24.01.2022 KRANK activities for teens should be a big hit Logan City Councils popular KRANK school holiday program returns for the forthcoming school holidays with the program featuring fun outdoor and indoor activities especially for teens. Youth activities, for those aged 12 to 17, include knee boarding, freestyle BMX, cooking classes and macram and jewellery workshops.... A range of activities for children aged 5 to 11 are also available but some are already near booking capacity. All activities are free or low-cost. KRANK was suspended for the last two school holidays but Council has been able to kickstart the program again by introducing enhanced safety and social distancing measures. All activities and providers will have COVID-Safe plans in place, in line with Queensland Health guidelines. City Lifestyle Committee Chair, Councillor Laurie Koranski said the return of the KRANK school holiday program was another step forward in the citys recovery from the effects of the pandemic. Our KRANK program is always popular and books out very quickly so it will be great to see it back these school holidays, Cr Koranski said. It caters to a wide variety of interests and the activities are free or low-cost which is important for many families these days. We ask people to register because some spaces are limited. Booking early is the best way to ensure your teen doesnt miss out on the fun. The KRANK school holiday program will run from Saturday, September 19 to Sunday, October 4. Bookings are open now and an online activity guide is available for each day. For more information visit logan.qld.gov.au/krankteens

I would also like to pay tribute to the hard working Council staff who help community groups to meet and work together. 21.01.2022 Last night I was curious about what is at the Waller Park Family Fun Fair. I took my wife and young son there for an hour and we enjoyed ourselves a lot. The staff at the fair were friendly and COVID procedures are in place to keep everyone safe. For those who miss attending the EKKA this year, the fair will quench your appetite for EKKA food and rides. ... Keep an eye on their Facebook page for opening times and for what they have to offer.
21.01.2022 Many organisations are getting into the EKKA spirit and Lighthouse Care is one of them. I know many families are doing it tough so get on down to their shop in Hillcrest and grab a show bag and affordable food.
20.01.2022 Mayor appeals for safer roads The City of Logan Mayor Darren Power has called on motorists to put road safety first to reverse the citys tragic road toll. Twelve people have died on Logan roads this year, seven more than the same time last year. ... This comes despite reduced traffic volumes as a result of the COVID-19 lockdowns earlier this year. Cr Power said Queensland Road Safety Week (QRSW) is a good time for drivers to reflect on their behaviour. Its tragic that 12 lives have been lost in Logan this year and unless attitudes change that number will rise, Cr Power said. Im urging everyone to think about how their actions on the road could affect their lives and the lives of others. Through the challenges of COVID-19, most Logan residents have done the right thing by the community. I hope that civic-mindedness continues on our roads. City Infrastructure Committee Chairperson Councillor Teresa Lane said bad behaviours such as speeding, tailgating and running red lights are responsible for a large portion all serious crashes. Unfortunately drivers with bad habits and bad attitudes increase the likelihood of a crash and its time to call them out, Cr Lane said. As part of QRSW Transport and Main Roads is encouraging drivers to Sign up for Road Safety by putting up a sign sharing a road safety message, then taking a photo and sending it to [email protected]. SafeRoads4Logan is a partnership between Logan City Council, the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Police Service, Queensland Health and RACQ. SafeRoads4Logan is designed to keep our roads, roadsides and road users safe. Its vision is to create a city where everyone can travel in safety, respect the rights of others and behave responsibly. Visit logan.qld.gov.au/saferoads4logan-2 for more information on helping lower our road toll.

