19.05.2022

05.05.2022 Gratitude is the act of being thankful and appreciating certain things in our life. Practicing this regularly helps us feel more positive emotions, appreciate good experiences, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships. Write down 3 things you are grateful for today and continue this every day for a week to see how you feel. #mindfulmay #mindfulness #actbelongcommit #gratitude

23.04.2022 Today we issued RATs to Year 7 - 9 students. This means all students that have been at school this week have now been issued their allocation. Please check with your child for their pack. 18.04.2022 Thank you to our Thornlie SHS P &C - we are so grateful for everything you do for our school community! https://youtu.be/TO1iRdf5yKI

04.04.2022 HAPPY P&C DAY WA! Today we say THANK YOU to all of WA’s amazing P&Cs for contributing so much to our schools. P&C volunteers are a shining light within school communities, their dedication and passion help to provide WA students with the excellent educational journey they deserve. In 2021 WA P&Cs made huge contributions to our schools, donating an impressive collective total of... $17.2 million. P&C members also volunteered a whopping 581,672 hours of their time, which has an estimated total of $28 million. It's essential to recognise that each hour volunteered and dollar donated helps to ensure students across WA have an exceptional educational journey. We encourage school communities to get onboard, share the P&C shine, and let your local P&C know that you see all the amazing things they do. #PANDCDAYWA

19.01.2022 Little ears take in a lot of information! They are growing people, imagining, playing, learning and observing. The current state of our Perth region and surrou...ndings is an alarming and anxiety provoking situation. Who would have thought we’d have lockdown and evacuation measures in place at the same time? Sometimes we may not realise the amount of information our little people take in and think about. These can become worries before we know it. You might find they ask why can’t I go to school? or do I have to wear a mask?. These questions to us have simple answers, but to little ones, it’s not that straightforward. This process of questioning may stem from worries they have, and through those questions, they search for support from people they trust. It is important we answer well, so they can learn how to manage their worries. My nephew’s favourite question is but why, Bec?. Kids are always wondering and thinking, with curiosity. It is perfectly fine to feel stuck in our tracks trying to explain adult issues to little people. It is important to teach our young ones ways of dealing with their emotions through times like this week. Some strategies to help them manage: Continue to pack their lunchbox and fill their water bottle, so they are getting into school routine in preparation. Get good amounts of sleep propose a regular bedtime a great opportunity to teach planning, routine and preparation in the midst of uncertainty. Talk about acceptance of the situation firstly remember to validate their feelings and reflect on how they are ok to feel that way. Answer their questions truthfully but carefully. Move to looking for the positives in the situation, e.g. more time at home with their caregiver, added protection for health and safety, and more. Help them grow in this process of acknowledgement and balancing their thoughts. Some practical ways for you as caregiver to reduce exposure to events of this week: Remove news playing in the background on the TV in the living room, and keep updated through checking on your phone or TV when your children aren’t around. Speak positively and reflectively about the situation. Be aware of other adults you are talking with in front of your children, and the themes of your discussion. Stay safe this week, our thoughts are with all who are in lockdown and those affected by the fires. If you would like more information on supporting yourself or your family please contact our friendly team on 08 9301 5659 or [email protected] Bec Southwood Occupational Therapist

04.01.2022 Arche Health has been awarded the ‘Lead Agency’ role of the Cannington headspace Centre. During the development of headspace Cannington, we will be designing ma...ny aspects of the services, and of the establishment, with and around young people. Therefore, within this process, we hope to gain more understanding of mental health in our youth, in the areas in which headspace centre will service. After careful consideration following preliminary feasibility study, we have identified a suitable site among 2-3 options that we have short listed to begin concept design. In line with the City of Canning Standards of Provision: community service buildings like youth service centres are accessible via public transport or non-vehicular transport and that they are designed and fitted out to be comfortable and safe for young people to use. The property that’s shortlisted is located on 1468 Albany Highway, Cannington. We want to hear from people aged between 12-25 years, so we can better identify what would work well, and where the gaps lie, in regard to accessing mental health and well-being. We’re excited to move into the next phase and encourage passionate young people to get involved. If you are aged 12-25 years please fill out this survey and help us support the design of the centre. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2SKZSSM

03.01.2022 Less than 2 days now until a day full of fun! This Thursday, 10th September, will focus on R U OK? that will include an inflatable Gladiator and Samurai, dunk tank, Wildcats Basketball clinic and loads of marquees. A great day to focus on an important message and question - R U OK? and how we can help others.

03.01.2022 Time is running out....last chance to help support a worthy cause. All donations are greatly appreciated.

03.01.2022 DANCE SHOWCASE TICKETS When are tickets on sale? Tickets will go on sale on Monday 31st August at 4.00pm - We will post the specific link on Monday.... How much are tickets? Tickets are $15 per person occupying a seat. How it will work with COVID restrictions? This year, you will buy a ticket, not a particular seat. Lumen Christi College can only offer limited tickets per show as we need to be socially distanced within the theatre. When doors open, you will select seats with your party, leaving adequate space between those around you. How many tickets can we buy? We ask that you please take the smaller audience size into consideration and not bring large groups of people. We would hate for families to miss out entirely and have made a suggestion of two (2) tickets per dancer. Please note: ensure you buy tickets early to avoid disappointment. Once tickets are sold out, Lumen Christi are not in the position to issue more. We thank you for your understanding and cannot wait to finally get on that stage! Mrs Lockyer & Miss Brealey
