25.01.2022 Simple things in life are the best & while Im totally committed to individualising therapy for you and your child, BUT I love the idea of community participation for all with all needs in a social situation developing skills, achieving success together with fun exciting different people. So for littlies this is a perfect activity - get you friends, neighbours together threading - modify difficulty thick, thin string, big small holed beeds, eye hand focus & coordination, in the midline two hands using multiple fingers (in hand manipulation- not just one index finger driving an app) and you get to wear it! How cool! (mind the quick shot of model with no make-up )

25.01.2022 There is so much fun to be had it's overwhelming. It is so important to build strong memories of achieving something 'tricky' and getting a chemical hit (in the brain) of pride after the children get something to play with... these soft snuggly friends. When I produce the 'demo' of what they're doing...the look of shock 'Finona, I can't'. When we break it down into steps, help them to use their 'ninja focus' to push through all the steps with us by their side...a precious memory is made to support resilience in the future. #resilience #mindfulness staying focused on task at hand #occuptionaltherapy act of doing while engaging in talking therapy FB: @thrivtherapy32

24.01.2022 Have a great rainbow zebra kind of day! Open your eyes and mind to the world #occuptionaltherapy Week (last week) #learn #play

24.01.2022 Made gluten free playdough for little man with severe wheat allergy.. Oops Fi wrong animals.. Stay tuned for post at www.thrivetherapy.com.au How does sensory play support our kids sense of calm and relaxation in this busy routinised..awesome world #thrivetherapy.com.au #relaxation

23.01.2022 Flexibility of thought and ideas is a life long skill that needs continually developing. As adults and kids we are so bombarded that we cognitively reduce everything down to a few options. When another possibility comes by its hard to flexibly shift. Drawing is a more abstract 2d version of play and while technique is first needed - have motor accuracy, shape practice, and play thinking.. then your imagination is limitless. Here working on technique and representation - this can be a flexible/ creative leap for kids as they stick to a model they know (the center guy). Working on developmental drawing skills (pre prep)....on their way. #prepreadiness #development #learning #occuptionaltherapy

22.01.2022 There is a way to build on your childs writing abilities...by having fun. Whether its an unstructured task, building creative, logically sequenced stories (beginning, middle & end) using play. Or structured, the nuts and bolts of writing sentences (structure, focus, motor planning letters words with a paint brush)..it all has to be fun! Here I have created large silly sentences #occupationaltherapy Grade one engaging in writing #creativity

21.01.2022 Some pre prep groups start next week! Email, text, ring if you eant to discuss if suitable for your child.

21.01.2022 If your kids are calm and happy, having focused fun in the green zone, try and do the same...it diesnt matter if that extra slice wasnt made or if the quilt on the bed needs an iron..just have fun !!#christmas #mindfulness

20.01.2022 Pretend playing a sequence with a child.Trying to build in socal skills - greeting another child, asking to play and then modelling the two characters taking turns at having a slide. A step forward is if they imitate your higher level play..However dont despair if your doing this at home and they go back to simpler one step play such as one person climbs to the top. We are wired to want our experiences to be comfortable and a child will play at the developmental level theyre at. But continue to support broadening their horizons by modelling and introducing an idea i.e. a rescue helicopter, theyre thought sequences and creativity will bloom #prep readiness #occupationaltherapy.

19.01.2022 Theres alot you can do! With you kids to get them prep ready #prepreadiness #occupationaltherapy

19.01.2022 Make it fun and kids will engage. This little person is starting to draw and think in representational pictures...there is more detail we see simple fingers and he is in a context - scuba diving under the sea with a harpoon looking for badies. Beginning of thinking in logical sequence stories using more abstract symbols (representational drawing) #childdevelopment #problemsolving #occupationaltherapy

19.01.2022 While were playing (with older kids), were talking about the brain and how we can make it work better, feel calmer and happier. By the way we arent all perfect ...under the googly eyes is a nostril nose and mouth with teeth. #learning #occuptionaltherapy #life

18.01.2022 Its tough being a caretaker of elves, they are so demanding! The parallel door takes them to the North Pole and is open all day and all night. It lets them come and collect what they need to make the presents. #christmas FB @thrivetherpy32

