25.01.2022 Anyone else had some indulgence over the weekend and looking forward to getting back to some normal eating again from tomorrow? In the past I would have been beating myself up for weekends like this, which on top of the feelings of my clothes feeling tighter, being more self conscious of how I looked and the energy drain that sometimes kicks in from not eating my ideal way, I would also be upset with myself...which sometimes would have only led to further comforting eating......who can relate...?? Instead my approach is 80/20 now days...80% of the time ideal eating and 20% of the time having something that is a little more indulgent. It’s always good for you food, but some good for you food shouldn’t be placed into the same category as a good salad! So I wanted to share this because I know comfort eating and even more importantly the food you eat to feel better about your comfort eating is really a big road block for many of you wanting to feel better, feel lighter, take better care of yourselves and feel great in your skin. Be kind to yourself, everything we do is for a reason and we are ALL human, we all have our ups and downs, we all also have the same opportunities to change our behaviour in a instant. So if tomorrow is you getting back on the ‘wagon’ again, then I’m with you and I’m sending you lots of positive and loving vibes.

If you can’t remember or you aren’t sure, maybe you have never experienced that then the next question is when was the last time you looked at yourself with a loving smile and felt absolute love towards yourself? When was the last time your inner voice said you’re amazing We can only experience what we f...irst know in other words if you don’t like yourself, you will doubt or even reject others acts of affection towards you. 23.01.2022 Are you your own worst critic? Does that voice inside your head belittle you, doubt you, question your every decision, put you down or make unfair comparisons of you to someone else? Self acceptance is fundamental to knowing you are good enough and knowing you are good enough gives you the motivation to perform, to explore, to love and to connect. ... So how do you develop self acceptance? Firstly you must give yourself time and space to be with your own thoughts and feelings. Our ‘busy’ lifestyles make this hard to achieve at times but it is essential that we create this for ourselves. Secondly you must take a journey of personal discovery. This has been such a blessing in my own life. Once we can understand why we think and feel the way we do, why we act the way we do and who we are under the surface of the roles we play then the journey to self acceptance is well under way. Thirdly we must open ourselves up to the vulnerability of experiencing social support. When you can share your true personal thoughts and feelings with someone and have them truly hear you without judgement but rather with support and love then we can experience what it is to be human. Ask yourself, do you give yourself what you need to create a better sense of self acceptance or do you find yourself always busy, staying within your comfort, avoiding opportunities to grow and learn about yourself and always putting on a brave face to stop people from seeing the ‘real’ you? 23.01.2022 How are you feeling about the relaxed guidelines announced Sunday for WA? Small changes, never-the-less progress right?! I’ve heard mixed thoughts and feelings...while we are all looking forward to our sense of freedom again, for some, the benefits of slowing down, having more quality family time and to some extent greater control over your routine has been enjoyable and what some would say a silver lining. For some people they have expressed their thoughts about not being ...ready yet to ‘come out of isolation’! I think if we can really get clear on what lessons we have learnt during this time so far, and make decisions about what we would like to keep moving forward then we can feel more ready, better prepared, more empowered to move on through our COVID-19 experience. 21.01.2022 The body does what the mind believes is possible and the body is the mind’s feedback to let it know it was right. The mind body connection works both ways This is me, in the middle of training this morning. Exercise is more than being fit and healthy, it is a play ground to stretch yourself and learn a little more about yourself. What you are capable of, how to listen to your body, how to get the best from yourself. ... Exercise can turn a average day into a good day. Physically the hormonal changes that take place during exercise guarantee a smile to arrive on your face, even if it is only once the workout is done. Exercise relieves stress, puts that excess cortisol to work for a short period of time and gives your body a reason to switch it off post workout. Exercise is one of my constants. It is something that I do to give me strength, give me calm, create happiness, create drive and motivation, it gives me a focus and it connects me with like minded people. I wouldn’t be without it. 20.01.2022 How much does taking care of you mean that you enjoy time with them SO MUCH MORE!!? I know this is so true for myself. You don’t have to be a Mum with young children to appreciate this. You may be highly engaged in your career, you may older children who need your support just as much (if not more) as young children do. Regardless of your situation, taking some time to look after you IS NOT SELFISH, IT IS NECESSARY! I hear so often from women, taking time out for themselves... either involves guilt or it is put in the ‘too hard basket’ but after a while your capacity to support others becomes limited by your own exhaustion and discontent. Do yourself and them a favour and factor in activities / time / events for yourself that make sure you are taken care of too! 19.01.2022 I was craving something warm and cosy to drink today...but I’d already had my daily coffee and I wasn’t on the mood for tea...I was looking for something more ‘satisfying’ . My dilemma however was that I wanted something like a hot chocolate (I would have settled for a latte of any sort) but I didn’t want the sugar usually associated with some of these drinks...so I experimented. I put a heaped teaspoon of Organic Cacao powder in a cup with unsweetened Coconut Milk, then a... dash of peppermint essence and a dash of vanilla essence and it was goooodddd. The peppermint and vanilla took the bitterness of the cacao and lessened the need for sugar. I will also say that I don’t have a big sweet tooth so I didn’t miss the lack of sugar...but it could just be me! Anyway, thought I’d share for those of you looking for a something delicious and warm.

