25.01.2022 I was talking to a few of my students on the weekend about what I originally wanted to do as a career, and what I originally wanted to do was art therapy. When I graduated I wanted to go to university and for the rest of my life be able to help people through the power of art (yes it is a real job that you have to have a degree for). In the end the university that I was looking at didnt offer it anymore, so I went on to Art and Special Needs education and eventually I hoped ...to apply the principles of art therapy in my classes. After six months I left university I found that I was not enjoying studying Art as I wasnt as interested in art history, rather I was interested in how art stimulated the brain. So I changed courses and stopped painting all together. Two years later I was working full-time and studying full-time and I was extremely stressed, then one day I had an accident at work which ended up damaging the nerves in and around my spine among other things. Not only was this painful but as a result I became even more stressed to the point where I was physically ill just about every day for about 2 months straight and occasionally I lost all sensation in my right leg. It wasnt until one day when my partner suggested that I paint that I realised that I hadnt painted in years. So I painted an elephant in ridiculously bright colours and even though in the end I didnt like the painting itself, I felt better. Its funny how things come full circle and I am not a hippy out there person, but I do believe that art is a wonderful form of therapy for everyone! https://www.facebook.com//videos/vb.1051/643610412493392/

25.01.2022 I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Easter break . Sorry its been a bit quiet here of late but Im in the process of planning a wedding :) and helping my wonderful partner start up his brand new business and teaching on the side! I cant wait to get back into it after the break though!

24.01.2022 We will remember them. To the men, women and animals who have served and/or are currently serving, thank you for your sacrifice. Thank you for keeping our country safe and allowing us to live and in the free country that we do.

24.01.2022 So here is a big jump from that last picture that I uploaded and that is because I didn't take many photos along the way. I used to always paint over night and take the worst photos because they were always under average light and fuzzy so now I have made a vow that I will not do that so I can have better images to show you guys! As for the random line across the canvas that is masking tape, which is also the secret to getting straight and crisp lines in all of my paintings.

22.01.2022 Sneek peek of the final product! And I am in love with the colours! Also Ive been wondering for a while If I did a give away what should it be? Should it be a painting, or a spot in one of my art classes free of charge? Comment to let me know your thoughts. I am almost at 500 likes and will probably do it when I get to 700

22.01.2022 My wonderful students and their finished work

21.01.2022 And the finished product!

20.01.2022 While it looks like the sky is done it is less than half way there with 20 hours work so far.

20.01.2022 Merry Christmas all Here is the finished painting! I was unsure about the pastels that I had incorporated at first but I love that they were added.

20.01.2022 Some more progress pictures of the elephants. Did you know in mnay cultures its good luck if the elephants trunks are up? When I was in the Borneo jungle a few years back I was told this by a local tour guide as we could hear them calling in the distance.

20.01.2022 So today(, yesterday anddddd the day before that) I spent my time saving photos and editing them on my computer. And I had to stop when I came across this piece because this was one of my favorite pieces to paint.

20.01.2022 sunsets are some of my favorite things to paint and this painting was one of my first commissions.

19.01.2022 Close up of the dots so far. Eventually these dots will form a sun set over the ocean.

19.01.2022 Having a raging Saturday night finishing off the 6th background of the savanna Mother and Babies commission. What animals should I paint on this background? Not to mention that I am absolutely loving this airbrush! It has made my job sooooooooooooo much easier and my backgrounds look 100% better

19.01.2022 first layer of colour down

19.01.2022 starting on the water now that the sky for the most part is finished.... finally.

18.01.2022 I actually finished this painting agessssssss ago but I have been so lazy with uploading and have just honestly had a crazy year all round. This was commissioned for a nursery and after I thought it was finished we discussed the nursery colours and the client had chosen all pastel colours. While I loved the intense and vibrant colours I had chosen I knew that this wouldnt match what they had in mind so I took a bit of time to make adjustments to it to ensure that it was perfect for them! More pictures to come!