18.01.2022 So getting ready for Prep and while we work on focusing on pre-academic, pre-literacy and writing skills its still important to work on foundation drawing skills. We want the children to gain pleasure and be self-motivated to draw out their ideas into logical stories and ideas. Self-motivation -flow -happiness down regulates performance anxiety hormones and supports people to give it a go try something new. In the picture, the middle pink person was electrocuted by an electric jellyfish above a vibrant ocean of sharks, whales and jellies. #occuptionaltherapy #creativity #prepreadiness

16.01.2022 Working on resources for therapy better get back to or Puddy will do a paw job

16.01.2022 One guy in the blue zone, almost asleep..thinks hell try to eat a healthy banana to give him some energy and move into the green zone. The other guy is square in the calm green zone, happy, dancing and playing with his home made slime. #learning about arousal and emotions so you can feel calmer when participating in activities at home and school. Great picture my artistic friend. #occupationaltherapy @thrivetherapy32

16.01.2022 Up early making a proto-type for clients to do. I break the task down so they can see the steps in visual to help them stay focused anfmotivated to complete the task so they can play with him afterwards #prep readiness #occupational therapy

14.01.2022 Would your little person benefit from a pre-prep group before going to school next year?

14.01.2022 Happy kid thought: Drawing, meet them halfway, provide stamps as well as drawing material to help them complete in an age appropriate time frame. Drawing is a more abstract (2D) type of play - builds flexibility of thought & ideas. Kids should be encouraged to build a story around their drawing as they make the link between play (creativity/ideas) & language while conceptualising their thinking in symbols. #childdevelopment #participation #occupationaltherapy

13.01.2022 7 steps: cut, colour, fold, stick, eyes on,hold punch & thread tail. Could your little Kindy person, focus and complete all steps in one sitting. #prepreadiness #learning #play #attention #occuptionaltherapy

13.01.2022 This guy needs a Mrs Claus. Even though the children are tired, if you make the activity so motivating, they are willing to over come the challenges of sitting and focusing to complete a multi-step sequenced task. To thread (complex 2 handed in-hand manipulation task), to paste and finally to play with him....Ticks alot of boxes to help the child gain experience in building logical thought sequences. #occuptionaltherapy #thrivetherapy32 #Christmas

12.01.2022 Its beginning to look alot like #Christmas

11.01.2022 You might as well have some fun this Christmas while your supporting you child in their Prep readiness skills. Encourage them to draw reindeers while practising their shapes. Shapes such as circles, squares, rectangles, triangles and ovals all make up the curves and corners of letters. Here we were aiming for oval bodies for reindeers and more detail in the santa body. Isnt this delightful. #occuptionaltherapy #Christmas #childdevelopment

10.01.2022 Australian 50 cents #christmas #childdevelopment

10.01.2022 Self awareness and then understanding that others have different likes or dislikes to myself. These activities support early understanding. Specifically that other kids at kindy or school probably have different likes and dislikes to me just like the characters I make to play house with. It helps children understand the character in their pretend play. When they take on the role of that character with support they are more able to engage in social dialogues between characters. Oh your very quiet Tom, everything ok? Use and build on their pretend play and their better social understanding of others

09.01.2022 Dino fossils have been found, can archeologist Russell collect fossilised pieces of dino ancestors from a rare breed deep in the Amazonian jungle...Gigantor Dino. Build in other mediums, fizzy bicarb and water rocks to reveal ancient old fossilised dinos (a variety that originally came from China) to help kids generate ideas that can be build into sequence steps. Allow the characters in the story to express how they feel as they try to precure fossils. If possible encourage kids to reflect deeper in play about why the character might feel that and what the character could try to overcome negative emotions using strategies (self-talk, mindfulness, movement, continue to do activity/occupation) to move through the emotion, and calm. learn through doing, participation #occuptionaltherapy #mindfulness #brain #learn

