25.01.2022 Curious lad. Such a pleasure to work with this youngster #thomsonequestrian #wambloodstallion #younghorse #kwpnhorse

24.01.2022 So excited to have a positive preg test for Diamond B Velveteen (Vivant x Conquistador x Starlight) she is in foal to my young KWPN stallion Maelstrom (Stars and Stripes x Valhalla x Family Ties) Thanks to all the crew at Meander Valley Veterinary Service, in particular Dr Roger Blackwell, Dr Hannah O’Brien, and Shannon Lee

23.01.2022 Mid August I told all my pupils to get their horses OFF the grass. This is why. My horses appear to be living in very small, very bare paddocks. BUT they are literally eating that lush green feed as it grows. Reality is they’re living on old dry hay and more than adequate fresh growth - as evidenced by the grass being greener on the other side of the fence.... Cruel? No Laminitis? Also no (that’s cruel) Prudent? Absolutely If you’ve been in a jumping warm up arena lately you’ll have seen lots of barely manageable horses. You might even have one at home. Not necessarily because you or they are poorly trained, but perhaps because their fresh grass intake is not as well managed as you think it is.

22.01.2022 Comparison: geldings vs stallions.... this is the colt's first time in the paddocks at the front of the stables. TE Two to Tango demonstrating to Maelstrom how to keep himself entire, while the geldings misbehave #thomsonequestrian #breedingseason #warmbloodstallion #kwpnhorse #warmbloodsofinstagram

22.01.2022 Very good boy waiting quietly at the vet today for AI collection. #warmbloodstallion #kwpnhorse #thomsonequestrian #breedingseason

22.01.2022 If you think windy days are a nightmare for horse training, you are right. But also. you’re very wrong! Today in Tasmania we had either gale or strong wind warnings for much of the state. I had a full day of lessons. Did we cancel? No way! You can always help your horse, no matter the weather. Sure, you might not end up in the type of training session you had planned, but there are literally zero reasons to not develop your horse’s eduation if the weather conditions aren’...t favourable. Today one of my pupils had 2 horses ready for her lessons. It was so windy my hat blew off three times, and a couple of limbs blew out of trees! The young grey mare has previously been very reactive in windy weather, and she’s a big mare! Potentially, most would say it would not be advisable to be working in that kind of weather just in case something goes wrong, BUT just look at her now! All due to quietly, calmly persisting with her education on all previous days like this one. Turn the sound up on the video, you will hear how wild it was. Then look at the horses’ eyes and ears. What do they say? Frightening? Not at all. Why? We train for this. In bad weather we ask and expect less, but IMPORTANTLY we still ask. Today, all that involved was standing still. Eyes and ears (and still feet) tell the story. We have had lots of days like this. Perfect conditions are rare. So rare that we carry on regardless. And it works! The bay mare is an older, experienced lease horse who has likely "limited ridden exposure in inclement weather. Her owner like most would, with all best intentions, only want to give/recieve good experiences. However in the quest to be the best, many owners miss out on fabulous opportunities to ensure their horses are still supported in windy, wet, cold, hot, uncomfortable weather as well as on nicer days. If you only ride on good days you are missing valuable opportunities. Instead of making excuses about why you won’t ride today, ask yourself: What can I do to help my horse handle the weather today? That will often mean you do unridden sessions, and they are more valuable than you can even imagine. Repeat this often enough and you’ll benefit from being able to train under saddle as well, all year round.

20.01.2022 Another positive preg test today! Congratulations Velvet, thank you for choosing TE Two to Tango to produce a black Arabian Warmblood foal #breedingseason #thomsonequestrian #warmbloodstallion

19.01.2022 What would you do if your life expectancy was 27 months from today? People with Motor Neurone Disease have a life expectancy on average 27 months from diagnosis. On November 27th (this Friday) there is a FightMND 27 Challenge Event in Deloraine. It is an open show jumping training rounds fundraiser, and you can help via a $27 entry fee.... All funds go to finding treatments and a cure for MND If you’d like to help #FightMND send in an entry before midnight tonight via nominate (link below) If you’d like to ride under guidance of coaches and course designers you’ll be coached over 3 rounds of 9 fences (yep, 27 again) There are great people out there all wanting to help - so many entries an extra ring has been added, so now even more can ride! There will now be two EA level 2 coaches and course designers to help you on course. Don’t have a horse?
