25.01.2022 Do the best you can with who you are, where you are and with what you have. You will figure out the rest as you go

23.01.2022 You are loved

21.01.2022 We can cultivate inner peace by choosing where we direct our attention and energy. Expending mental and emotional energy reacting to something (or someone) over which we have no control only drains our fuel tank. Learning to focus inward and support ourselves helps build our sense that no matter what happens we will be ok.... What could you let go of that would bring more peace to your inner world?

21.01.2022 I wish to express appreciation for all the interest in our humble little service this year. We are full up with bookings for the rest of November and the herd will be taking a break throughout December and January. I have put my heart and soul into establishing Thrive along with hundreds of hours and a substantial investment in becoming certified and insured in equine assisted psychotherapy.... My aim has always been to provide an ethical, professional and unique mental health service. Your support and interest in our first year of operation is deeply appreciated. Apologies I am unable to take any new bookings for the rest of 2020. Many thanks, Maria and the Thrive Herd Squidge, Pixie and Hal

19.01.2022 Life is full of challenges. Things happen that are outside of our control and throw curveballs our way. No matter what happens, we always have the power to choose our attitude in any given set of circumstances.

15.01.2022 How are you practicing self care and self compassion this weekend? How are you practicing self care and self compassion this weekend?

15.01.2022 Letting go is a process. One that requires a conscious decision to no longer allow hurt and pain from the past to live in the present. When we continue to relive painful memories, we can get stuck in a loop of negative feelings.... This can lead to depression and long term health problems. Whilst the journey of letting go can be challenging, you don’t have to do it alone. Here are a few tips to help you release old hurts so you can move forward: Seek support - talking to someone you trust can help release stuck feelings and work through unfinished business Take care of yourself - prioritise your health by eating well and doing some exercise you enjoy Develop empowering rituals - learn to meditate for a few minutes each day. Buy a new journal and keep track of your healing process Give yourself time - grief is a normal process. Honour all the emotions that arrive as you let go of the past Treat yourself with compassion and don’t listen to people who tell you to just get over it. Your timeline for healing and letting go is uniquely yours. You are not alone

15.01.2022 I completed my equine therapy certification with the Equine Psychotherapy Institute and this post articulates why horses are such great partners to work with in the therapy process. Equine therapy is a unique alternative to room based therapy and provides the opportunity to build a relationship and partner with horses in the healing process. So very grateful for all the wisdom horses offer humans if we are open and willing to learn

14.01.2022 The weekends seem to fly by in the blink of an eye! A quick self check in can be a helpful way to start your day by bringing awareness to your thoughts, feelings and needs. Here are some questions you may find helpful to start your day with:... How am I feeling at the moment? What thoughts am I offering myself? What do I need right now? (e.g. coffee!) How can I support myself today?

13.01.2022 Horses are experts at regulation. When a human’s nervous system is ‘dys’regulated, being around a calm horse can actually bring our heart rate and blood pressure down. This means horses have the ability to co-regulate humans. Pretty special huh ... During and after sessions, most people report experiencing a calming effect from being around the horses and learning how they calm themselves using their breathing and seeking support from each other. It’s not unusual for kids to feel very sleepy after an equine assisted therapy session. This has a lot to do with having to be ‘switched on’ in a learning environment all the time (e.g. school) and also the tech driven world we live in where devices are always in our faces. Regulation is the foundation to our ability to survive and thrive

11.01.2022 We’ve all been on the receiving end of unsolicited advice. When we’ve opened up to someone to seek support and they seem compelled to tell us what they think we should do. That immediate leap into problem solving mode.... When they miss hearing and feeling what we really need. Giving advice to someone when they are struggling can be very unhelpful. It can be damaging and ultimately disempowering... I am a firm believer that we all have the ability to navigate our way through life and find our own answers. When someone seeks support, what they really need is for us to hold space for them and help them find their way. As a therapist, it’s my role to support you in your journey and to hold a non judgemental and safe space. It’s not my role to give you unsolicited advice or tell you how you ‘should’ live your life. It’s amazing how quickly you can find your inner compass when you feel safe and supported A quick tip when someone comes to you for support or to ‘vent’: Check in with them about what they need. Ask How can I support you right now? If people want advice they will ask for it. Usually what they need is for you to just be there and honour their experience https://www.newyorker.com//this-is-what-your-unsolicited-a

10.01.2022 This quote resonates so strongly with me. The world seems to continue speeding up when what the human soul really needs is to slow down. Our levels of stress and anxiety are driven up by a society where there is constant pressure to be doing, doing, doing.... Spending time in nature and with horses provides a space for people to slow down, breathe, ground and find a sense of peace and calm. I believe that when we learn to find peace within ourselves, we contribute to the world becoming a more peaceful place

09.01.2022 Morning Mantra: "If you get tired, learn to rest, not to quit." Quitting is the easier thing to do. Seeing something through, reaching a goal, staying the cour...se is much harder. If you are going to quit anything, quit procrastinating, quit making excuses, quit waiting for everything to be perfect, and quit quitting. It's Okay to WANT to quit, just don't do it. Rest instead. You got this. #BeWillingToRestInstead #BeHappy #BeHorsey #BeHippie #HorseHippie #MorningMantra #InspirationalQuotes

06.01.2022 Words escape me at the moment with Covid throwing spanners in Christmas holiday plans for many of us. Hope you are all doing well out there and that you are able to spend the holiday period with those who are near and dear to you

05.01.2022 Horses can offer safe sensory and somatic experiences. Just the presence of a calm and naturally attuned horse helps to co-regulate and nurture our entire wellbeing.

04.01.2022 We start each equine therapy session with an awareness practice which helps us to arrive in the here and now. To be present. To tune into our senses.... To feel calm and grounded. When we breathe and ground ourselves, we become aware of the connection between our feet and the earth. Bringing awareness to the ever present support provided by the earth beneath us. When we find this place of connection and feel peace within, we can imprint this on the earth everywhere we go. Walking as if our feet are kissing the earth

04.01.2022 Horses offer us the wisdom required to step out of survival mode and learn to thrive Equine assisted therapy supports children and adults to grow in a range of areas including: Assertiveness... Confidence Developing and maintaining relationships Emotional awareness Empathy Impulse control Problem-solving skills Social skills Trust in others Trust in self Perhaps the greatest gift horses offer humans is a sense of peace and calm

02.01.2022 Another hat falls prey to Pixie She has always had a thing for playing with straw hats. Just like humans, horses have a need to play and have fun in their lives.... As a new week begins, consider how you may be able to include play in your day

01.01.2022 Lest we forget the sacrifices made by men, women and animals for the freedom we enjoy in our beautiful country Australia We will remember them

01.01.2022 How do you monitor your internal battery level? Making self care a priority supports mental, emotional and physical health.

01.01.2022 Such a beautiful and meaningful poem I’ve read this a few times to absorb its powerful message. Are there longings, yearnings and regrets you could let go of in your life?... Things that turned out not to be right for you at all. Things that don’t belong on your path in this life. Holding on can become a habit. A security blanket. How would it feel to embrace letting go? What would it mean for you to clear out the mental and emotional space these things occupy? For me, I believe clearing space supports me to be present and grateful in my life as it is today. Something to journal upon this weekend I think