09.01.2022 Its roughnready ..made it! What problem is this ..Im the boss can I stop the wave of worry.. If I cant hold on tight were moving through the zones of regulation. Were awesome well make it out the other side (without reacting inappropriately) and well be so proud of ourselves. Term of therapy in a nutshell

09.01.2022 A childs brain is sculpted by experiences, brain networks are build. Before 5 years we need to give kids opportunity so they can activate these pathways, build stable neural networks and early readiness before the brain has reduced capacity and efficiently prunes away (use it or lose it). Its like the cats who were blind folded young - the neurobiological window for learning to see closed and when blind fold came off they couldnt see. Actively engaging in these types of activities builds stronger skills and routines of making and completing. Encourage your child to struggle through the tricky bits of the task because they get something to play with. Sustain strong brain neural networks for the future. #thrivetherapy32

07.01.2022 Would your little person benefit from a pre-prep group to get them ready for school?

07.01.2022 Strengthen brain signals, develop movement and touch memory. Drawing a picture of a person is building a whole bunch of learning (cognitive) experiences. If your child likes vibration try a vibratory pen to amp up the experience and increase the likelihood of you child drawing over and over again. Make a developmentally challenging activity so enticing that the hesitant avoidant child will pair their fearful (negative) emotion with happy confident emotion. Your there smili...ng, vibrant having lots of fun with this exciting activity ...that the child cant help themselves but try. Their emotions start to calm as they realise they can achieve. Its called Twinning in neuroscience land pair 2 emotions together..fire together..wire together and fearful emotion down-regulates ing likelihood of child engaging with you and activity. The brain is awesome! Kmart vibration pen 8 bucks. #children #learning #calming #mindfulness #occupationaltherapy

07.01.2022 It's beginning to look alot like #Christmas

06.01.2022 It started to rain and we all got wet, but didnt stop us from having a great time.

06.01.2022 Quick snap of #Christmas Cheer

06.01.2022 Doesnt matter if your out of practice and your Lemur is one of a kind. Its the act of making him, the steps (cutting, pasting), the thoughts as you make him...How your going to play with him? What type of lemur will he be? (shy, kind, a baddie, a goodie). So you can further build on your thoughts and ideas to make a story about him. This is pre prep, building 3d synapse connections in the brain for future learning and resilence. We want kids to build on logical thinking while being creative, role playing another character and building stronger social understanding of others. It all connects as your child is naturally growing their language reportoire across vocab, sentence structure and social concepts of self and othersgotta love childhood development#occupational therapy #childdevelopment #creativity

04.01.2022 Learning to try and read emotions, remember cant always read peoples emotions by looking at them..better to ask r u ok? but when helping kids to learn how to identify emotions , pictures of faces is a good start. Here we are asking kids to identify emotions and group them into zones of regulation. You can try (some children arent ready) to identify an incident when they felt that emotion in themselves, what happened? How did they resolve the incident? And what strategies or actions did they do to help your feelings get back to the green zone? #occupationaltherapy #selfregulation #play #move #learn

03.01.2022 There's alot you can do! With you kids to get them prep ready #prepreadiness #occupationaltherapy

02.01.2022 Crazy days.. A croc asking a snake if he wants to play

02.01.2022 Rice masterpiece completed independently in a fantabulous way by a 4yr old... #creative#thrivetherapy#occupationaltherapy

01.01.2022 Making then playing with what you make is cool! The more you do the more likely kids will push through and stay focused so they can finish and play. Colour cut & laminate cars and stick magnetic tape on the back so they stick to a whitboard, start them off...but get them to draw the roads. Add a deeper story line to the play. Where are they going? This little 4 year old person who struggled to focus on fine motor and pretend play tasks with prompting and support to laminate made his cars and then drew the park with a tall tall ladder and long long slide. #childdevelopment #brain #occupationaltherapy

01.01.2022 Konnecting to my kitchen... branching out from my small repoitoire into edible art... Just drying out coloured rice for a sensational creative cant go wrong abstract rice mural - taking the fear out of giving it a go! - moving away from thinking and enjoying feeling and being connected to the art and the people your with..while creating.. Kids we keep it fun in order to learn, grow and develop... #thrivetherapy
