20.01.2022 One of the great privileges of having worked with people over the years is to gain an understanding of the triggers that affect their physical health, wellbeing, and mental health. In our work with women, weve noticed some trends, namely: 1) The Struggle of the Juggle and bearing the mental load , where women face: Balancing career with studies, Housework ... Child rearing Caring for extended family; and the running of the household 2) Body image and self-esteem issues in response to societys obsession with appearance (thanks to media and social media!) 3) Social comparison, a desire to keep up with the Joneses and a serious case of FOMO 4) Wine oclock... If any of these particularly strike a chord with you it might be time for a Mental Health Check Up! 18.01.2022 Exams. One little word that can strike fear into the hearts of the most study-hardened student. If exam anxiety is something that you struggle with, then our advice is this...... Get started NOW. Managing exam anxiety isnt something you leave to the last minute. Managing exam anxiety isnt just about relaxing. It includes: Sharpen your study skills. Learn what to learn, how to learn it well, and how to remember what you learn so you recall it come exam time. Stay healthy. Your body has to last the distance so look after it > Get in the right mindset. Self-talk can *really* dial up your anxiety. Learn to dial down unhelpful thinking styles like predictive thinking (Im going to fail, I just know it!), and slow down the catastrophising (if I dont get the mark I want its the end of my future!). Break the link between exams and feeling anxious. A psychologist can help with that, its our super power . . Or... just grab Nimble Noodle, our online exam preparation and exam anxiety management course written by The Skill Collectives own Dr Joyce Chong, Clinical Psychologist, and GP Dr Kevin Yong from @eatmovechill and Floreat Medical Joyce has worked with students for over 15 years(!), with 7 of these in University Counselling Services around Australia, so she knows a thing or two about students and exam anxiety.
