25.01.2022 Last week, as part of the Term 3 Geography Unit Place and Liveability, the Year 7 cohort visited Orion Shopping Centre, Robelle Parklands and The University of Southern Queensland. Students spent 20 minutes at each site making their own individual observations and were required to collect, select and record relevant geographical data and information from primary sources. Students will use this data to determine the influence of environmental qualities and accessibility to services in their local community. The students then spent the remainder of the time enjoying the facilities of Robelle Domain Parklands before returning to the College. #weareTSAC

22.01.2022 Last week the Year 9 students took part in Solo camp as part of The Rite Journey Program. This experience takes part at Mount Barney Lodge and a nearby property that backs onto the National Park at Mt Barney. Students are issued with a tent and their food for a challenge that requires them to camp by themselves in the bush for a period of around 20 hours. No technology or stimulus material is allowed and students are asked to spend their time pondering the big questions, refl...ecting on their place in the world or by finding creative ways to keep themselves busy in a 30 metre radius of their tent. Students are placed out at their campsite and are checked upon periodically throughout their stay. This year’s group eagerly anticipated the challenge and many students commented on the benefits that they received from taking time away from their usual schedules. This valuable experience is designed to allow students to be responsible for their actions and resilient in the face of difficult situations. The Rite Journey staff would like to congratulate the Year 9 students on the way they approached the Solo Challenge and hope that the lessons learned will serve them well in their journey through life. #weareTSAC

22.01.2022 After adopting two Koalas through WWF Australia last term, our Tiny Tartan Kindergarten students have decorated cups to collect their donation money for these precious animals. Each class now has a large class jar for all the donations and when its full we will invite the Koala Foundation to the College to present our donations. Students have earned the money for the Koala donations by doing chores at home or giving up treats. Each student excitedly received a special certif...icate to thank them for their donation towards our Koalas, Jellybean and Benny. It is heart-warming to see how the students have taken this on board and taken responsibility for their contributions. Well done kids. #weareTSAC

21.01.2022 Last weekend, two TSAC Volleyball teams competed in the Volleyball Queensland Intermediate Schools Cup Tournament at the Gold Coast. Both our boys and girls teams put in an amazing effort and commitment to representing our College at the tournament. The girls and boys teams, consisting of students from years 8-10, were playing together as teams for the very first time. The girls finished second in their pool which put them into the playoff matches for the finals. After two ...very close nail biting games which were both decided in the 3rd set, our girls team placed a very commendable 4th in Division 2. Our boys team also competed Division 2 and were undefeated in the rounds finishing at the top of their pool. They went on to win the semi-final round to put them against Cleveland in the final. In a tough finals game, our boys triumphantly took out the Silver Medal. Thank you to Matthew Papinczak, Natalie Shields and Ethan Newble who coached the teams over the weekend, and to Joshua Cool for assisting as a referee. A big thank you to the parents for coming along to cheer the teams and for their ongoing support of the Volleyball program. Congratulations on a great weekend of sport for TSAC. #weareTSAC

21.01.2022 Earlier this term, our Tiny Tartan Kindergarten students and their amazing teachers contacted the local RSPCA and asked if they would like our old mattresses for the animals at their shelter. Earlier this week, Peter, a RSPCA volunteer came to collect all the donations. He also talked to the students about caring for animals and how to be safe around animals. All the students were very excited to be helping the animals. Congratulations on this wonderful initiative for our f...urry friends. #weareTSAC

The students enjoyed the very active session and were fully engaged, they are now eager to use the ideas they learnt when they transition into Year 11. #weareTSAC

