19.01.2022 This year due to COVID restrictions traditional celebrations for NAIDOC week have been postponed until November, and are likely to be a little different. However, Koori Curriculum feel that this years theme "Always Was, Always Will be" is so important and can act as a meaningful provocation for learning with children. So in the spirit of NAIDOC, Korri Curriculum have decided to hold a virtual art competition for early learning services. Blue Mountains Family Day Care will be submitting an artwork with educators and children to work together on a collaborative belonging tree. This is our input to help build the belonging Tree.

09.01.2022 The last two weeks we have been busy learning about birds and looking at what birds we have in our own backyard. We made bird feeders, learnt the 5 little duck song using stick puppets, we looked at bird pictures using visual aids to help us identify local birds and used our hearing to help identify them by what sound they made. We learnt that birds fly, lay eggs, live up in trees, make their own nest using stick and leaves . They eat worms and seeds and mummy birds feed her baby birds. We saw magpies and cockatoos flying around and heard the chickens and roosters from our neighbours backyard. Once it stops raining we will be hanging our bird feeds around our yard .

05.01.2022 There is no need for your child (under 7) to be learning numbers, colours and how to write their name. In fact, if you force it - it could have negative impacts.... Literacy and numeracy is a wonderful thing for the brain, but it doesn’t really meet the needs of a 2-7 year old child... So what do they need instead? Nathan Wallis helps us understand what the latest research says about young children's brains and literacy, numeracy, free-play and child-led environments here: https://parenttv.com//why-your-child-needs-a-positive-dis/
