22.01.2022 In the Butterfly Room we have been learning about winter through science, craft and even sensory experiences! The children have loved jumping in the puddles and exploring mud! Through discussions some of the children expressed that it snows during winter and that they wish it would snow in Timboon. Unfortunately we are unable to bring the snow to Timboon, instead we made our own! The children decorated icy-pole sticks with paint, sequins and glitter and then they were made into snowflakes. & when your creating "snow", you have to build a snowman! The children also created a snowman by pasting white circle onto paper to represent their snow man and added accessories such as buttons, scarf, hat and body/facial features. We are loving winter so far!

21.01.2022 Some of the children of the Butterfly room have put together a video to share and encourage everyone to get involved in Soapy Hero training to keep our families, friends and members of our community healthy and top stop the spread of dangerous infectious diseases. First of all, you start by washing your hands with water then rub them together with soap until youve sung happy birthday twice. Rinse off all that soap and wash Gerry down the drain then dry your hands and your Soapy Hero training is complete! Staying healthy starts with your hands, become a Soapy Hero today.

18.01.2022 Across the centre this week there was a variety of learning experiences to foster awareness of oral and dental health as part of Dental Health Week. In the Caterpillar room we learnt a new song, focusing on the importance of brushing our teeth. We shared discussions and learnt about healthy foods vs unhealthy foods for our teeth. To extend on this further we created a poster. The children stuck down foods that make their teeth feel happy and foods that make their teeth feel... sad. This was a great group activity for the children to share their thoughts and ideas with others. As a group in the Butterfly room we discussed healthy and unhealthy foods, which foods we can eat every day and which foods are only sometimes foods. The children found this topic interesting by verbally expressing their thoughts on which foods met which category and developing their knowledge on food to help them move forward and make good food choices. The children participated in a painting experience, using a tooth brush to paint a tooth template on paper to ensure that they "brush" their tooth all over. As a group we explored a fun tooth decay science experiment to learn what sugary foods and drinks can do to our teeth. We started off by soaking 3 eggs in a cup of milk, water and juice. We discussed what the children thought would happen to the egg, some children thought the eggs will crack and break, others thought that nothing will happen. The results demonstrated what sugary drinks, such as juice, do to our teeth. The shell of the egg that was soaked in juice started to peel and flake off once we brushed it and the eggs that were soaked in water and milk did not change.

18.01.2022 The children in the Butterfly Room have been busy creating their very own "Story Time Rock" by painting a picture of their imagination onto their rock. All the children came together in a small/large group to share their rocks with each other and created a story using all of our rocks together. The children used their imagination to create a story, expressing happiness and humour throughout their story telling to create meaning and story tell.

16.01.2022 Today the children of the Butterfly room worked hard to fill in our winter digging holes with dirt to create a scooter/bike track along our "mount." Together we worked as a team to dig and pour the dirt into our holes to achieve our new track.

16.01.2022 The children in the Butterfly room have been exploring their outdoor environment while going on a colour hunt this week! This involved the children to search around the yard, working together as a team or by themselves to find objects of particular colours and drawing the object that they found onto the paper. This allowed children to explore and investigate the outdoor environment, communicating with other children as they worked together to achieve the task.

15.01.2022 As we know the 2020 Olympic games are unable to go ahead due to the health pandemic around the world at this point in time. The children in the Butterfly room showed an interest in watching previous Olympic videos and we decided to create our own mini Olympics! Our mini Olympics involved the children participating in a variety of physical activities such as cycling, sprinting, shot put, relay races, hurdles, sack races and a bean bag toss. Each child participated and compete...d against one another to win a gold medal. Each child received a gold medal for participating in our mini Olympic games and were able to take their medal home to share their achievement with the family!

14.01.2022 The children in the Caterpillar Room have been displaying great interest in building and constructing, when using a range of different resources across their indoor and outdoor environments. Construction provides children with opportunities to use trial and error while manipulating and investigating. Its great to see the enjoyment the children receive from their creations while recognising their individual achievements

14.01.2022 Is anyone cutting down trees and able to supply us with some small off cuts? We would be much appreciated, they will be used in our sensory garden revamp and our loose parts boxes.

12.01.2022 This month in the Caterpillar Room the children have all had the opportunity to create a painting on the easel. The babies got to use their fingers instead, exploring their sense of touch. The older children used their imagination and verbal interactions to explain their paintings. We had dad and l fishing in the boat and Pitts the guinea pig just to name a few of the great examples.

11.01.2022 The children in the Butterfly room loved making their very own rainsticks! The children enjoyed the creative freedom of being able to decorate their rainsticks and especially loved using them to make music and explore various sounds!