16.01.2022 Logan development information at your finger tips City of Logan residents are being kept at the forefront of development news across the city thanks to an online service that has proved to be an instant hit. Logan City Councils online Development Enquiry Tool was launched in July, joining other features within the award-winning Logan PD Hub.... Logan City Council Mayor Darren Power said the new Development Enquiry Tool enhances Councils customer service. "It puts development information at the communitys fingertips and increases transparency about development in our city," Cr Power said. "It is a great addition to Councils popular PD Hub which provides all the necessary planning and development tools in one easy-to-use platform. Council thanks the State Government for providing the innovation funds ($50,000) and giving us the opportunity to improve the services we offer our community. Queensland Treasurer, Planning Minister and Member for Woodridge Cameron Dick said the Innovation and Improvement Fund has helped councils across the state improve their planning systems. Efficient and improved planning systems to enable appropriate development will be even more vital as we move forward with our economic recovery, Mr Dick said. We know there will be tough times ahead for the Queensland economy, and thats why we are delivering a comprehensive economic recovery plan that focuses on creating jobs and getting Queenslanders back to work. The annual Safe City Logan Community Survey will be open from August 17 until September 13. ... Residents can access the survey via a link on Councils website, logan.qld.gov.au City Lifestyle Committee Chairperson, Councillor Laurie Koranski, said understanding community concerns was vital in developing public safety strategies. As part of the survey, we will be keen to understand community sentiment on Councils various safety programs, Cr Koranski said. The survey will also seek feedback from residents on how safe they feel in various places in the City of Logan, as well as their suggestions on how to improve the safety of those public areas. I encourage everyone to take part and to help us form a good understanding of the safety requirements of our Logan community. Participants must be aged 12 years or over. For more information on the survey, phone Councils Community Services Branch on 3412 4608 or email [email protected]

14.01.2022 I started the Movember thing without the intention of completing the challenge but in the end I did leave the mo alone for the full 30 days. It was a mixed bag of whether or not people thought it suited me and I had comments such as it makes me look older to it would suit me if a mo was in fashion. I personally hated it as did my wife and I am glad it is gone as it was quite itchy. It was all for a good cause in the end. ... As I was not initially committed to completing the full month challenge, I did not register for this event, however the below link takes you to the Movember website and you can donate to the cause without having someone to allocate the donation to. https://au.movember.com/donate This is a great cause as men find it tough to talk about their mental health, prostate cancer and testicular cancer. I hope the men reading this post keep an eye out for one another and check their bodies for signs of the above mentioned cancers and see their doctors if they find any thing suspicious. All the best to everyone and perhaps next year everyone will see me sporting another mo!
13.01.2022 Southern Stars Baseball Club is one of many sporting clubs located in division 7 and they are recruiting players for the upcoming season. Get on down there this Saturday or send an email to the address on their page.

12.01.2022 Just another reminder that on Monday a number of streets in Boronia Heights will be affected by water disruptions for hydrant replacements. On Wednesday a number of houses in Forestdale will also be affected by the same reason as above. Residents affected have received letters in the mail and there is a frequently asked questions sheet with the letter. ... Thank you in advance for your understanding of this important matter.
12.01.2022 This morning I walked through Boronia Bushland Reserve with my colleague Natalie Willcocks Councillor Division 11 Logan City Council. I was able to show Natalie all of the nice things in the park especially the new toilet block. During the walk, we were pleased to see two of our hard working council rangers patrolling the park. They were there in response to complaints from residents about illegal dirt bike riding in the park. We had an opportunity to quickly chat with the rangers about their shiny new bikes and how they patrol the parks in our city. The rangers do a fantastic job and if you see them in the parks, give them a friendly wave
11.01.2022 This is an article that the State Member for Logan Linus Power wrote. Linus mentions how well the community reacted to the recent COVID-19 situation that Parklands Christian College endured. I know the school is not specifically in division 7, however many people from division 7 were affected by this situation, whether it was because they have children who attend the school or they shopped at locations the young ladies attended whilst COVID positive. The people of Logan reacted appropriately and got tested as requested to ensure everyone in the community remains safe. We are an example of what a community should do in times of uncertainty.
11.01.2022 If anyone is interested in having your say on how your Council engages with the community, please click on the below link.
10.01.2022 Time to be water smart again Logan Water is urging residents to do their bit to conserve water as summer approaches. Bulk water provider Seqwater has increased production at the Gold Coast Desalination plant to keep the South-East Queenslands dams topped up after the combined level fell to 60 per cent.... Infrastructure Committee Chairperson Teresa Lane said residents have been doing a good job of keeping water use down but it is time to step up our efforts. There are simple things we can all do that make a big difference, Cr Lane said. Checking your household plumbing for leaks, taking shorter showers and not watering in the heat of the day are ways you can help. Logan residents have a great track record of preserving water so its important we keep that up, especially as the weather warms up. The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast a wetter than average summer and water restrictions wont be considered until the combined dam level falls to 50 per cent. But that is no reason for complacency, Cr Lane said. Water restrictions can have a big impact on our lifestyles so its important we do everything we can to prevent them from being necessary. Seqwater recommends a daily usage limit of 150 litres per day/per person. For handy tips on how to save water visit logan.qld.gov.au/water-and-sewerage/water-saving-tips-home To play its part, Council has created a dedicated drought management team responsible for ensuring we are as water efficient as possible, as both a provider and user of drinking water. Council also regularly inspects its network of water supply mains, pump stations and reservoirs for any leaks.

