23.01.2022 It's very hard to find an image of this quote - one of my favourites - without someone actually touching their toes! (I find the irony in that amusing but also very frustrating...) Most people needing Yoga Therapy (as opposed to yoga for fitness) will not be able to touch their toes, and while that may be a valid long-term goal if that's what you want, it is not a necessity. True yoga is not what you see on Facebook. Full stop. It is the unity of YOUR mind-body-breath, YOUR... felt experience, YOUR exploration of YOUR body and mind's capabilities... which, when practised with mindfulness, may surprise you. Vicki See more

21.01.2022 How cool is this?! A perhaps unlikely group of guys in a gym being taught body rolls! Love it! I believe in getting creative with movement and broadening movement training / therapy / exploration out of the norm and away from stereotypes! meets

17.01.2022 Happy International Yoga Day!

15.01.2022 Happy International Dance Day (for Saturday)!

14.01.2022 Just some of what is possible where I'm now based, at Western Integrated Health in Subiaco - in addition to yoga, Pilates and manual therapy. We have a fully-equipped gym including the best low-impact cardio machines which won't hurt your joints, and my favourite multi-talented Cybex pulley machine. If you want to regain or build your fitness with a gym programme, in spite of aches, pains or injuries, Jeremy is the man to see - as seen below practising what he preaches!

08.01.2022 Only 1 in 2 Aussies know about hip dysplasia despite up to 1 in 50 babies being treated for it. June has been International hip dysplasia awareness month. Please help us raise awareness by sharing this poster www.healthyhipsaustralia.org.au

05.01.2022 I love this article about how everyone may experience yoga (or Pilates or dance or movement in general...) differently. To each their own. I also love the (Buddhist) idea of 'ehipassiko' - in my mind, a movement class is ideally an 'invitation to come and see for yourself'. If you pay enough attention, you might be surprised what you find, that you may not have expected (or ... were told to expect)!

03.01.2022 Not all Pilates classes / instructors are created equally... If you're looking for a good instructor, ask if they have done a year-long apprenticeship at the start of their Pilates career, versus a couple of weekend courses (or less )... Thank you Narelle Forbes for teaching me everything you know (or should I say 'knew' - that was 17 years ago!!!!)

03.01.2022 Next time you need an MRI, x-ray, CT, ultrasound, or an image-guided injection / procedure, we highly recommend Envision Medical Imaging. In my humble opinion Envision is the best radiology clinic in Perth for musculoskeletal imaging - that is, for knees, hips, spine, etc - so I always refer my clients here. They provide excellent customer service, their radiologists always report extremely comprehensively on scans, and they are always happy to talk with us as physios, if we have any queries about a client's scans.

03.01.2022 As a physiotherapist, I completely agree with these 2 major baby swimming teaching organisations from the UK who have made the following statement about the risks of these floating neck rings in so-called 'baby spas'. It could be potentially dangerous for their necks and spinal development, especially given many wouldn't have adequate voluntary head control at this stage. I can't see any benefit, and I would think it could be a very frightening experience for them to be isolated and restricted in this way. Any perceived 'calm' could just be a form of 'shut-down', as in the 'freeze' response of the 'fight, flight or freeze' reaction that we all have to stress. Hop in the water with your baby instead, and see the joy that connecting in water can bring!

02.01.2022 *** PHYSIO YOGA THERAPY *** Do you, or someone you know, love the idea of yoga, but struggle in a general / beginner class? Or haven't tried because of injuries, pain or medical conditions? Yoga Therapy can help: 1-on-1 or group sessions, individually tailored for your needs and goals, with poses & techniques modified as needed. Vicki Negus is a Specialist Sports Physiotherapist with over 20 years' experience, a registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance, and a Certified Yoga... Therapist, certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists. Her classes are like a "choose-your-own-adventure" in yoga eg. Virabhadrasana (Warrior) 2 here - four ways (& there are plenty more)! Call us on 9468 8889 or email [email protected] for further information (photo credit: Jana Roller)

01.01.2022 Couldn't have said it any better myself. Simple as that. There are no prerequisites for yoga. As the famous BKS Iyengar said: "If you can breathe, you can do yoga." You don't have to be able to stand on your head, touch your toes or look good in tights to have a yoga body.... EVERY BODY is a YOGA BODY See more

01.01.2022 For any mums out there who haven't yet returned to feeling 100% post-baby - if you're suffering from baby brain, brain fog, exhaustion, feeling "tired but wired" - you could have Postnatal Depletion. As the article says, this can be the case even up to 10 years later! From experience I can say that yoga, gentle regular exercise like walking or swimming, and good nutrition really help with recovery. As does enhancing your bonding with your child / children. If you'd like to attend a Mums & Bubs Yoga class, or would like a yoga therapy programme for yourself, contact Vicki at [email protected]. ** All classes and consults are claimable under Physiotherapy private health cover **
