25.01.2022 NEW STUDIO There is no doubt this year has been challenging for many small businesses. But I’m not one to sit still and I love a project! ... So, we got stuck in during the ‘downtime’ and created a new studio space for The White Orchid. It’s bigger, better and I’m loving creating in there. I love Industrial interiors, so we took the bones of the space, a solid concrete floor and metal framework and added layers. We sourced a beautiful old concrete double laundry trough and a pair of vintage enamel warehouse pendants that had been rewired (win!) off gumtree and spent many, many hours/days painting, painting and painting! Still finishing touches to do like tiling the sink splash back, adding some shelving and door windows but she’s nearly there

I’ve used both varieties in a range of colours for a few recent weddings. They are seasonal and just stunning at this time of year

20.01.2022 HELLO 2020! I have been quiet on social media for the month of January for a few reasons. I wanted to spend as much time in the school holidays as possible with my two beautiful children before my youngest started school today. I also needed some time to process all that has happened in recent weeks with the devastating Australian bushfires. ... I have a connection to Mother Nature through flowers. Over 15 years as I florist I have seen the affects of climate change, seasons are out of whack, stories from local growers of extreme weather conditions on the land affecting flower supply and quality, drought and now bushfires which heartbreakingly devastated a beautiful local flower farm in the Adelaide Hills before Christmas. Personally Ive donated money to CFS and goods to those affected by the bushfires. Ive written a letter to my local MP and protested for climate action. My business has donated money to Koalas/wildlife and Im looking at ways in 2020 I can make my business practices more sustainable including researching costs involved in solar panels for my home/studio and alternatives to floral foam. Id love to connect with other florists who are having success with this. Ill be buying and supporting local even more so, planting more trees and plants in my garden and always looking at ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. Its a South African native flower but grows well here also and comes in pink too. Keep an eye out for it as its in season now

Originally planned for late March, postponed due to Covid to December, then second wave hit with many family members in Victoria, so they decided to go ahead and be married within guidelines in August. ... They chose to pivot and persevere, through all the changing restrictions. I admire them for making the decision that was best for them and so happy that they got to have a beautiful wedding day. In the spirit of Christmas I was inspired by my 8yr old son who wanted to give his pocket money to the koalas who were effected by recent bushfires. 16.01.2022 THANK YOU 2020 has been a rollercoaster and one I will never forget. By far the hardest year in my 12 years of business. I've cried, I've panicked, I've laughed and I've dug deep, working my arse off behind the scenes trying to have something to show for this year. I am proud of the growth and what has been achieved.... I've worked with many couples, some whose weddings went ahead and many that didn't. I've stepped into new roles, teaching floristry, made new business relationships, lined up weddings and events for 2021. Here's hoping it's a smoother ride next year. Thank you to all my couples for understanding as we rode the waves together. I look forward to creating for those waiting for next year. Thank you to my family and friends for constant support. Thank you to my floral contractors who have been so flexible with all the changes. 13.01.2022 UPDATE || Hello, how is everyone going this week? I hope you are all keeping well Just wanted to give a little update, weve been keeping busy behind the scenes, sorting out our little studio, playing with local flowers and dried textures, designing a new wedding collection, updating our website and backend systems. Some days are definitely more productive than others as we continue to wrap our head around this new world, so time is also being spent on self care, a bit of ...exercise here and there and staying connected to family and friends. I just wanted to also thank my new lovely clients who have contacted and booked their future wedding. I love using multiple flowers in the same colour tone, it gives such depth and contrast to a bouquet. 09.01.2022 When you run a small business such as wedding + event floral design where the workload comes in peaks, naturally you can't do it alone. Hence there are helpers behind the scene, mainly family whom I am so thankful for, assisting with deliveries/setup. My husband is my IT guru and 'Director of Logistics' (self appointed title) but I seriously couldn't do this for a living without his support. There is also another special person who has worked with me for years now, the love...ly Anthea. She has made so many gorgeous wedding florals for The White Orchid Floral Design, table centrepieces, feature arrangements and hanging installations, all while we chat about our lives, children, flowers, tv shows and current events. Recently we celebrated her 50th birthday and collaborated together on the florals for her special day. Our friendship through flowers is one I hold very close to my heart, Happy 50th Birthday Anthea! 09.01.2022 HELLO AGAIN, Like everyone else, things have been rather different at The White Orchid Floral Design over the last few weeks. On March 13th I was on such a high having completed one of my biggest weddings to date, I was excited, looking forward to future new opportunities and ready to create beautiful florals for my Autumn/Winter couples.... Then everything just stopped. Paused. Time was needed to process. For a time like this I retreat into my family, my home, making sure my children are okay during this extraordinary event. Trying my best to keep routine and home school my 5 and nearly 9-year-old. There is a lot of worry, fear, anxiety and a roller coaster of emotions that comes with a global pandemic. Writing those words still feels so surreal. The news from overseas is devastating. We are so lucky here in Australia, especially South Australia, we are flattening the curve, there is hope. I am heartbroken for all the plans that couldnt go ahead at this time, weddings, birthday celebrations, time with extended family, my daughters first year of school But I know they are all simply on hold. They will happen in the future. I just wanted to thank all my beautiful couples who are postponing, continuing to look to the future, for supporting The White Orchid, for being kind, it is greatly appreciated. When the time comes those celebrations are going to be epic! Until then, stay safe, stay home. 01.01.2022 A beautiful customer of mine sent me this photo of her everlasting wreath hanging on her wall at home, how good does it look! Thank you again to all the lovely customers who ordered a Christmas wreath this year. As promised, Nate and I, have just placed a donation ($5 from every wreath sold) to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital to help the koalas recover from the fires and plant more eucalyptus trees. I had heard that 80% of their habitat had been destroyed recently so they need our help! 01.01.2022 STAY SAFE SA I still can't quite believe that this time last week my studio was filled with blooms for my brother-in-laws wedding and how quickly things have changed here in SA. My heart goes out to those who had to cancel their wedding or event for this weekend, my industry friends and suppliers with fresh stock that can't be used and having to reschedule in an uncertain time again. ... I've been in contact with my remaining 2020 clients this morning and for all my future couples I am hopeful that with a hard lockdown, restrictions will lift again in time for your wedding day or event. Please know, I am very flexible and able to work with you to find solutions within guidelines. So for the moment I guess it’s a case of wait and see how we go over the next few days/weeks. I am crossing all my fingers and toes and sending love and positive vibes to all. Especially grateful for all the frontline workers who are keeping everyone safe, thank you and take care everyone Xx