07.01.2022 Logan looks to live well again Logans popular active and healthy program, Live Well Logan has re-launched following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions. The program will embrace enhanced safety and social distancing measures in line with Queensland Health regulations.... City Lifestyle Committee Chairperson, Councillor Laurie Koranski said while the first half of the year had been tough, there was much to look forward to for the remainder of the year. Keeping fit and healthy has never been so important and we know regular exercise can have a profoundly positive impact on mental health and well-being, Cr Koranski said. Since we made the decision to cancel the program in March in line with health directives at the time, we have worked hard to put together a new program that allows people to maintain a healthy lifestyle in a safe way. As we approach the end of winter and with the days getting warmer, the timing to enjoy this fantastic program couldnt be better. The active and healthy lifestyle program will feature more than 120 activities across the city. 07.01.2022 At short notice I was able to arrange for a few of my colleagues with their families to attend the Waller Park Family Fun Fair located in division 7. 06.01.2022 Today I was honoured to attend the graduation of the year 12 students at Browns Plains State High School. It was an emotional and wonderful experience for all in attendance and the performances were superb. I wish every outgoing year 12 student in Logan all the best. 04.01.2022 Phones set to ring for communitys feedback on Council services Two phone surveys will be conducted in coming weeks to give Logan residents an opportunity to comment on their satisfaction with Council services, facilities and customer service. The 2020 Logan Listens: Residents Survey will be broken into two separate research pieces, with 800 residents set to be asked about services and facilities, and another 800 residents to be questioned on their thoughts about customer se...rvice. Logan City Council City Governance Committee Chairperson, Councillor Lisa Bradley, said it was important that the organisation and elected members heard feedback directly from residents. Community consultation is a top priority for us as councillors and a major focus for how Council operates, Cr Bradley said. The Logan Listens survey helps us understand how the community ranks the importance of the services delivered by Council, as well as their satisfaction in how those services are delivered. This helps us with planning and decision making for future priorities, and also where we need to make improvements. If we hear feedback that something is particularly important to the community, then we should be focusing on that. IRIS Research will begin phoning residents from Monday, September 21, and will call both landlines and mobile phones to capture feedback from a range of demographics. The surveys will take about 10 minutes to complete. I encourage residents to take the time to complete the survey if they are called as the information will be invaluable for making the City of Logan a better place to live, Cr Bradley said. The survey has been conducted since 2010. Council will publish the 2020 survey results on its website when they become available.
02.01.2022 This meeting should be of interest to anyone who lives in Hillcrest. I will be there and I look forward to seeing all attendees there.
02.01.2022 Around a month after my election, I spoke to some residents who were using the dog park in Middle Park in Boronia Heights. The residents said they would like a second gate in the dog parks for safety and convenience. I asked council officers if this would be possible and if it was a good idea. I received an answer of yes to both questions and the gate installations would be put on a list of future projects. Recently the gates were installed and today I inspected the new gat...es. Thanks to the members of the community who suggested this sensible project and to the council officers for assisting me in improving the dog park. This is a great outcome and I hope to get plenty more of the small things fixed for the community as per my campaign pledge. If there are any suggested improvements anyone has not told me about, please do not hesitate to email me on [email protected] and I will look into your suggestions.