11.01.2022 To add to the craziest that is going on around the world at the moment during the health pandemic, on Tuesday we decided as a centre to add to the craziness by having a crazy hair/hat day! This was loads of fun, the children all came with crazy coloured, decorated, spiky hair/hat! We all cant wait for the next dress up day at daycare!

11.01.2022 This month we are participating in "Nude Food November" Nude Food is simply food that is not wrapped in foil, plastic or commercial packaging. We encourage all families to participate in our November Challenge by implementing "Nude Foods" into each child's lunch box to encourage healthy eating and doing our bit for the environment Lets become a Nude Food Warrior together!

09.01.2022 Time to be S U N - S M A R T It is that time of the year again where your child/children are required to wear a wide brimmed hat while outside and sunscreen is required when the UV is 3 or above. The centre will continue to provide sunscreen for all children unless your child requires their own sunscreen due to skin sensitivity. ... Please ensure all hats are clearly labelled with a name.

09.01.2022 This is the rubbish that we accumulated over 4 days this week. Lets see what we can do to reduce the amount of rubbish from our lunchboxes. As a group educators have introduced the 4 R's (reduce, reuse, recycle & rethink) and the importance of reducing the amount of rubbish we have and why we need to put our rubbish in the bin and also why and what recycling means. We will continue to explore this topic throughout the month, rewarding childrens effort of implementing the 4 R's into their daily routine. At the end of the month we will again collect rubbish to see the amount of rubbish we have reduced throughout our lunchboxes.

09.01.2022 Over the past few weeks the children in the Butterfly room have been participating in several science experiments to extend on the childrens current interest. The experiments involved sinking and floating with different objects, creating and understanding the process of rain and creating fire works in a cup. Each child were able to participate exploring and express their curiosity by asking questions through the experiment to further their learning.

09.01.2022 F R E A K Y - F R I D A Y ! The children dressed up in a freaky, funny kind of way for freaky Friday, simply just because we love dressing up and what a fun way to end the week! We had some many different characters from witches, pirates, skeletons, football players and princesses! The children in the Butterfly room created skeletons out of cotton wool tips and created a witch potion! ... Each child created their own witch potion, which was made from cornflour, green water and special witch ingredients (bugs, googly eyes and pom poms). The children used a spoon to combined all the ingredients and some even used their hands to mix, feel and touch their witch potion! The Caterpillar room children looked great all dressed up in a variety of different costumes, some wacky and others freaky! We shared conversations around what we dressed up as, while also enjoyed doing some dancing in our lovely costumes. We cant wait for another dress up day!

07.01.2022 International MUD Day! The children in the Butterfly room LOVE mud! Although today is International Mud Day, we have been celebrating and enjoying the mud for the past week by jumping and splashing in muddy puddles, exploring our senses by squishing and squashing the mud with our hands and fingers and using mud during play to represent objects of the childrens imaginations such as mud stews, cupcakes and pies! International Mud Day involves children and early childhood professionals all over the world celebrating nature, outdoors and mess by getting really muddy and that is what we did!

06.01.2022 Muddy Monday in the Caterpillar room!!! Yesterday, Monday the 29th was International Mud Day. A day in which is aimed to connect children around the globe, by playing and getting messy in the mud! Due to the sunny weekend most puddles had disappeared, which was abit disappointing for our Mud Day. So we implemented and made our very own mud! The older children helped stir in the ingredients, which was cocao powder, flour and water. We added farm animals to the mud and set it u...p on the table for all to enjoy. All children expressed interest in this mud, all having a play in the mud with their hands. Some getting messier than others. When outside we found a tub with dirt and water in it, similar to mud. We provided the children with the opportunity to further use their senses to explore this. A lot of pouring, scooping and transferring took place. We all had a great day exploring with the mud and experiencing the benefits of messy play! See more

04.01.2022 Lets all get involved and moving

03.01.2022 Today we had a wonderful performance visit us called "Shape Station". It was a story based around a whimsical exploration of shapes and colours. Both rooms enjoyed this performance, asking questions, solving problems and using their imagination to explore the story. We are so glad to finally have an incursion back at our Centre!

02.01.2022 Good afternoon families, over the next couple of weeks we are going to be revamping our garden once again.. Unfortunately our vegetables in the garden beds did not take, we hope to replace with new soil and start again. Another idea we would like to implement is placing more smaller scale gardens around the yard. We are asking families to take a look around your garden shed for any items we can recycle or re purpose for us to use as a pot, old wheelbarrow etc :) Below is some ideas.
