25.01.2022 Unfortunately, the Toowoomba Choral Society Youth Choirs holiday production of Disneys Tarzan has been postponed until later in the year. We cant wait to see what the amazing team will come up with when it hits the stage!

25.01.2022 Be Back Soon! Rehearsals will resume for all TCS choirs the week of Monday the 5th of October. https://youtu.be/a6K9J4G6pgM

24.01.2022 Urgent message from the President Dear Members and friends, It is with regret that, due to the rapidly changing situation associated with COVID-19, Toowoomba Choral Society Management Committee has decided to postpone the Choral Showcase concert.... Our priority is the health and wellbeing of our members, audience, musicians, volunteers and our wider community and, while we are naturally disappointed, we feel that postponing to a later date it a wise precaution. At last nights Management Committee meeting we also voted unanimously that * Starting immediately all Toowoomba Choral Society Choirs will suspend rehearsals until further notice. * Toowoomba Choral Society Choirs will NOT be attending the Qld Eisteddfod at Easter. As you will appreciate, we have not taken this decision lightly, but in view of the continuing spread of the COVID -19 and the increasing risk of widespread infection, we consider that this action is warranted. The health and well-being of our membership must be our first priority in the current circumstances. We fully appreciate that there may be some criticism of the decision to suspend rehearsals at such short notice. But we can only reiterate that our decision is to safeguard the health and well-being of our membership. The Committee will continue to update members in the weeks ahead, and rehearsals will resume when it is appropriate and safe for our members to do so. We will inform members of the resumption of rehearsals in a timely manner. To assist with the wider containment of COVID-19, it is important for all of us to continue to adhere to proper hygiene practises, such as: Wash hands regularly with soap and water, particularly before and after eating and after going to the toilet; Use alcohol-based hand sanitiser if soap is unavailable; Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of your elbow; and Dispose of tissues in the bin immediately. Further advice and information about the coronavirus is available on the Queensland Health website: https://www.qld.gov.au//conditions/he/coronavirus-covid-19 If you have any concerns about the Management Committees decision please feel free to email me at [email protected] Regards Thrse Lord President

22.01.2022 We are saddened to hear of John Clarke’s passing this week. John was a regular part of TCS musicals in the ’90s and amongst many stellar roles, played our original Javert in Les Misérables 1994, 1995 and 2002. He was a wonderful yet humble man. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.

21.01.2022 Last night the TCS Choir resumed rehearsals! We had a lovely time back singing together after such a long break. Thanks to the Toowoomba Anglican School for providing such an awesome space for us to rehearse in.

19.01.2022 Another great news story for Toowoomba Choral Society Youth Choir Holiday Production

18.01.2022 At the start of April, the Toowoomba Hospital Foundation contacted the Society to see if we had some hands free to sew much-needed face masks and headbands to help fight the spread of COVID-19. They supplied two patterns and were after 400 of each style of mask and 80 headbands. Deb and Bec got to work and rallied our costume team, who have been unfortunately unable to work on our shows due to the uncertain climate. Deb cut out the materials and delivered them to each team member at their homes with packs and patterns. The ladies worked steadily over a fortnight to deliver all of the requested masks to the hospital and a further 80 masks to taxi drivers in Toowoomba. Thank you, ladies, for your invaluable skills during these challenging times!

18.01.2022 A lot of our members have had long and distinguished careers in choirs - some started at school, some later in life and some had their very first experience with us in one of the three Choral Society choirs. When was your first choir experience - primary school, high school or adulthood?

18.01.2022 It’s your last chance to grab tickets for tonight’s performance, A Choral Celebration. We’ll see you there at 7 pm! https://www.trybooking.com/events/landing?eid=686583

17.01.2022 A Tribute to Wilma Schloss By Barbara Pampling & Fay Miller Wilma was the Toowoomba Choral Society accompanist from 1953 to 1958, until she left to work in Brisbane. Barbara joined the Toowoomba Junior Choral Society in 1951 and learnt piano from Wilma until 1958. Wilma returned to Toowoomba and married Arthur Schloss. They had four daughters, and she kept teaching piano and accompanying until well into the 2000s. She was a Life Member of the Music Teachers Association in 19...91. Barbara and Wilma formed a lifelong friendship and for over 40 years, Wilma, Barbara and Mavis Jackson met for lunch in town every Friday. Fay met Wilma, known then as Billie Sullivan, in 1955, while a student at Toowoomba North State School. Mansel Jones was the visiting choral conductor for the Education Department and Wilma was his accompanist. From there Mansel encouraged Fay to join the Junior Choral Society, where he was also the conductor. From family discussions, it then became evident that their common history went back two generations, to the Mutze and Muller families, who were both heavily involved in the orchestras of the region. In recent years, Fay deputized for Wilma at the U3A Chamber Choir, under the direction of Elaine Coates and Sue Rutter, where Wilma was their accompanist until quite recently. Our deepest condolences go to Wilmas family and loved ones.

17.01.2022 We’re ready for the eleventh of December - are you? Tickets are selling fast! Grab yours at https://www.trybooking.com/BNBRB

17.01.2022 Karcher Big Bird Yellow Industrial Vacuum, dearly loved by the Society, is currently missing in action. If you know of his whereabouts please let his loved ones know. Please come home Karcher, we need you and you cannot be replaced in our hearts (nor by our bank account!). Photo for attention purposes only.

16.01.2022 When you just need to sing.

16.01.2022 After a tough year filled with interruptions, disappointments and worries, we are ecstatic to announce our return to live performance, ‘A Choral Celebration’. Held on the eleventh of December, the Toowoomba Anglican Centre’s Millenium Room will be filled with the sound of the Toowoomba Choral Society Choirs. Tickets, more information and updates are on this event page.

Please contact your choir for more information or send us a message if you wish to be involved. We will be adhering to a COVID Safe Plan and look forward to hearing and seeing everyone again. Although the major production for this year, Priscilla: Queen of the Desert, has been postponed to 2021, our Toowoomba Choral Society Youth Choir Holiday Production, Tarzan, began socially-distanced rehearsals over the June/July school holidays and hopes to be on stage for all to see later this year.
