25.01.2022 Tourism Spending For a Rapid Recovery Media Release 12 November 2020 ... Comments attributed to Luke Martin, Chief Executive of Tourism Industry Council Tasmania ‘The Tasmanian Government has walked the talk when it comes to supporting our tourism recovery from COVID.’ ‘We welcome the record expenditure for Tourism Tasmania to invest in destination marketing and partnerships with our airlines to restore our visitor demand quickly, and ensure we can compete with other destinations across Australia. ‘It will be a bit of an arms race between the States over coming months fighting for their share of the domestic visitor market, and it is critical Tourism Tasmania has the resources it needs to maximise our share. ‘We welcome the additional funding being made available to the Government’s own critical tourism assets in regional Tasmania, including the Port Arthur Historic Site and the West Coast Wilderness Railway, who have been hit with revenue cuts, but must maintain their services as drawcards into regional Tasmania. ‘There is a lot of important investments earmarked in generational tourism infrastructure projects across the State, including improvements to Freycinet, upgrading the Lyell Highway between Strahan and Queenstown, developing the next iconic walk on the West Coast, upgrading the Airports, and the game-changing investment in Cradle Mountain. ‘These projects give tourism operators and investors confidence in the future while ensuring some of our most precious assets are able to cope with future visitor demand. ‘As Premier and Tourism Minister Peter Gutwein has had to make very some painful decisions over the past few months that have impacted severely on our tourism industry. ‘But today he has delivered for us, and has given us a platform to surge ahead over the next 12-months.’

23.01.2022 It appears Mayor Mick Tucker is pretty chuffed with his St Helens being named Tassies Top Tourism Town! Watch Win TV news tonight for a full report live from St Helens. 23.01.2022 TICT has this week written to all Tourism Accredited and Accommodation Star Rated Operators advising we will be waiving all 2021 Accreditation and Accommodation Star Ratings Renewal Fees for operators currently participating in the program. This is a significant and important decision for our organisation to remove one business cost for all our accredited operators as we work our way back together from the impacts of COVID. Tasmania has the highest rate of voluntary tourism ...accreditation and participation in quality assurance programs in the Australian tourism industry. This is something we can all be very proud of and is at the heart of our reputation as a quality, professional tourism industry. The TICT Board feel strongly that we do not want cost to be the reason for any of our loyal, committed quality tourism operators across the State to lose their tourism accreditation, and then not be able to access our industry programs and services when they are probably most needed. We also know as we continue to advocate for further government assistance and support for your businesses, we need to also look carefully at what we can do ourselves. We hope this small saving will go some way in alleviating cost pressures in your business, and ensure you remain committed as Quality Tasmanian tourism operators through 2021. This initiative is only possible because of the support we receive for tourism accreditation from the Tasmanian Government, through Tourism Tasmania, along with TICTs loyal and generous sponsors and preferred industry suppliers. 2021 Accreditation Certificates and Stickers will be distributed to all accredited and star rated operates from the start of December.

20.01.2022 One Tasmanian Tourism Conference spread across two days in two cities After a couple of false starts, TICT Is very pleased to announce the dates for the 2020 Tasmanian Tourism Conference!... Like all things this year were having to make adjustments and do things differently to give as many operators and industry stakeholders across the State the opportunity to be a part of our major annual industry event. We are splitting our program of speakers and topics across two days, in two venues, at both ends of the State come to one day or come to both! With two solid days of conferencing from 10.30am 5pm, the program will focus on our T21 Recovery Plan, the priorities for rebuilding our industry from COVID, and our long term aspirations for Tasmanian Tourism. This will be your chance to gather with industry colleagues to talk openly and frankly about the big challenges and opportunities we face as an industry. Of course we will also try and have some fun in the company of friends and colleagues because that is the Tasmanian Tourism way! As always, the program includes some fantastic networking events, with insightful industry working lunches and good fun evening cocktail parties. Due to social gathering restrictions, numbers are capped for both venues. Program and speaker announcements will be made in two weeks when registrations open, but for now, save the date and stay tuned to secure your spot. The teams at Country Club and Wrest Point are working hard to ensure the conference complies with all COVID social gathering requirements so we can gather together in a way that will be safe for us all. We know that after a long, difficult year everyone will welcome the opportunity to let their hair down and spend time with industry colleagues. PROGRAM LAUNCH & REGISTRATIONS OPEN SOON

20.01.2022 After many, many years of talk, Tasmania’s tourism and hospitality sectors are finally getting a Training Organisation truly their own! The Tasmanian Government today announced $1 million of seed funding to support the establishment of a new not-for-profit training organisation for the tourism and hospitality industries. The new Training Organisation is a joint venture between TICT and the Tasmanian Hospitality Association and will seek to establish commercial partnerships ...with employers across the two sectors to deliver outcome-focussed training. Importantly, the organisation will be owned and led by industry and a not for profit company focussed on delivering industry-led outcomes. This has been a long time coming, and today is the start of a rapid journey to have the organisation operating and delivering training to Tasmanian employers and tourism and hospitality professionals in early 2021.

