25.01.2022 WE ARE LOOKING FOR A SECRETARY. If you would like to support TFB and can spare one evening per month please send us a message. No experience necessary for the position of Secretary on the TFB committee, just take the minutes for the meeting and send to the committee members. Send us a IM if you would like to know more. THANKS!

22.01.2022 A big thank you to everyone who attended tonight's Heart of Brass concert at The Goods Shed as part of the 2019 State Festival. It was awesome to see a full house...we had a ball playing for you!

22.01.2022 Just a small announcement : A few of us in the Thompson's Foundry Band have been working away on a little side project brass quintet (sometimes quartet), called "B54". We couldn't help ourselves - we are compelled to fatigue our lips, lungs, & guts by playing brass instruments. We'll be playing some less frequently heard Christmas Carols + some favourites (and possibly some other selections from our growing repertoire) under the tree near the western IGA entrance behind the taxi rank on Sunday the 29th @1:00pm. Please stop by and have a listen. No charge...we might even have to pay you!

21.01.2022 What we know as Silent Night was originally composed in Austria, under the title Stille Nacht, by Franz Xaver Gruber.

20.01.2022 Getting the band back together! It’s a beautiful evening for our first rehearsal back.

16.01.2022 Another great time at this year's Harcourt Applefest. Always a pleasure to be invited to play at this event. Biggest audience yet!

15.01.2022 Bradley warming up outside the Goods Shed before our final show in the 2019 State Festival. We're on in 20min!

14.01.2022 So THAT'S what their score says! More music at www.interlude.hk!

14.01.2022 So saddened to hear of Peters passing. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

13.01.2022 Anyone planning to attend the Rotary Christmas Carols tonight, please note that it is no longer at Victory Park. It will now be at 8pm at the (AIRCONDITIONED!!) Church of Christ on Blakeley Rd, Castlemaine. The band will play, the choir will sing, kids can run around and Santa will surely make an appearance!

13.01.2022 To All Players : At tonight's committee meeting, in light of the recent spike in infection numbers, it was decided that in the interest of everyone's health and safety, that we will postpone reconvening for band rehearsal until spring rather than this upcoming Thursday. You'll get an email re: this as well. We will re-evaluate at our next meeting on August 10th if anything changes. Hopefully we'll be in a position to toot our own horns sooner rather than later.

11.01.2022 Rehearsals and tuition are cancelled for the time being. We plan to resume on April 23rd... and will confirm that on the 21st. Please stay in touch and connected, if we can help you please let us know. Keep the faith and the embouchure good people.

10.01.2022 Just letting everyone know that copies of our new DVD 'They Played in a Tin Shed' are available at Maine Shoes and Accessories on Barker St, Castlemaine for $20. It is a beautiful short documentary celebrating the band's long history as well as what it is right now. Also on the DVD is a complete, one hour viewing of the concert we played at the foundry during the 2017 Sate Festival. Footage from both performances have been edited together to give you the best of the two nights.

10.01.2022 Even though we won't be playing together as a band at the Anzac Day Service this year, a few of us players will be playing The Last Post at 6am in our driveways as a part of #MusicforMateship. https://musicformateship.org It's being discussed on ABC Classic today and should be quite a special way of observing Anzac Day under these unusual circumstances. Please join us.

08.01.2022 Please read for info in Anzac day Castlemaine 2020

08.01.2022 We've been on break since March to protect the health of our players and do our bit for the community at large in these corona times, but hopefully they are all still practicing at home Please excuse the bad language.

05.01.2022 Sadly Peter Ward passed away this week. He was a much loved member of the band and will be sadly missed. Vale Peter

04.01.2022 This has been posted before but it's a good reminder....

03.01.2022 Committee...seeking approval...

01.01.2022 EDIT: CHANGED TIME FOR AUSSIES! Hey all, if anyone is free at the time, on 10:50 am this SATURDAY 17/8/19 (15 hours behind if you're a Central Time Yank ) , you should be able to tune in to a live stream of the Victorian Brass Championships in which we are competing. We are Thompson's Foundry Band from Castlemaine - not sure if there will be any delay, might be worth checking the brassbanned website as the time approaches. We are playing 4 selections - goes for about 25mins.... The website is here: https://brassbanned.com/upcoming-events/ We'll be playing a hymn, a test piece in 4 movements, a recognisable pop tune from the 70s, and a right rousing march. Test piece means that all competitors at that level have to play it. The other tunes are of our choosing. Years ago, the above test piece was for A Grade - it's reasonably difficult. Our band doesn't get too wrapped up in the competition per se (some bands exist for it). We do it as a way to challenge ourselves, step outside our comfort zone, and develop as musicians - and have a bit of fun! Bands from all over Victoria at every level (grades A, B, C, D - we are D as we're just a ragtag bunch of folks who love to play - Grade A & B are nearly professional). This is not a competition we normally do and is in a different region than we normally hang. Have a listen to a bunch of enthusiastic amateurs!

01.01.2022 A free performance by our neighbouring bands for a great Good Friday! The City of Greater Bendigo Brass Band, Eaglehawk Brass Band, Evergreen Brass Band, Bendigo & District Concert Band and Marist Brass Band have been a part of the Easter tradition in Bendigo for many years and traditionally perform as part of the parades. They play at Ulumbarra Theatre for a combined performance where each band will present a short programme for your enjoyment. Session duration is 2 hours