18.01.2022 Hands up if you need coffee to get you going in the morning? Is it the first thing you think to do in the morning or at least the first thing you look forward to? And do you struggle to gain the energy you want for your morning or your day?? ... This absolutely used to be my experience...I had to have a coffee to wake up and resemble any level of functioning first thing in the morning. It used to be something I would take into consideration when travelling...where will I get my coffee from and conversations pre-coffee lets just say weren’t too ‘deep and meaningful’ Now however I don’t have coffee until about midday and as a result I have MORE energy not only in the morning but for the rest of my day too It all has to do with our body’s natural cortisol rhythm and how disruptive can be on that rhythm if consumed when we ar meant to have a natural cortisol peak at roughly 8am. Because coffee is a stimulant it interrupts our bodies natural release of cortisol (because the body believe it has enough stimulant flowing through it from the caffeine) and as a result releases even less cortisol resulting in less naturally occurring energy and greater reliance on coffee. If you’re keen to give this a shot, break the dependence on coffee and gain more energy naturally I recommend stopping coffee completely for 2 weeks (the first three days may not be pleasant but after that you start to feel a world better) and then you can reintroduce coffee, delaying your first coffee until at least 10am, ideally midday, so as not interfere with your evening sleep but to also give your body a chance to self regulate your energy with its cortisol release. 16.01.2022 Hands up who’s seen a few of these the last few days or week? ...and who’s ready for some clean eating starting tomorrow Outside of it just being Easter...who has found that the past few weeks of social distancing and being at home more often has led to some less healthy eating...more comfort eating and drinking, eating out of boredom, eating to satisfy a need for variety and experience ‘something different’...eating and drinking to ease stress...or possibly... all of the above?! 12.01.2022 How important are your relationships to your health and wellbeing?.... SUPER IMPORTANT! In fact for many people good quality relationships are the reason that they want to be fit and healthy! Good quality relationships help us to feel more positive, they help us to feel safe, secure and supported. Studies have shown that people who have good quality relationships tend to live longer, have a lower risk of health problems and are happier. Good quality relationships he...lp us to manage stress. When we have someone who is supportive, a good listener and we can feel safe in the presence of, we open ourselves up to being vulnerable, to expressing our true feelings and thoughts, without fear of judgement. By doing so, this expression of feelings and thoughts gives us an outlet to release fears and negative emotions, and if appropriate, can also offer an opportunity for our friend or partner to offer a different perspective on the experience which may help us to shift our focus away from the experience of stress to one that is more positive, optimistic and proactive. When it comes to healthy habits, the social support offered by good quality relationships can help us develop and stick to healthy habits. We ALWAYS see that when a couple or a group of people are involved in a behaviour to achieve a common goal there is ALWAYS greater adherence to the behaviour over a longer period of time. And if the group deteriorates, then so too does the behaviour, identifying just how powerful the social support is. So, how much do your relationships in your life promote good health for you? If you struggle with managing your own expectations of yourself....you get down on yourself when you ‘fail’ to stick to your own rules, you put extra pressure in yourself to ‘make up’ for what you haven’t done, you wind up feeling tense, anxious, frustrated, exhausted...then this video shares a bit about the importance of having a little flexibility from time to time.

