24.01.2022 "Farm Tails" - Friday - Water it’s so precious and in my opinion, when you have a family of 6 (who like long showers and deep baths), plus animals, you need a lot. It can never go to waste and when you are on your own supply you begin to realise how much you use everyday and how much we took it for granted when we turned on our taps in Melbourne never giving it a second thought as to where it was coming from. - The water supply was something we never even considered when w...e made our Tree Change. We saw 3 x 22,000 litre tanks and a full dam the previous owners assured us that this was more than enough and that they’d never run out of water. Did we check the tanks? Nope. Did we ask about the dam and if it was seasonal? Nope. Did we run out of water, absolutely we did!! - Why? Because only one tank was full, only 2 of them were connected to catch rain water the 3rd one was for decorative purposes only it seems, the down-pipes meant to be filling the tanks weren’t taken care of and were unable to do their job and the dam was seasonal, so dried up pretty quick smart when the sun made its return. This meant humans and animals were without water and we had to sort this out urgently = Spend more money!!........$$$$$ - Firstly, we had to buy water in to fill our tanks yes that is a thing, I had no idea!! Secondly, we had to get water to our paddocks for our steers, that meant having a bore drilled, water troughs, bore pump, trenches dug to lay pipe and fittings out to the paddocks you know just a small job that’ll take a couple of hours yeah right. - We got there in the end - with everyone fully hydrated and the kids no longer having bucket baths. - Make your own Tree Change you will not regret it.
