25.01.2022 Congrats to Alex on his competition yesterday! With an almost last minute decision to enter and with a slight shift to his programming, we used this comp as an end week training session, with the goal of getting a 537.5kg total. Giving him the total he needed to qualify for Australian Powerlifting Union Nationals. And that he did! Going 8/8 (deciding not to attempt his final deadlift), Alex secured a PB squat of 195kg, 117.5kg bench and a 225kg deadlift. Massive congratulations Alex.

25.01.2022 First time testing his lifts and Paul is on Finishing this lifting cycle with a massive 200kg deadlift!!! Watch out Alex Le and Richard Reid, Paul is coming for you both!

25.01.2022 Thought the Ravi and Joan outdid themselves with their pink outfits, and then Judy turned up.

24.01.2022 High Plank with Shoulder Taps. Another great plank variation that works your core . Keeping the trunk stable whilst moving your limbs is key to good core strength. This is a great addition to any program or as a warm-up before your heavy lifts. https://thrivept.net/exercis/high-plank-with-shoulder-taps/

23.01.2022 Pistol squats are a very challenging exercise. One way to progress these is by using a suspension trainer. Suspension trainer pistol squats are also great lower body exercise for when you really want to work your legs but have limited equipment. ... Challenge yourself and give this one a try.

23.01.2022 The kettlebell b-stance romanian deadlift is a great exercise to target your hamstrings and glutes. You can also use a dumbbell for this exercise. And since it is working one leg at a time, you don’t need a lot of weight. If you want a hamstring and glute burn. Try this one out! This and more on the Thrive PT video library: https://thrivept.net/exercises/

23.01.2022 Great lunch today with the crew at our favourite local, Manolo’s on Botany . Beautiful people, beautiful food and was surprised with a beautiful belated birthday cake!!! #squad #friendsthattraintogether

You can show your support by donating to her fundraising page. https://www.onefootforward.org.au/fundraisers/AliReid

19.01.2022 Adding the bosu ball to the suspension trainer jack knife, pushes this exercise to the next level! I’ve added this to my own program. Once you find the jack knife a little too easy, there are ways to keep making it push you!

19.01.2022 great suspension trainer exercises to work your back have been added to the video library. A row and a reverse fly. Because of the need to lean back, these exercises are a great way for you to also focus on bracing your core. The further you lean, the harder it becomes. Start higher to begin with and as you feel more comfortable, lean more. https://thrivept.net/exercises/suspension-trainer-row/

19.01.2022 Judy and Karen AKA Fuelled by Coffee are all set for lift-off! Here they are with a massive 185kg deadlift. They are looking to lift more at The Strength Syndicate charity deadlift competition. Come on down at 10.15am tomorrow to watch them lift!

18.01.2022 New workout now live on the blog! HOME WORKOUT 8: SUSPENSION TRAINER. The suspension trainer is a great piece of equipment. There is so much you can do with it! It is also easily packed away into a small bag, which means you can take it anywhere!... As soon as gyms were closed in March due to Covid-19, I purchased a suspension trainer to use at home and with my clients. Many of my clients now have their own, and even with gyms been reopen, most are still enjoying their home workouts. Try this one out for yourself! Link in bio.

18.01.2022 Massive congratulations to Edwina today! Making a competitive comeback after a 3 year hiatus. A perfect day going 3/3 on bench, which saw her finish with a 53kg lift. An amazing performance today Edwina!!!

18.01.2022 Richard is building his lifts back up! Like most people, Richard spent months away from the gym due to #covid19. We developed a plan based on the minimal equipment we both had available. Coming back to the gym, there was some strength lost, but not as much as people might expect. Richard was able to do enough at home and in the park to keep most of his strength. ... Here he is with 2x120kg bench, the best his bench has been in over 12 months. .

17.01.2022 All the colours of the Thrive pink rainbow. Courtesy of Judy Luyt's wardrobe. I think she’s sorted with training tops for quite some time.

15.01.2022 Hanging leg raise a challenging core exercise for you to try! Grasp a pull-up bar or handles with your hands shoulder-width apart and with an overhand grip. Tuck your pelvis under and brace your core. Bending at the knees, raise your legs until they’re at 90 with your torso, or a little higher. Bring your legs back down and repeat. https://thrivept.net/exercises/hanging-leg-raise/

13.01.2022 My good friend Kath has just recently started training with me. Kath is in her late 70s and was starting to lose her mobility and strength. She came to me to help build that back up. Here she is deadlifting 5x30kg! But this isn’t her biggest win though. Kath’s biggest win so far is that she can confidently do things she was starting to feel like she was losing, like the ability to go up and down stairs and getting up off the floor. ... Sometimes the smallest of things are the biggest of wins.

11.01.2022 Judy and Karen are now in training for tandem deadlifts! . They’ve signed up for a charity event being held by The Strength Syndicate. 120kg never felt so easy!

11.01.2022 10 suspension trainer exercises are now up on the video library! There’s so much you can do with this versatile piece of equipment. Including this great upper back and shoulder exercise, called the Face Pull. Upper back exercises are tough to do when you’ve got limited equipment. But the suspension trainer has got you covered.

