Roofing Plumbing Drainage Gasfitting Distributor and Service Agent for Sanden heat pumps. These help to reduce the carbon footprint Gareth was a service Operations Manager for another company until Mid-2018. He decided he no longer wanted to shave so he founded Red Beard Plumbing. Now they have just passed 1000 jobs and have 3 vehicles on the road. Gareth recalls his experience working for an existing customer in the Pacific Square shopping centre. In repairing the water leak it solved a problem for the neighbouring property which their previous plumber had been unable to fix. From there, the Bromley property group has become our biggest customers and we have completed over 100 jobs worth over $150,000.

22.01.2022 I always feel fortunate having the opportunity to meet with the amazing local business owners that we have here on the Gold Coast and catching up with former su...rfing champion and all round good guy Kevin Barr, owner of Barz Optics is no exception! Kevin grew up in Kingscliff and moved to Canberra where he owned a number of water sport, surf and tourism businesses before deciding to head north again as a manufacturers agent for all the big brands including O'Neill, Vans, the iconic Oakley Sunglasses and more. Having such a close relationship with the large manufacturers gave Kevin an insight into the inner workings of amongst other things, the sunglass industry. Armed with this valuable knowledge in 1996, Kevin was able to locally develop and manufacture a sunglass goggle, designed to protect the eyes against pterigiam - a debilitating condition to the eyes caused by exposure to the elements including sunlight exposure. Barz now produce a large range of adventure, sports and outdoors protective sunglasses. They were first in the world to combine bi focal and photochromic lenses (lenses that change from clear (Cat0) to dark (Cat2) depending on the light and in a range of lens colours and specialise in polarised, bifocal, and prescription lenses. Barz also private labels to some well known big brands and garner their technology from in-house R&D as well as sourcing all over the globe for specialised products. Ongoing access to product technology has meant that Kevin was able to manufacture to a new market and has also developed BZ Optics - bi focal, photochromic sunglasses designed for the cyclists, runners, drivers and other sportspeople who require sporty shades but also need, protection and better vision. Barz hasn't gone unnoticed, winning an Australian Marine Industry Award for the most innovative exported product and was also nominated for a global Dame Award for design and innovation. Check out the huge range at www.barzoptics.com or www.bzoptics.com
22.01.2022 Love it when I get to speak to local businesses who think big and act big! 20.01.2022 Here’s another fabulous example of a family-owned business going from strength to strength. Meet Casey Cooper, Managing Director of Cooper Communications, a f...amily-owned business that has embraced the continuous and exciting advancements in technology for the past 22 years exceptionally well to their advantage. Back in the day, Casey’s father Steve was a Telstra (Telecom) technician/systems engineer and after Telecom privatised much of their business, he decided he would do his own thing by starting Cooper Communications with Casey’s mum Debby by his side taking care of all the administration. Casey has worked in the business for the past 15 years, starting from the bottom up he began as a technician, cabling, networking, sales and now as GM works alongside his little brother Hayden who looks after the technical side of the business. Cooper Communications prides themselves on educating their customer to give them the power to make informed decisions regarding the technology in their workplace. They look after all things tech for the SME, from information technology, phone systems, data networks, cloud technology, software, hardware, security and IOT AND everything is onshore...so no annoying call centres! Technology moves rapidly and Casey thrives in this space, their team are regularly updated through training programs to maintain consistency and knowledge to ensure they are constantly bringing cutting edge benefits to their clients to make their workplaces more efficient and safe. One of the Cooper Communications real points of difference is their independence; having no alignment to a specific brand allows them to focus on working for the best interests of their customers instead of their suppliers. Their autonomy allows Cooper Communications to provide the best solution for their clients instead of pushing a brand for their stakeholders. Casey isn’t all about tech however, and if you have ever swung a golf club there is a fair chance you may have bumped into him on the course as he holds a fairly nifty handicap and if he’s not playing golf then he's’ quite possibly planning his next European vacation. If your organisation needs to improve anything to do with electronic communication then you’re best to contact the team at Cooper Communication. www.coopercommunication.com.au We believe that strong local communities are built on strong local business! 