05.01.2022 FOR THE WIRED, TIRED & UNINSPIRED... Getting Your Qi Flowing Ahhhhh sweet friend. I see you. I remember when your smile reached your eyes, I remember when you ...laughed from your belly with me until neither of us could breathe, but what I miss most of all is that sense of freedom and spontaneity you used to radiate. Now you feel rigid and brittle and ready to explode in tears or rage at any moment. How did we end up here? When I was first introduced to Taoism at Uni I remember my professor telling an ancient story about a group of people watching an old Taoist hermit on the top of an impossibly tall waterfall. He approached the cliff-edge serenely as though to practice Tai Qi but then just tumbled over the edge. The waters foamed and gnashed their spuming maws at the bottom of the drop and the villagers rushed over to recover the body for surely none could survive such a drop. But then the old man’s head burst to the surface grinning like a child as he filled his lungs with air once more. When asked how such a feat was possible he replied thus: Previously I was drowning in my life at court because I was full of tension. The currents of the world were so strong, yet I tried again and yet again to assert my will and move where I felt I would be better served. Yet this only exhausted me and filled me with frustration. Even when successes came my way I was too rigid and tense to enjoy them. Then one day, seeing no hope, I threw myself off this very waterfall to end my life. Yet in surrendering to the raging currents completely I was quickly brought back to the surface. Since then I have taken the waterfall as my teacher in the Tao and regularly return to study its mystery. This story is so beautiful and guided me through so many difficult times as a young man, yet sometimes it’s not so easy. Some time our Qi is so bound up and tight, our body so closed and rigid, our mind so tense and stuck that we truly can’t find our way to ‘let go and let God’ as my AA friends say. This is when we need to first move the Qi through our body so that we can then release it through the soul. Everyone these days is taking adaptogenic tonics to get more Qi, for this is the global energy crisis of humanity’s failing adrenal reserves. Yet if that increased energy isn’t flowing smoothly through your nervous system and the subtle channels of your myofascial meridians then it simply makes things worse. If the dam is blocked putting more water in just creates more pressure. What those ancient Taoist herb masters learnt was that in such cases first you need to use herbs that ‘move the Qi’ then you can top up your reserves once things are flowing again. This is not a herbal medicine strategy that naturopaths and western herbalists are generally familiar with. Our traditional nervines are actually amazing, but to create a good formula to move the Qi and release constraint requires more than simply a stack of 5 nervines. Here are my got-to formulations that I use for patients who are wired, tired and uninspired due to a pattern of ‘Constrained Qi’. The Free & Easy Qi Pill Bupleurum Blessed Thistle Peony Cypress root Chamomile Mugwort Zizyphus Lime Peel The Free & Easy Qi Elixir Mistletoe Melissa Catnip Jamaican Dogwood Rosemary Mandarin EO Clary Sage EO Wild honey To order these amazing formulas simply comment I’m in below or better yet, send me a private message. PRICES & PACKAGES 3 Week Sample Kit: ($10 discount) 50 caps and 100ml spray bottle of Elixir - $75 + postage Full Course 100 Caps & 2 Bottles of Elixir - $130 ($25 discount) I’m Losing My Shit Kit - $160 ($50 discount normally $210) 100 Caps 2 Bottles of Elixir Activated B Complex Free N Easy Caffeine Free Tea POSTAGE: Within Australia $10, overseas orders welcome. ORDERING: Just comment ‘I’m in!’ below or for a faster response send me a PM and my PA will RSVP ASAP. These formulas contain herbs and combinations that will seem unusual to western herbalists but in publishing them I hope to inspire greater variety in our industry's prescriptions. The trick is to go beyond nervines alone, and also use liver herbs like blessed thistle that have a long history of treating these patterns, but also herbs like Mistletoe which could be thought of as ‘cardiovascular relaxants’. See if in studying them they expand your formula-making strategy.