11.01.2022 There’s been movement on the Lifting Ladder! This week Debra took out the top spot for bench with a massive 83.5kg bench! Just edging out Ali. Deb loves bench, and with being able to lift that amount of weight, we can all see why! #girlswhopowerlift #howmuchyabench

10.01.2022 HOME WORKOUT 7: BARBELL COMPLEX For this workout you will need a barbell and a small amount of weight. If you don’t have a barbell, dumbbells or kettlebells can be substitutes. A complex is a series of exercises performed one after the other, using the same equipment and same weight for all the exercises. All reps of one exercise need to be completed before moving to the next, and you can only put the equipment down once all exercises are done.... In terms of weight to choose, base it off your weakest exercise. When in doubt, err on the lighter side; you can always increase your weight next workout. For this barbell complex, perform the following exercises for 5-10 reps each, for a total of 5 rounds. You can put the bar down between rounds. Front Squat Squat Thruster Romanian Deadlift Bent-Over Row Push-Ups This is a great short and sharp workout that will get the blood pumping and your muscles burning! Finish with the Core Finisher (previous workout) for a little extra work and burn! https://thrivept.net//06/07/home-workout-7-barbell-complex/

10.01.2022 Great day out with the crew for The Strength Syndicate Cystic Fibrosis ACT charity deadlift day where over $8k was raised for the day! Karen and Judy lifted their epic target of 200kg and personally raised $800 for a great cause. Watch their awesome lift here: https://youtu.be/ugQSg-HEMq4

09.01.2022 The hamstring slider is an intense exercise to work your hamstrings and the best thing about this one is that you don’t need any equipment; just a smooth floor and socks! If you think your hamstrings are up for this one, give it a go! https://thrivept.net/exercises/hamstring-slider/

09.01.2022 King of the Deadlift is about to become King of the Curl. #kingravi

09.01.2022 Powerband Spanish squat. A bodyweight exercise that is not only used for knee rehab but is a great exercise thar targets the quads. The technique on this one can take a little getting used to. Head to the Thrive PT video library to read up on the technique cues and then test this one out for yourself. https://thrivept.net/exercises/powerband-spanish-squat/

07.01.2022 3 year training anniversary with this legend today! Kerri came to me to optimise her health. She had never played sport before nor had she been to a gym. Little did she know that 2 years later, at the age of 50, she would be competing in powerlifting. Kerri’s commitment to her training is to be admired. She’s worked hard to achieve the results she has. She is a true champion. ... Happy PT anniversary Kerri!

06.01.2022 Bec is back to repping over with this stellar 4x105kg!

06.01.2022 On Fridays we Flex!!!

05.01.2022 More suspension trainer challenges! Adding instability to the standard push-up gets the core working a lot harder. If you’re a weapon at standard push-ups, look to increase the difficulty of the movement instead of adding more and more reps. ... Give this one a try!

05.01.2022 Sarah with a PB squat today of 75kg!!! Such great lifting!

04.01.2022 Sarah finishing her Australian training with some of her best ever lifting. 3x55kg squat! Now off to the UK for work. And of course Sarah has already looked in to local gyms to keep the gains going whilst she is away. #strong #safetravels #adventure

04.01.2022 Edwina Barton is competing right now! Making a competitive comeback. You can watch the live stream here.

04.01.2022 When the gyms shut down over 12 weeks ago, I went straight online and bought myself a suspension trainer. You can do so much with this little piece of equipment. It is also small and easy to pack away. Ive added 3 suspension trainer exercises into the video library. Including this killer bridge. This small movement really gets the hamstrings burning. Check out the video library for more exercise ideas. There’s over 300 exercises available. ... https://thrivept.net/exercises/

02.01.2022 Over 15 years ago I decided to change careers. From working as a public servant to becoming a personal trainer. I remember some of my work colleagues being in shock that I would move from a stable, well paid, secure job, to that of a personal trainer with its early starts, late finishes and unstable income. But what I was moving to was my passion. I knew I wanted to work with people. I knew that helping people with their health was a great way to enable them to live happier ...and more fulfilling lives. This was something I wanted to dedicate my life to doing. It brings me great joy to see people finding a love of strength and fitness that surpasses the physical. I love seeing people become more confident within themselves, pushing themselves to do things that they once thought were impossible. Giving them mental strength. Giving them purpose. Giving them joy. I love bringing people together from all walks of life. Seeing them build friendships. And in turn, helping build a caring and supportive community. Tonight I was awarded a Rotary Vocational Excellence Award. I’ve won many of my own sporting medals over the years, but this award surpasses them all. I feel extremely honoured.

01.01.2022 Beautiful day out in the Canberra winter today. Helen doing a full body suspension trainer session with great technique and strength. The suspension trainer is a great piece of equipment that you can use just about anywhere. Something small you can pack in your luggage for when you are travelling (now that travel restrictions are easing!). Over the next few weeks I will be posting up a number of suspension trainer exercises that you will be able to try for yourself at home or away.
