07.01.2022 My uncle sent me a message yesterday and told me Do not eat meat tomorrow. For ordinary Buddhists like me, that was the small commitment to keep. Today is the 15th day of the holy month of Saka Dawa. This day of partial lunar eclipse marks the birth, enlightenment and parinirvana of the Shakyamuni Buddha. Now coming back to my uncle. Tibetan Buddhists believe that merits earned during this day and month are multiplied by several hundred thousand times (hence the act of avoiding meat). There could never be a better time than now to do prayers, engage in virtuous acts and be a better person.
