20.01.2022 It’s the inaugural WHO #AntimicrobialAwarenessWeek, aiming to promote the effective use of antibiotics in patient care and to prevent and contain antimicrobial resistance. In support of the campaign: RACP Evolve and the Australian and New Zealand Society of Geriatric Medicine ask clinicians to not use antimicrobials to treat bacteriuria in older adults where specific urinary tract symptoms are not present. https://evolve.edu.au/recommendations/anzsgm RACP Evolve and the Thor...acic Society of Australia and New Zealand recommend that physicians and paediatricians not prescribe antibiotics for exacerbation of asthma. https://evolve.edu.au/recommendations/tsanzp#s2_subs-1 RACP Evolve and the Australasian Society for Infectious Diseases remind not to use antibiotics in asymptomatic bacteriuria, not take a swab or use antibiotics for the management of a leg ulcer with no indication of clinical infection, and to avoid prescribing antibiotics for upper respiratory tract infections (with the exception of sore throat in populations at high risk for complication of group A strep infection, such as acute rheumatic fever or post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis). https://evolve.edu.au/recommendations/asid Once patients have become afebrile (non-feverish) and are clinically improving, RACP Evolve and the Internal Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand ask physicians not to continue prescribing intravenous antibiotics to those with uncomplicated infections and no high-risk features if they are tolerant of oral antibiotics. https://evolve.edu.au/recommendations/imsanz RACP Evolve ask clinicians to reduce antimicrobial use and low value care by not routinely prescribing oral antibiotics to children with fever without an identified bacterial infection. https://evolve.edu.au/recommendations/pchd
