22.01.2022 If youre looking to achieve any goal you must sharpen your tools and maintain them throughout. . The author of a book never starts out with a blunt pencil but sure enough as the pages turn it does become a little dull. . In fact some days it falls off the table, gets chewed a bit and when writers block sets in perhaps even snapped in frustration!... . As individuals we are all on a journey, each with its own challenges and set backs. Its easy at times to loose focus and interest on our goals, we become slack and some may even de rail. . Your team is made up of individuals who are all running there own race and my advice is simple. . Speak out when youre dull, help one another and offer advice and support to those who are in need. . Pull together as a team and help maintain one anothers edge. . Stay sharp. Big thanks to Colm Hickey for another beautiful piece.

19.01.2022 Here we go again.... . Important notice, the storm may have been and past but its important to pay diligence to the trees still standing. . Look up, for hanging branches, look down around the rootplate and check to see if the grounds lifted or there are cracks in the soil.... . The wind has left lots of trees in an unstable dangerous state, make it your job this morning to go and check your trees. . Stay safe. ** IMPORTANT NOTE - Please do not pose for photographs under rootplates like this, they are extremely dangerous. We have the experience to assess these trees before a picture is taken.

18.01.2022 Lets take a look back to 9 years ago, removing a large Wellingtonia in England. I was in charge of 2 teams of Arborists, and this was to be the largest Tree Id taken down in my career to date. I had worked bloody hard to get to this position, paying my own College fees, no sick days and no pay for the days I was at college, I was earning a respectable 9.50 an hour ($16.20)aud. ... I had a broken car worth 600 ($1045)aud and a heap of problems going on in my own life.... Why am I telling you this? I was told by one guy who was in my charge that Id never make an Arborist... - - - Your future doesnt depend on one persons opinion of you! Didnt get that promotion, that job, that opportunity so what.... Dont give up. If your truly passionate and understand that your fully in control of your life, work hard every single day with no excuses, youll win, it will come. So from me to him I say, howd you like me now?

18.01.2022 We responded to this emergency make safe today that you just need to see to believe! . A large dead tree in the neighbouring garden uprooted and landed slap bang between a neighbouring twin stem gum, causing it to split in half. . It left the tree in a dangerous state but worse yet it was now posing a threat to a neighbouring tree stem, that if hit may well have caused significant damage to the house.... . We had a bit to think about and soon hatched a plan and got to work. . Thanks to my team for all your efforts today, was great to be reunited. . See more

11.01.2022 FEARS... I can remember the first time I made my way up a Tree using a Rope and harness, supervised by 2 professionals with a heap of experience I had absolutely nothing to worry about. - Bullsh*t !! -... Ive never clutched to something so hard in all my life, my face was white and knuckles whiter still! Panic, dont panic, smile, dont shake, nervous smile, sweat, breath, Im not breathing and repeat... (Picture a Koala on crack) - I guess . - I remember going home that evening and explaining to my Brother that this just wasnt for me, yet I was so angry at myself, it looked so cool. I loved what the job was all about, but the reality when dangling from a rope thrown over a branch 50ft in the air just wasnt sitting well with me. - Choices.... A. Stick with it and hope it changes! B. leave it well alone and stick to a job on terraferma! C. Make up an excuse that I cant continue with it for other reasons! - I approached my Boss and explained my situation, I was a nervous wreck. I went over and over a babbling wreck. He smiled and said I think you need to continue F**K, not what I wanted to hear... - Roll on 11 years and here we are, The Tree Fairy Arborist. To this day Ive had the pleasure of climbing thousands of Trees, not just any old Trees either. The Mighty Mountain Ash that grace this beautiful area are some of the tallest in the World!! - So why tell you all this? - Our fears in life come from a place of the unknown and unchartered. They come in many different forms, from the physical to the mental. No matter your fear know this.... YOU CAN. YOU MUST. YOU WILL. Doubt is only removed by action, dont sit and worry, ponder and dwell. Step up, take whats yours and you never know! You might just surprise yourself.

07.01.2022 HANGING BY A THREAD. . Yet another branch in a risky and unstable condition on a house from the storms. . It’s our task to remove it without any further damage to property and possession.... . It’s a fragile scenario, so it’s important to understand what you’re doing and how you’re going to do it. . There’s a big difference between experience and lack of, in these situations there is simply no room for error! . Experience comes from years of continuous development at a slow and steady pace, so it’s important to look at the bigger picture in your career. . It’s true that you learn from your mistakes, however, in our line of work they need to be to be small - it’s absolutely not a race. . In this industry one mistake can cost you your life, so it’s important to embrace the journey and soak up the experience. . You’re forever simply hanging your life from a thread... . Be safe. 05.01.2022 Im fascinated by culture in the tree world. . People act like climbing a tree is some noble act, like theyve reached Ninja status and nothing else matters once youre classed as a climber. . Why are we acting like climbing is the pinnacle of our careers, it takes less then a year all in to attain a qualification in arboriculture after all...... . Im not here to try tell you climbing isnt an art and isnt a specialist subject, its bloody awesome and done correctly its quite something to watch, its no easy feat. . Im asking you to look from the outside in and understand that being a climber isnt the pinnacle, its just the beginning. . You should be building on your experience day in day out and have the patience to build a good portfolio for yourself over the years to come. . Being the best climber to me means being the person everyone wants to work with, everyone wants to learn from and who treats everyone with respect on site. . Climb the ladder of self awareness and understand what it really means to be a climber, let alone the best whatever that means to you... . See more
