25.01.2022 Wow! This is amazing! I hate to think of the cost involved, but it would be an amazing training tool for the bubbas!!
25.01.2022 No pics or video for this sessions with Q!! I left my phone home!! But look at that last 600! He was on fire and I left my phone home.... And forgot the password for Daniel’s phone...
24.01.2022 And of course more went wrong! He developed a bleeding ulcer most likely in his stomach as he started to show blood in his manure. So if you see any manure like these pics? Call your vet!! Lots of Ulcershield over the following weeks cleared it up, we were very lucky. To be continued... @ Ipswich, Queensland
23.01.2022 I get a bit of flack for protecting my horses by putting protective boots on them for training and on raceday. What’s common in Europe is deemed too ‘heavy’ or ridiculous by some trainers and jockeys locally. I can’t stress enough how important I deem my horses safety!! Since changing to the PE Air Cooled Super Lite Carbon Tech Racing Boots 2 years ago made by Premier Equine England my horses are protected with KEVLAR guards for tendons on the front and shins on the back! Hor...ses that are a bit young or clumsy gain so much confidence when they realise they are not hurting themselves anymore. Those that believe the pain teaches are not correct. For many it is a conformation issue, stride problems or even an unbalanced rider. Check out the weights of these boots! Barely more than a race plate!!! Certainly not heavy. And they do not absorb or hold water. And they certainly do not heat the legs either. These are a professional choice for racing trainers in the UK and a lot of time, money and testing has gone into making them right for racehorses. Time to step into the new millennium and out of the dark ages!!! #premierequine @ Ipswich, Queensland See more
18.01.2022 Swimming! Stage one in his exercise program to regain his strength, flexibility and eventually his speed! By now out float had been rebuilt with Q in mind and a lot of changes to ensure his safety. But that doesn’t stop me putting him in tendon boots with extra large travel boots securely taped over the top!! Every time!! Believe me when I tell you this horse will drive you crazy! You’ll need a psychiatrist just as much as he does before long! To be continued... #quattrofantasticogruenefeldnothdurft @ Ipswich, Queensland
17.01.2022 Gorgeous Flight this morning couldn’t have posed better if I’d tried! He looks amazing! @ Ipswich, Queensland
14.01.2022 And then things start to go wrong...we discovered that Q is allergic to antibiotics and he started getting colic. Again and again and again...we stopped counting after the 13th time we spent hours walking him. Dr Frank Low from Wests had to tube him twice and was available on the phone anytime we needed him. Dr Low is our regular vet and absolutely amazing. One of the most important thing for any horse owner to have is a truly good equine vet. Hardest part was having to administer pain killer and sedatives to a horse that is having its digestive system racked by colic. The combination is bad, very very serious. And through it all the leg was AMAZING! Healing beautifully, didn’t pop a single stitch! No infection. No lameness. To be continued... @ Ipswich, Queensland
12.01.2022 Flight had his last ride at home with Sage Weale a few days ago before heading of to his new home. Thank you so much to the awesome Sage Weale who we are lucky enough to employ here at Throw Away Thoroughbreds. Sage has done an outstanding job in her work with Flight, just as she does with every other horse she works with here. Always going above and beyond to give that extra well beyond 100%! Thank you Sage!! @ Ipswich, Queensland
11.01.2022 Missed the best bit!! Q is addicted to the sand roll!!
10.01.2022 We are very strict that our all of our horses travel with the protection of float boots! We have been proved right in this too many times with ruined boots and uninjured horses. But this video is probably the funniest horse getting used to them we have ever seen!! During ‘Flight’ now ‘Mr Fly’ going through his float training with us he of course had to get used to the boots. I did not know a horse could get its legs so high at a walk that he looked like some kind of mechanical spider out of a movie!! We love you Flight!
08.01.2022 This is LOVE! When a woman willingly shares her cookies with you, you know its love! Hannah and Flight (now Fly), bonding over the good stuff!
07.01.2022 Quattro Fantastico our little chestnut whippet showed us today that all this work is more than paying off. While he did not win and the comments made about his race show a true lack of knowledge of the real facts it was however a stellar success. He did not behave ‘uncontrollably’, was not difficult to restrain nor did he ‘overrace’. He and jockey Alex Patis did an outstanding job and we will happily see them partnered in future. A very energetic and barely breathing hard Q c...ame in from his race fresh as a daisy and ready for more!! Sadly the bad habits taught him in the past are still hindering his progress but we are confident that he is finally overcoming this and will soon shake the last remnants off. The final 600m of this race was really quite slow but he flatlined as per said bad habits and sadly lost the ridiculous 6 length lead he had built up!! He was amazing!!!!! This is the horse that caught the eye of Gai Waterhouse - he’s coming back! Finally. Video will be up soon! Go Q!! And thank you so much to Alex Patis for an amazing job!! @ Gatton, Queensland See more
06.01.2022 Fighting Heart has his first day back at track work after taking the year off the spend with Imy, it’s her first ride back at track work too. Q is in for his second run since his start at Gatton getting ready for another in a few weeks. The day went well but we had a mix up and no video!! @ Ipswich Turf Club
01.01.2022 It’s been a huge 8 weeks!! Injuries, new horses, Imy is back riding track and Sage is heading for her track license. Sebastian got his stablehands license. Beau has returned to full work successfully after his January injury and we nearly lost Quattro after he was injured and needed antibiotics and proved allergic! It has been a really intense couple of months but things are going great now, horses are ready for sale, ready to compete and ready to race. We’re all in need of a holiday and a load of sleep but at least all of the horses are fit and well! We’ll start posting again and catch you up as we go!
