22.01.2022 We are proud to be working on the first fully Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) structured dwelling in the state - soon to commence construction later this year! Res...ting on a rural hillside in Collinsvale, Tasmania, the Taylor Residence has the innovative solid timber structure exposed internally, showcasing the material that has advantages in efficiency and warmth. The program consists of a workshop for furniture making, commercial kitchen to produce preserves, and a warm, welcoming dwelling for the clients and their guests. The design is centred around a desire for high energy efficiency as a result of client direction, the high altitude context, and off-grid design. This key driver informed decisions of structural material, an envelope of high performance insulation, airlock entry, and triple glazing. The Taylor Residence layout caters for the clients daily rituals and need for multi-functional spaces with provision for future adjustments. Sunano, named after a Japanese film Suna no onna meaning Wo...man in the Dunes, is a residential project located in Dolphin Sands on the Tasmanian East Coast. Designed to be completely off-grid, the project elevates our client from her existing house, nestled low on site, to the top of the sand dunes where she can take in the breathtaking views of Freycinet National Park. Constructed from a material palette of fibre cement sheet, custom orb, exposed concrete blockwork, and concrete, the project takes note of the local vernacular of the beach shack.
