21.01.2022 The Legacy of the Griffins Walter Burley Griffin and his wife, Marion Mahony Griffin, are celebrated in Castlecrag for their contribution to the suburb’s development and to its community spirit. For many years, they were of interest mainly to a few specialised academics as obscure associates of the USA’s most prominent architect, Frank Lloyd Wright. Their lives and works have recently become much more accessible. Six books have been published since 1995. Documentaries have be...en made on them by Public Broadcasting Service in the USA and Film Australia and a very successful exhibition on their work was staged in Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum! 02.01.2022 On Sunday 20 October, from 10 am 3 pm, The Castlecrag Progress Association has organized this fair since 2000. There will be lots of animal attractions an interactive farm-animal petting pen in the Quadrangle and at 1 pm, a wildlife show in the nearby Cortile Reserve. Then there’s the giant inflatable playground and the raffle for a restaurant dinner. Over 30 stalls have been booked by community organizations, artists, and local sellers. A theme has emerged of sustainabi...lity. The native plant stall is always popular, with free advice and with many of the plants being sold endemic to this area. The Workshop Art Centre (WAC), which supports many local artists, will be selling artworks and providing a hands-on art experience. There will be a guided walk through Griffin walkways and reserves. Northside Radio will be broadcasting live from the Fair. An exciting new addition is a Classic Car Display, with a wide range of cars from the quirky to the exotic expected to line the western end of The Parapet. One of the cars featured will be a 1962 Austin Healey 3000.