19.01.2022 So much has happened in the last fortnight. For many in our community, the aftermath of the hail storm has been very difficult. Damaged homes and cars, loss of belongings, homes being declared unliveable and the lack of alternative accommodation in the area has really taken its toll. 18.01.2022 Last week, Mr James Patmore, Head of PE and Sport Primary, headed to Ipswich for the Cricket State Championships as coach of the Met West 13 15 Years Boys team. 17.01.2022 This year, the College Chaplain, Reverend Erika, has been volunteering with an amazing community organisation that supports and connects people in the local Ipswich area. Orange Sky, started by Nic and Lucas, two young local Brisbane men in their early 20s, offers the worlds first free mobile laundry service for people experiencing homelessness and has been connecting with our homeless friends for 6 years. Their first van was installed with two washing machines and driers ...and was called Sudsy. Their mission is to positively connect communities by providing clean laundry, a warm shower and genuine conversation. In September, Reverend Erika will be participating in the Sudsy Challenge. The challenge is to wear the same outfit for three days, start conversations and to help raise funds and awareness to support the 1 in 200 Australians experiencing homelessness. 16.01.2022 Following the devastating bush fires earlier this year, our Tiny Tartan Kindergarten students are showing their support for our native animals and have adopted two koalas through the WWF-Australia (World Wide Fund for Nature). The students have received an adoption certificate and their own toy koala for each class. After a class vote, KA have named their koala Benny and KP is "JellyBean'. These lucky koalas have a beautiful home inside their classrooms which were thoughtfully created by the students. What a wonderful initiative from our Kindergarten students and teachers. #weareTSAC

16.01.2022 Our Year 10 Film, TV and Media students recently made a short video highlighting the importance of internet safety. The story follows one student as he learns what he should and shouldn't do to stay safe online. Another student appears in almost every shot, in some cases, not always noticed immediately. This student represents the person who may be following you online. It is only when the first student turns his social media settings to private that he vanishes in thin air. The video draws attention to the internet safety issue that personal details are not always secure on social media and to always be vigilant and stay safe online. #weareTSAC

14.01.2022 Our Year 1T students recently had a special visit from Elfy who dropped in to say hello and give some Christmas cheer. He came in on a sleigh, but there were no reindeer. He pretended to be Spider-Man, that was fun too. Next he was wrapped up in Christmas lights! Oh no! What will he do? Well another year has gone by and we said goodbye to our 1T Elf. I wonder what shenanigans will take place next year for that Elf on the Shelf. #weareTSAC

13.01.2022 The College is delighted to announce that three teachers are now Microsoft Innovative Experts, Benjamin Daly, Melissa Newnham and Breanna Saban. This program acknowledges teachers who are highly competent and innovative with their use of technology in the classroom and is a very exclusive group, with less than 100 teachers selected across Australia. Breanna is a newly appointed expert, Melissa and Ben were certified last year and have qualified again this year. For TSAC, having these highly skilled experts as part of our staff means that what is happening in our classrooms is the pinnacle of best practice with technology and that our teachers are setting the high standards. They are also a great support to the other staff as well, helping to develop and support those around them. #weareTSAC

07.01.2022 As the year moves on, we are at a stage where the College plans its various end of year ceremonies and events. The COVID-19 restrictions do not allow us to do things the same way they have been done in the past. The constantly evolving pandemic situation also restricts us from planning too far in advance. We are, however, very keen to continue to offer our students events that afford them their right-of-passage, even if these are not of the size and extravagance of the past. The College will continue to monitor the COVID restrictions we are operating under and adjust the organisation of our events if and when these restrictions change. Even today, as I write this article, some restrictions involving schools have been lifted. We all hope and pray that good management of the pandemic will allow us to have more parent participation at our events in the near future. 03.01.2022 Recently, the College celebrated the graduation of the Diploma of Business 2020 class. Unfortunately this year, due to COVID restrictions they could not have a full cap and gown ceremony but were still awarded their graduation certificates during assembly. This high-level qualification is nationally recognised and can be used as a means of direct entry into University. It is highly regarded in the business world and is often considered when selecting applicants for positions of added responsibility. Congratulations on this wonderful achievement. #weareTSAC

01.01.2022 Term 3 has been a very busy term, despite the Covid restrictions in place. It has been great to have a whole term of uninterrupted schooling so that student learning was not disrupted. We also had our Student Life offerings in full swing, in particular GBC Sport and Creative Arts. Many other activities were operational, providing our students with challenges outside of the normal classroom environment. Thomas and his playing partner won the match taking them into the finals where they finished as the runners up. Well done Thomas and keep training hard.
