22.01.2022 One of the benefits of having a full allied health team, is that our therapists can work together to achieve better outcomes for your child and greater family. . We recently worked with a family living in remote Queensland, where one of the therapy goals was meal times. The occupational therapist worked with the dietician. We were able to not only just have one therapist, but we could have two therapists with the family at the one time understanding the full mealtime context..., which then meant that we could select some specific strategies and then monitor much more closely than you would have in a face to face setting. . We are meeting a family in their own kitchen. So we're not taking a family out of their home and into a clinic somewhere. We can talk and practice strategies and even model using the family’s own environment and their own food supplies, for example. . The "conversations" we have with each other (colleagues, clients, friends and family) either raise cortisol levels (distrust, flight, fight, freeze, appease ...) or raise oxytocin levels connecting, trust, sharing, crea...tive). . Developing "Conversational Intelligence" helps us to know how to "up-regulate" and increase oxytocin to support communication and relationships. 09.01.2022 #news 'How I Finally Got Control Over My Kids' Screen Time Habit' . Back in the old world I sometimes used to wonder whether my sons 8 and 9 were a bit over-subscribed. I worried that maybe between all the after-school practices and playdates, and weekend plans and birthday parties, they weren't getting enough time to just "free play" and relax. Then the pandemic hit and their lives like all of ours transformed. Suddenly they had more downtime than any of us knew what... to do with. . And while I tried to replace the lost playdates and sports with spiritually-nourishing, socially-distanced activities like reading, cooking, hiking, biking, art projects and stuff, we ultimately reached a limit.
