But change, without the right culture to make it possible, is like watching a dog chase its own tail. 13.01.2022 Why do employees resist (change) Successful Transformation initiatives? The most effective tool for leaders of transformation initiatives is to understand the predictable sources of resistance in each situation....and then create strategies around them. Employees are resistant to transformation due to fear of the unknown. This fear comes from 3 key areas:... 1. Low Trust 2. Change in the status quo 3. Lack of competence And these 3 fears are born from: 1. A Lack of Communication - which means that the communication is not addressing the fear. Generally, the communication being offered is informative only. 2. Low Degree of Consultation 3. Misunderstanding about the need for (change) transformation 4. Its Temporary - McKinsey found that 70% of most transformation initiatives fail, so employees have 'seen' this before and have a lack of belief that anything will stick. 5. Changes to Routines 6. Exhaustion/Saturation - previous initiatives have not settled and normality has not been restored in the workplace. Of the more than 500 HR professionals that responded to their survey, more that 80% of HR professionals link "engagement" to "trust" in leaders. Most participants also believe that fewer than 70% of their employees are engaged. This is supported by data provided by Gallup and Officevibe which notes 71% of employees not engaged and as many as 15% are actively disengaged. ... Most reading this would not be surprised with the data. It hasn't really changed that much over the last 10 years. It is my firm belief that everyone needs to understand WHY they drag themselves out of bed in the morning and turn up for work....and by turn up, I don't mean the physical presence of the individual alone, but the head, heart and spirit of that person. As the inspirational Phill Nosworthy states, "we will never go professionally, where we are afraid to go personally".