17.01.2022 One of the things that I have learnt about working with water colour is that the layering of paint is alot harder than that of acrylic. With acrylic you paint a base colour and then work through the detail and even though in many cases this still applies to water colour its much, much harder and unlike acrylic you cant just paint over your mistakes. But what I love about water colour is the fluidity of the paint and how it just spreads. If you choose to take up water colour painting there are several types of paint you can choose from. I choose to work with Dr. Ph. Martins liquid pigments and Artist Spectrum tubes. I love both of these products for their pigmentation and that they dont have a chalky finish.

16.01.2022 For most of my acrylic paintings I use two different brands of paint the first is Global Paints which I buy from Riot arts supplies. This I usually use for my backgrounds because it gives me a finish thats between a gloss and matt. The benefit of this finish allows the top layers of paint really stand out on it because I can choose either matt or gloss paints which will stand out against the background. The second brand of paint I use is Jo Sonjas and these come in smaller tubes but are a great brand to start learning with especially if you dont want to constantly mix colours. These tubes are available in a wide variety of colours and I usually buy these from Spotlight or Riot. I also like these because they are very smooth and highly pigmented.

15.01.2022 So I havent posted in almost a year now because lots of crazy things have happened, the main of which was that ive been helping my partner open his business while working as a fulltime teacher. Ive also shaved my hair and donated it to wigs for kids. But today was the first day in a long time that I finally got to get back to what I love most, and that is art. I hope you guys are surviving the heat wave and if you have any painting ideas can you please inbox me or leave a comment below as I am currently stuck for ideas!

15.01.2022 Going live for what feels like the first time

14.01.2022 And here she is! This is my newest Painting assistant, Matilda. Her specialities include keeping me up all night and waiting untill I start painting to tell me that she needs a nappy change. Excuse the hair this picture was taken at 2am after she decided she wanted a cuddle while I was painting. We are thrilled to introduce her to the world and Im keen to finally be able to paint again.

12.01.2022 Happy International Women's Day!!! I am so appriciate that the world is changing. I remember often being told as a kid no you can't do this, no you can't wear that you're a girl. When it came to choosing a suitable job I was even more swayed by people telling me that my choices weren't good enough because I was a woman. In saying this is am glad that this is changing for the better and that more young ladies are breaking glass ceilings everyday.

12.01.2022 Here are some average quality progress pictures of a painting that I am working on for a wonderful lady and her dear husband. When finished this peice will be hung in their nursery for baby Maxwell. I havent updated on here for a while now because I was busy baking my own little bundle of joy who came in to the world just over a week ago. Photos will be coming soon.

11.01.2022 Here is the start of one of my most painful pieces so far. In this section alone is 4 hours work!

10.01.2022 So I filmed my Q&A only to realise after how bad the connection was . This was pretty much what my face looked like when I watched it! Im going to film it again in the morning and upload it Thursday night so if you have any questions you want answered send me a message or comment on this post and hopefully this time technology wont hate me

09.01.2022 Here is a visual of how your strokes will come out when you use different paint brushes. Its important when you are doing any artwork that you consider the brushes you use. I rarely use artist quality brushes, sometimes I even use makeup brushes, however I always use a range of brushes for every artwork because this helps you create depth and variation of line.

09.01.2022 Finally! Here is a picture that I thought I would never upload. While this piece only measured 40 x 40cm it has probably taken me the longest to complete! Now to move onto the other 7 commissions I have lined up back to back. LOVE my job :)

08.01.2022 Some more progress pictures of the elephants. Did you know in mnay cultures it's good luck if the elephants trunks are up? When I was in the Borneo jungle a few years back I was told this by a local tour guide as we could hear them calling in the distance.

05.01.2022 And the finished product! Painting for a beautiful midwife who has worked extremely hard to help other people in her life.

04.01.2022 Here is the wonderful lady who commissioned this piece. Before it even began we sat down and had coffee and discussed what she wanted and she pretty much gave me free rein on the whole thing (which was awesome!). Even though this piece took well over 40 hours worth of work and many, many sleepless nights the look on her face was well worth it! Also Im sure she told me that it was supposed to go on a wall at a beach house, but somehow it ended up on her wall at home. I wonder how that happened! Also I am going to upload the picture of the final piece tonight at 6pm.

03.01.2022 Merry Christmas and a happy new year from my family to yours please stay safe
