park, Glen Alpine, Glenfield, Ingleburn, Kearns, Leumeah, Macquarie Fields, Macquarie Links, Menangle Park, Minto, Raby, Rosemeadow, Ruse, St Andrews, St Helens Park, Varroville and Woodbine. People in these areas must be aware of any symptoms of illness, and immediately isolate and get tested should even the mildest of symptoms appear that might appear to be just be a cold. Symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat, cough, tiredness, fever or other symptoms could be COVID-19. After testing, you must remain in isolation until a negative result is received. The only way to find new cases and prevent further transmission is to increase testing. There are more than 300 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW. To find your nearest clinic visit https://www.nsw.gov.au//how-to-protect-yourself-an/clinics or contact your GP. Sewage testing for genetic material of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, started in July, adding another tool in the fight against the global pandemic. There is no evidence COVID-19 is transmitted via wastewater systems.

10.01.2022 Fussy eating is a challenge many parents of toddlers and pre-schoolers face. So, we’ve launched an animated music video to help families with strategies for fus...s-free mealtimes. Dinnertime with Isla also stars children from Kidzville Early Learning Centre at Marrickville. Amy Bonnefin and her colleagues at the District’s Health Promotion Unit are behind the development of the video. We hope the video will help parents to foster positive mealtime environments, children to develop positive eating behaviours and build a healthy relationship with food. The video is the latest addition to a suite of resources in English, and four other languages, aimed at helping parents deal with fussy eating. To learn more about Dinnertime with Isla and fuss-free mealtime strategies contact the team at the Healthy Children Initiative via [email protected] See more

10.01.2022 CHOKING PREVENTION One important thing you can do to reduce the risk of your little one choking is to avoid giving them circular foods that may easily block t...heir airway. Cut up finger foods lengthways, not only are they easier for babies to grip with their palmar grasp, but they are a much better shape to reduce the risk of choking! Cut the longer foods such as carrots, sausages, cucumbers and bananas into sticks, and round foods such as grapes, cherry tomatoes and large blueberries in quarters. . . . . #chokingprevention #parenthood #firstfoods #weaning #babyfoodideas #babyfood #babyfoodrecipes #mum #dad #mumlife #dadlife #firstaid #babyboy #babygirl #twins #newborn #newmum #newdad #pregnant #preggo #preggers #birth #motherhood #fatherhood #grandmother

09.01.2022 Schoolies say no to domestic violence!!!!!!! What an awesome day! We have been making our colour run powder for the last 2 weeks and poof just like that it was all gone! Although we had a massive amount of fun it was all for a good cause and we owe a huge shout out to Dianne McKenzie whose tireless work helping victims of domestic violence inspired this colour run. We discussed different types of abuse and what to do if we see or experience domestic violence and most importan...tly where we could go for help. I would like to thank Mark Brooks and Jaime Stride for their generous donations! If you would like to donate to Women’s and children emergency centre please see Natalie, all donations will be used to help women and children fleeing domestic violence situations. We are going to follow up on this experience by having the police come and visit next week. We will be discussing stranger danger and checking out the police car! See more

06.01.2022 Act of vandalism.... unfortunately at some stage over the weekend some nasty, uncaring, thugs With nothing better to do, entered our centre gounds and destroyed our WESBOT robot that miss Natalie and the Oosh children worked so hard to build. This caused a dangerous environment for our children with smashed glass scattered all over the driveway and in the garden THIS IS VERY DISAPPOINTING but WESBOT will return... he will rise again bigger and better than before. However we have a great video surveillance system that has caught this act on camera and appropriate steps have been taken.
