23.01.2022 Project High Holy Days have been working with the Victoria police and DHHS to formulate a set of protocols that will allow members of our Jewish community to hear shofar on second day Rosh Hashana, Sunday, 20 September . Hundreds of trained volunteers will be allocated scheduled walking routes and times to blow shofar outside homes throughout Melbourne. Members of the community will be afforded the opportunity of hearing shofar whilst remaining within their own properti...es. 13.01.2022 How will you celebrate #Shavuot this year, if not in shule? For our Development Assistant (& doyenne of Israeli dance) Annette Bagle, the festival has always be...en about family & food. 'My grandmother, Fajga Laya, did all the cooking on holy days. As an eight-year-old, she had been employed in the kitchen of a Polish nobleman because her stepfather refused to support her. So young, she still needed to return home every Friday so her mother could wash her hair! She learnt to cook in that kitchen; plain & unsophisticated fare, but so delicious. A Shavuot favourite were varenikes or dumplings that look like large kreplach but were filled with semolina & fried onions, browned in a little butter then served with sour cream. My grandmother stubbornly refused to talk to my father (another long story) but always made him special varenikes with a potato filling. 08.01.2022 On Sunday we woke up to the sad news that the great Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks ZT"L passed away. He was regarded as a giant of Torah and Humanity. He was an exceptional leader and an inspiration to many worldwide. It is a tremendous loss not just for the Jewish community, but also for society as a whole. Please join us on Thursday, November 12 at 8:00 pm as Australian Jewry pay tribute to his life and legacy.