20.01.2022 The Bass Strait Passenger Vehicle Equalisation Scheme is the Australian Government’s way of making the cost of taking your vehicle to Tasmania comparable to the cost of driving between Australia’s other States on the national highway. Introduced by John Howard, the scheme is the lifeblood of the Spirit of Tasmania service and our regional tourism industry. Over the past 6 months the Australian Government has saved millions of dollars from people not travelling across Bass S...trait. The Tasmanian tourism industry is calling for some of that money to be invested now to increase the scheme for a few months and make it free to bring your car to Tasmania. We know this will immediately trigger bookings, and leave more money in the pockets of our visitors to spend in Tasmania’s regional communities over the next few months. With our borders re-open to Victoria now is the time for the Australian Government to act. Are you in regional tourism? Work in our visitor economy? Like and share if you agree. Or contact your local Federal Members of the Australian Governent: Member for Braddon Gavin Pearce MP Member for Bass Bridget Archer MP Assistant Minister for Regional Tourism Senator Jonathon Duniam Senator Richard M Colbeck

08.01.2022 Celebrating World Tourism Day with the future of our industry Media Release - Sunday, 27 September While this year will go down as one of the toughest for Tasmania’s tourism sector, the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania is celebrating the future of the industry on World Tourism Day today.... Students currently enrolled in the University of Tasmania Tourism Graduate Course have been treated to a cruise on the Derwent onboard the iconic MONA ROMA vessel. TICT CEO, Luke Martin, said while the profound challenges over the past six months had been disheartening at times, the fact that so many Tasmanians see a bright future for tourism was a cause for optimism. It’s really tough in our industry at the moment and you couldn’t blame anyone working in tourism wanting to look for other opportunities. But right across the State we are seeing people stick with the tourism industry because they are passionate about what they do and they love being able to share what makes our State so special with visitors, Mr Martin said. The fact that hundreds of Tasmanians have signed up for this graduate course is a real vote of confidence and a sign that our industry is in safe hands with a bright future. These students are gaining new skills and getting ready to lead the industry for years to come. We wanted to thank the students and what better way than taking the MONA ROMA out on the Derwent. It’s always a welcome sight to see the MONA ROMA back out on the River, and reminding us there is light at the end of the tunnel. As an industry, we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors back to Tasmania and working with the students on board today, we look forward to growing the industry well into the future and overcoming any challenges that might come our way. #worldtourismday2020 #worldtourismday

06.01.2022 We’ve made a new mess. Come see it. Limited capacity. Pre-bookings essential. Details on the website.

06.01.2022 Borders Media Release 18 August 2020 Comments can be attributed to TICT CEO, Luke Martin:... Tasmanias tourism operators and their employees will be reacting to todays announcement with a full range of emotions, and we firstly encourage anyone in our industry who is struggling to come to terms with this news and what it all means to reach out for support. There is considerable business advisory and financial counselling support available to assist operators work through their immediate challenges, along with mental health support for those needing that assistance. These services are available now, theyre free, and the best thing every operator can do right now is ensure they have support for themselves, and their families. As an industry. we understand the Premiers rationale for making this announcement today. We still believe the right way to go is an expanding national travel bubble among States reporting none or very few cases of COVID, to compliment our local Tasmanian market. We struggle to understand why we now have to wait until December to open to States like Western Australia and South Australia who have effectively had no community transmission for months. We now look to December 1 as an essential deadline to reintroduce some level of interstate activity in time for our critical post Christmas summer visitor season. We welcome the Premiers announcement that he will invest in a strategy to further encourage Tasmanians to get out and travel over the Spring months Tasmanians have done an amazing thing over winter getting out and about exploring Tasmania. As an industry we are enormously appreciative of the efforts of Tasmanians to support our operators and our workforce. But there are many businesses and destinations across the State who have not benefited, and a voucher system targeted towards attractions and tour operators will be very welcome throughout Spring. In the meantime, theres always Spectra. And Hope.

02.01.2022 What exactly is the situation with borders across Australia? There is a perception some States are open and some are not across the country. Its not as simple as that. This is the current state of play across all jurisdictions. ... The Australian tourism industry continues to advocate for a strategic nationwide approach to elevating the countrys domestic border restrictions, starting with a travel bubble among COVID safe states.

02.01.2022 Regional tourism is the lifeblood of so many Australian towns and communities, and more 40,000 Tasmanians are directly and indirectly employed in tourism. That'...s why the Morrison Government has today announced a $150 million Regional Tourism Recovery Package. A $50 million fund will support the nine first and worst hit internationally exposed tourism regions across the country, and Tasmania will receive $13.5 million from the total $50 million fund. Tassie will also have an opportunity to share in the $100 million Building Better Regions Fund that will be dedicated to supporting tourism. This is fantastic news for Tasmania. The funding could be used to invest in securing flights to bring more travellers here, create new festivals and events that celebrate whisky, wine or wilderness, or use the funding to assist operators heavily reliant on international visitors to target Australian travellers. 01.01.2022 Economic results make tragic reading Media Release 2 September 2020... Quotes can be attributed to Luke Martin, CEO, Tourism Industry Council Tasmania Tasmania must avoid economic self-destruction in prolonging our self-isolation from the mainland any longer than is absolutely necessary. Todays horrific national economic figures, coupled with increasingly worrying results being released by some of Tasmanias largest economic drivers and employers, is all pointing to a very bleak 12-months ahead. History shows when the nations economy hit the skids, we cop the brunt soon thereafter. In this case the nations economy is officially in its worst state since the depression. This prevailing notion by some that Tasmania can continue to live in some self-supporting economic bubble is completely out of touch with the trade and visitation dependent nature of our local economy and businesses. The fact is we must restore some sense of normality in our trade and visitor economy as soon as it is safe and practical to do so. With international borders set to remain closed indefinitely, we are confident we can rebuild Tasmanias visitor economy strongly and safely, with an expanding travel bubble with other COVID Safe states. Tourism will again be the engine room for the State economy, when we will most need it. But 1 December seems a very long way away today, and youve got to wonder what kind of outlook were going to be facing by then.