12.01.2022 The greatest gift you can give yourself and others...be present. Present to yourself, how you are feeling and thinking, the ‘whispers’ your body is sharing with you and the self talk that can go unnoticed in the background. Present to the person you love, when you wake in the morning, when you get home at the end of the day and before you close your eyes at night, look each other in the eyes and really tune in to what they are feeling. To your children, during times of play, at the dinner table and before they go to sleep at night, talk to them and listen to what they share, it is all meaningful. Presence is the best way for you to know you are living your authentic life, being the best version of you and responding to what matters most. For those who may be feeling lost or disconnected with who you are or facing an experience in life that is causing you stress or heartbreak then creating space and time to rediscover yourself is not necessarily the first thing you might think to do to resolve these issues. It’s important to take responsibility for your own health and wellbeing right now - and that doesn’t mean sitting at home on the couch all day because you’ve decided to self isolate. If you are self isolating by choice (not because you have been asked to quarantine yourself through dire...ct exposure) then it’s good to understand that studies have shown that a mass community quarantine for 2 weeks when incidents of infection are low and health system has the capacity to treat the sick, actually only delays a spike in incidents because no one is developing immunity. Social distancing is ideal to #flattenthecurve with a choice of social settings you place yourself in, avoiding large group gatherings especially indoors is recommended. In addition to this taking care of your health and wellbeing is more important than ever to reduce the severity of the virus on your body should you catch it by boosting your immune system. Move your body daily: if you’re not going out as much and you find yourself with some extra time on your hands then what better to do with that time than a bit of a circuit, a nice walk outdoors or even a run!! Eat fresh, cook your meals, decrease sugar and trans fats. Nutrition is key to good health and again if you have some extra time on yours hands, now is the perfect time to get cooking. Boost your immunity and your nutrition with some good quality supplements. If you want even more of the good stuff take a multivitamin daily with a extra dose of good quality vitamin C, zinc, vitamin d, all complementary to a strong immune system Take measures to create a positive mental and emotional state. Yep, it’s an uncertain time but fear, stress, anger, sadness, loneliness, frustration, despair only weakens your immune system. So do whatever you can do to shift yourself into a positive state...put on some good music, have a chat with a friend over the phone, exercise, do something you love and that puts a smile on your face. This was my equipment layout for my workout this morning training alongside a online, coach led, live workout with F45 Training Victoria Park which is fantastic...stay tuned for how you can get access to this if you’re not already a member of this studio!! In the meantime, here is a simply body weight circuit that you can do for yourself if you haven’t already engaged in a ‘at home’ workout format. I plan to post more exercise plans, so keep an... eye out! Hello beautiful women! On my trip back home today and thinking of you all. Here is the beach workout that we did together on Sunday if you are looking for a workout structure to get you started with some home based workouts. I’ve given a option for completely equipment less, or if you own some weights you can keep the Snatch exercise in Circuit 5. Tip: you can use a can of food, a large water bottle (filled with water!) or even something like a hammer from the garage to replace the dumbbell if you need. Mark and I have been brainstorming lots of ways that we can support community over the last 24hrs so watch this space for some further guidance on health and wellbeing measures to help you during these times Here’s the workout: Body Weight Workout - with weighted options if you like. Perform each Circuit for 4 mins before moving onto the next circuit. 1 lap for a 30 min workout, 2 laps for longer. Circuit 1 - 4 mins Shuttle run: 5 to 10m / power walk - 5 pushups at each end Circuit 2 - 4 mins Inchworm out and back, squat hold with air punches, side step right. Inchworm out and back, squat hold with air punches, side step left. Circuit 3 - 4 mins Low side stepping squat left x 5, mountain climbers x 10. Repeat travelling in the opposite direction. Circuit 4 - 4 mins Bear crawl x 10 or walking lunges, prisoner squats x 5 Circuit 5 - 4 mins Single arm Dumbbell Snatch alternating arms x 10 (alternative if no weights: 10 low pulsing squats with body weight) standing torso twist with or without dumbell Circuit 6 - 4 mins Body weight squat with knee lift x 10, sit-ups x 10 Enjoy! 01.01.2022 TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF MEANS MENTALLY AND EMOTIONALLY TOO Yesterday I did something different. I got out of the house and my girls and I went on an ‘adventure’...we had a picnic, we watched trains, we did a spot of shopping and we went splashing in the ‘puddles’ at the beach. This may not seem all that adventurous for some, but it was something very different for us of late. We have spent a lot of time at home, and at home for me = what else needs to be done? ... Sometimes we don’t realise what we’re feeling until we have an experience of the alternative! I didn’t realise how ‘switched on’ I had become. What does that mean? It means how much time I was not spending in a state of relaxation, being present, giving my mind and body time to recover and rejuvenate, having fun, being playful... Instead at home, I had fallen into a pattern of always thinking of what’s the next thing to do, minding over the girls, taking care of their every need, training and if possible working...all of which meant that I was always ‘switched on’. Our mind and body needs access to activities which we may not traditionally value as ‘important’ but they are vital for our true ability to recover. I’m talking about creative / feminine energy activities...reading a novel in the sunshine, taking a stroll in the fresh air, splashing in puddles, painting, drawing, playing music, dancing around your house, designing something for your home...all of these are creative / feminine energy activities and they help you to ‘switch off’. To get out of your head and become present to what is right there with you right now. They boost your energy levels, overcome fatigue and exhaustion, they make your heart smile and your soul sing. Until yesterday, I didn’t realise that I had been missing this...it was having the experience of how else it can be that made me realise where the gap had been. I went to bed last night feeling fulfilled, happy and recharged for some more ‘focused’ work today. If you’re in the same boat, if you’re spending at lot of time at work and or in the workplace, spending a lot of time looking after children and little time engaged in nurturing, fun, creative, playful activities then you may be feeling tired, run down, flat, heavy, sad, lost and lacking motivation. Bring some more colour into your life and notice what changes it makes to your mood, your energy levels, your outlook on life and your wellbeing.
