10.01.2022 PLEASE DON’T PANIC BUY Following confirmation that Victoria will enter a five-day lockdown from midnight this evening, unfortunately supermarkets are alre...ady starting to run out of some essential basic items again due to unnecessary panic buying. Please don’t forget the message we shared from the Victorian Council of Social Service earlier in the pandemic about the importance of looking out for each other, especially the vulnerable in our community. ‘You know who can’t 'panic buy' and stockpile household goods? People on low incomes, living week to week on very little cash. Runs on essential items hurt people in poverty. So, please: stop and think about others before you empty out the supermarket shelves.’ Given the average weekly demand on local social services like the Gisborne and Kyneton foodbanks, we know many members of our community face financial hardship - so, please consider their needs before purchasing exorbitant amounts of items. We’re all in this together - take care and stay safe. Mercury Press and Media