19.01.2022 Here is another great example of a well established and locally owned business doing great things in the community. Debbie Labes The Beauty Spot Cosmetic & Ski...n Clinic in Burleigh has been offering full service beauty therapy for nearly 10 years and and has been a beauty therapist for just under 30 years, with her first studio in James Street she has built up a large base of loyal referral clients over this time. Debbie moved from a career in the arts to becoming a beauty therapist, a transition that makes sense when you see her beautiful studio and consider the work that she is able to undertake for her clients. Debbie's experience is valued in the community as an accredited ITEC trainer, allowing beauty therapists and cosmetic tattoo artists the accreditation. The Beauty Spot specialises in cosmetic tattooing for eyebrows and in an industry that is fairly unregulated it's important to note that Deb holds a full body art license. The Beauty Spot specialises in cosmetic tattooing for eyebrows which includes ombre and microblading but also offers the full suite of beauty therapy treatments including hair removal, body sculpting, teeth whitening, skincare, waxing, needling and skin conditions. Even more exciting is the upcoming launch of Lure a locally sourced organic certified, vegan range of skin care products she has developed herself through years of training and understanding what works and what doesn't. These include treatments for all hormonal imbalances throughout all stages of life. Debbie puts a lot of emphasis on not only ensuring her clients get great results and have an amazing experience in her studio but they also have a safe and professional experience. Her full insurance and compliance means you can rest assured knowing you are in very safe hands. If you need a brighten up, a makeover, or just a little pampering then visit www.thebeautyspot.net.au and Debbie will be sure to look after you

17.01.2022 Do you know the importance of a healthy poo? This is a serious question that is asked by naturopaths, its an indication of the health of your gut and an unhe...althy gut will affect your overall health. If your poop could do with a bit of a tune-up, the solution could lie with goodMIX , a range of hand mixed, highly nutritious naturopathic blends, full of seriously good ingredients that are sure to get your bowel moving. Just ask Jeanie Mcclymont , naturopath, owner and founder of goodMix Superfoods, she is passionate about gut health and has heard more poo stories than most of us. goodMix, started 6.5 years ago and like so many businesses, was created by accident. Jeanie worked in a health food shop and noticed there was limited variety in healthy breakfast solutions, so she asked the owner of the store if she could make up a mix based on what she knew would be highly nutritious and beneficial to the gut. It wasnt too long (and through a bit of trial and error) her mix became the top selling breakfast product, primarily because her customers were seeing real results in a matter of days and it tasted delicious! The success of the brand continued to grow, with the help of her partner they started selling into local markets around the Gold Coast, producing everything at home, initially from the kitchen, then soon moving into the refurbished, customised garage. By now Jeanie was selling into multiple markets and production was continuing to increase so quickly that the number of semi trailers parking outside the home became a little too much and they decided to move into the current factory 5 years ago. One of the really cool things about this company is their ethics and values, all the packaging and labelling is done by the House With No Steps employees, Jeanie swears by the amazing attitudes, work ethic, attention to detail and all round happiness her people have and its great to be able to give back in such a meaningful way. goodMix are also very environmentally conscious, they are currently in the process of making packaging improvements to their range making them as sustainable as possible. So what makes goodMix so good? Get to enjoy mixes of Chias, Almonds, Pepitas, Coconut, Buckwheat, Flaxseeds, Sesame seeds, Goji Berries, Raw Cacao Nibs, Puffed Amaranth, Puffed Millet and more with no added sugar or sweeteners, artificial colours, flavours, preservatives, or colours. Theres no GMOs, or animal derived products, are exceptionally low in chemical residue - using organic where possible and Blend11 is certified low FODMAPso why wouldnt you? The team at goodMix are so convinced about the benefits of their functional foods there has already been one in vitro fermentation trial done on their BlendII by the CSIRO and potentially a clinical trial on how it can help with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) which is pretty exciting (you can go to Jeanies blog post for more info https://www.goodmix.com.au/blend11-csiro-research-findings/ Most of all Jeanie loves knowing how many people she has helped through her research and learning from her customers has helped her in applying different products to different health needs. Her products have got people off their medications, even some across the globe now in the USA, something she finds extremely satisfying. Jeanie never meant to be a business owner, at heart she is an artist, who paints, draws, plays piano and guitar, fits in a bit of surfing here and there or just hangs out doing a bit of gardening when she can. When youre on a good thing such as goodMix though, you just cant help working on the amazing products! Find them at local markets, health food shops, independent grocers, Amazon Prime or online at www.goodmix.com.au #guthealth #localbusiness #burleighbusiness #ibs #healthyfood #vegan #goodpoos

