Then a male colleague would say exactly the same idea but change one or two words, and everybody would look at him and say, Wow! Brilliant! Fantastic!. (From Chapter 3: Shrill... or Soft, page 161). Julie Bishop has told me this story. The women in the Obama campaign in 2016 even had a strategy to manage this - they called it Amplification: when a woman made a key point, other women would repeat it, giving credit to its author. This forced the men in the room to recognize the contribution and denied them the chance to claim the idea as their own. Get into this book and see what it is really like at the top for women.
