25.01.2022 As a part of the Year 10 English course, the students are investigating graphic representations, visual literacy and the idea that "a picture tells 1000 words". Their excursion last week centred around this idea, visiting Gosford Regional Gallery, the Japanese Gardens and The Red Tree Theatre. We would like to thank these wonderful organisations for accommodating our students.
24.01.2022 The Year 10 students had a fantastic day out filming for IST. Some of our students showed such creativity and passion for acting and filming, and we had a lot of fun! The class was able to enjoy pizzas for lunch and explored the gorgeous Toowoon Bay to end the excursion.
23.01.2022 Today Year 9 explored local art displays at the Gosford Regional Gallery and The Red Tree Theatre. The Edawonga Japanese Gardens were also a hit, feeding the Coi fish and ducks. The visual arts on display were amazing and it was a great day out! We would like to thank both organisations for accommodating our students.
23.01.2022 TLK Youth College acknowledges Remembrance Day and would like to thank those who served, and continue to serve, our country. We are encouraging students to take this time today to remember those veterans past, fallen and with us still today. There is a live ceremony broadcast from 10.45am today with a minute silence at 11am, and our students will be taking this time to reflect and pay their respects.... Please see our photos below of students who made a wreath from their own hands, and then took the time to place a poppy on each cut out.
21.01.2022 Yesterday our Year 9 and 10 students spent the day at Toowoon Bay. The excursion allowed the students to enjoy a day of arts and science experiments, with a range of activities taking place. Students played with kinetic sand, bubbles, mini volcanoes and performed a range of experiments. For those who love to get creative, we supplied a range of paints and canvases, with the students creating some wonderful pieces.... We had a great BBQ, cooked by some of our amazing young people, and even enjoyed a swim!
20.01.2022 The Year 11 Geography students enjoyed their Ecosystems excursion yesterday, exploring our local lagoons and beaches. From looking at the coastal erosion at Wamberal to Copacabana lagoon, the class saw some of the incredible scenery that the Central Coast has to offer. The students enjoyed a delicious lunch at The Haven to wrap up the day!
19.01.2022 Today is World Teachers’ Day and it is the time to celebrate and thank teachers for their wonderful contribution. Teachers are one of the best assets that a school can have and today, we recognise the amazing teachers at TLK Youth College. Thank you for all of the work that you have done and continue to do for our students on a day to day basis.... We took a short break this morning to enjoy a lovely morning tea and read these beautiful cards from our students, highlighting their appreciation for the staff.
14.01.2022 This week, our students attended LOVE BiTES, a respectful relationships education program. LOVE BiTES aims to provide young people with a safe environment to examine, discuss and explore respectful relationships. TLK Youth College would like to thank the three facilitators from the day and it was excellent to see our students gain so much valuable information from the program.
08.01.2022 This week TLK Youth College has celebrated NAIDOC Week, which runs from 8-15 November 2020. Always Was, Always Will Be is the theme this year and acknowledges that hundreds of Nations and our cultures covered this continent. All were managing the land - the biggest estate on earth - to sustainably provide for their future. The Year 9 and 10 students viewed the Australian films In My Blood It Runs and Top End Wedding throughout the week. The students were able to look at theme...s like education in Australia and intercultural marriage, which brought on much discussion! Year 10 students have also been analysing and investigating Australian Indigenous literacy and they researched inequality within the Australian Aboriginal community. It was also fantastic for our students to visit the Gosford Regional Art Gallery this week and view the Aboriginal artworks.
07.01.2022 We love getting out and about with students to meet educational outcomes in a fun and unique way. Our Year 9 PDHPE students had a fantastic game of tenpin bowling yesterday and we are so glad that they could get active, even though the weather was pretty miserable!
05.01.2022 The Year 9 students had a wonderful experience visiting Blackbutt Reserve in Newcastle and Speers Point Park yesterday. Exploring the wildlife exhibits and nature walks at Blackbutt Reserve allowed our students to get out and about, and we enjoyed seeing animals like wombats, wallabies, turtles, peacocks, emus and koalas. It was a great morning! We ended our day with lunch at Speers Point Park, Lake Macquarie. The playground provided our students with a chance to have some fun and get active.
02.01.2022 The Year 11 Modern History students visited the Newcastle Memorial Walk last week. The Anzac walk was built to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli in 1915 and the commencement of steel making in Newcastle; it acts as a magnificent memorial to the men and women of the Hunter who served their community and their country. The class enjoyed the spectacular scenery and also visited Honeysuckle to have lunch.
01.01.2022 We are very proud of the students who completed the bushwalk through Bouddi National Park yesterday. Some of our students walked nearly 7kms through Putty Beach and to Maitland Bay. They were so determined and showed a lot of resilience. We enjoyed some beautiful scenery and the day ended with a BBQ and game of molkky. Please enjoy our video below.