11.01.2022 I found another fabulous Gold Coast business doing things a little bit differently. Meet Mark McFadyen, Director of Lepack a local company providing breakfas...t packs and snack packs to a myriad of B2B clients across the country. Originally from North Queensland, Mark is an experienced business operator having run crocodile farms out of Malanda in the Atherton Tablelands - 85kms from Cairns as well as Cattle Farms, he saw the opportunity to purchase LePack 18 months ago and moved himself and his two teenaged daughters to the Gold Coast for a sea change. LePack has been running for more than 10 years, their clients include those in the tourism industry, from tour groups to hotels, accommodation facilities, schools, corporate and event planners. LePack provides these industries with their pre-packed grab n' go meals that include all you need for breakfast or a snack on the go, making the challenge of feeding large groups of people a simple solution at a very cost-effective price. When you look at the contents of the LePack packs they all contain well-recognised brands including Kellogs, Brookfarm Muesli, Carmens, Sunraysia, Just Juice and more with prices starting from $3.45 per pack. LePack eliminates the pressure of needing to provide food for their clients by offering the convenience of a wide range of pack solutions to suit their clients' needs, from savoury packs, oriental packs, kids snack packs, breakfast packs and gluten-free packs. Being nimble and local is a big drawcard when dealing with LePack, they have close relationships to their clients, are able to offer same day dispatch, are flexible with order size and have the ability to customise packs for their clients by mixing and matching products. Keep an eye out in the next few months as new products and packaging are released! If you are a business who needs to cater for groups of people and want a simple cost-effective solution then get in contact with Mark or LePack's operations manager, Brad... www.lepack.com.au We believe that strong local communities are built on strong local business! 11.01.2022 Ask Mick Brace, principle of Realty Blue how he got started in his hugely successful real estate career and you’re in for a funny story. Mick is as committed, ...tenacious and genuine today as when he was in 2008 and there is a lesson in his back story for all of us. Realty Blue literally started out of the blue, 12 years ago Mick was searching for a home for his family by door knocking on the streets of Burleigh and asking who wanted to sell their propertyto cut a long story short, he not only eventually found his home (which is still lives in) but also realised he loved real estate and was so awesome at meeting people and talking houses that he decided to get his real estate licence and start selling themimmediately. Mick leads his team of 23 staff across two locations one in Burleigh and the other in Mermaid Beach, judging by the growth of his business, the number of listings they have and the reputation he has built for himself, it’s obvious he’s definitely doing something right. 2020 was a huge year for Realty Blue and the Rate My Agent Awards with Mick personally taking out 5 awards including Agent of the year for Burleigh Heads, Burleigh Waters, #1 agent for Tweed, top 10 agents in QLD and top 100 for Australia. They also took out agency of the year for Burleigh Waters/Heads and Miami. So what do they do differently? Do business with them and you’ll notice their down to earth, honesty and professionalism, they are super easy to work with and are great value for money. Mick and many of the team are Burleigh/Mermaid residents, they are very active in the community, sponsoring a number of events including their own Realty Blue Swim Run and charity events. Realty Blue not only offer the full suite of residential services including sales and rental but also have expanded into commercial sale and leasing as an additional arm to their already large portfolio. If you are thinking about selling your home, commercial site or in need of a new home or business then get in touch with Mick and the team at Realty Blue and they will look after you and your family. www.realtyblue.com.au

05.01.2022 I recently met with the lovely and very professional Isht Singh, partner of My Infinity Business Advisers for a chat about what it is that they do to help their... people. Isht has been running his practice with his business parter Edwin Arenas out of the newly upgrade Miami Business Centre - Serviced & Virtual Office Suites and Showrooms for the past 2 years. Edwin and Isht had worked together for 12 years in a large corporate accounting firm before deciding to combine their experience and start their own practice. After arriving in Australia and completing a university degree in hospitality, Isht worked in a management roles in various restaurants and as well the the Star Casio, where he met his wife (who is also part of My Infinity Business Advisers). 04.01.2022 I got to catch up with Vishen and Shu, owners of DNA Signs, a great local business based in Currumbin but servicing all the way between Ballina and Brisbane. ...Vishen and his brother Shu purchased DNA Signs 3 years ago after a long search to find a business where they could work together and would suit both their skillsets. Vishen has extensive experience in data analytics but was tired of working in the corporate space and his brother Shu wanted to put his 13 years experience in graphic design to good use. DNA Signs design, manufacture and install signs for business shop fronts, digital printing, indoor wall graphics, banners, brochures and specialise in vehicle wraps for business, tradies and larger vehicles such as heavy trucks. They have been able to distinguish themselves as a company that offers a unique flare and feel to their designs and with his background in marketing he has been able to get a good understanding for their clients requirements. The Covid-19 environment has seen a spike in signage requirements as businesses enforce social distancing and hygiene regulations as businesses deal with the changes to the environment. DNA Signs only uses top quality products such as 3M, Orafol and Avery. The benefit of being a small company is their flexibility in being able to offer a personalised service with great turnaround times. If you are after a great local company who will help you make sure your business gets noticed with great signage then you need to get in touch with Vishen and Shu from DNA Signs. www.dnasigns.com.au
