22.01.2022 Fecal Microbial Transplants Hastened Recovery From Severe Diarrhea in Horses A watery manure concoction wouldn’t be a horse’s first choice of a drink, but it ha...s proven effective in helping hospitalized equines overcome severe diarrhea. The watery cocktail, given via a nasal tube into the stomach, delivered a fecal microbial transplant to the unwell horses, hastening their recovery, researchers report. Those who received the treatment also showed evidence of greater normalization of their gut microbiome than a control group. Normalization of the microbiome is critical to attaining gastrointestinal health. The microbiome plays an important role in digestion, development of the gut immune system through mucus production and anti-inflammatory signaling, and maintaining metabolic function...read more: https://www.horsetalk.co.nz//fecal-microbial-transplants-/

22.01.2022 PARA | Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games shortlisted rider Tilda Carnegie Para-Equestrian talks to us about what it feels like to be one year out from the Games that ...she had hoped to make her Paralympic debut at this year. "It’s hard to really describe. It is as if one part of me is happy that I can get an extra year, more miles and hours training under my belt, as I am young and relatively inexperienced for the level I want to compete at. I do wonder what could have been and I would have really loved to do Tokyo 2020 on Devils Chocolate as I had such an amazing bond with her. However, we did have quite a tumultuous campaign and Grade IV is very competitive in Australia, so I was very realistic about my chances for Tokyo. "I have made compromises and decisions that I hope will enable me to achieve my best possible results looking beyond 2020. These pictures are from previous selection events that I did on Devils Chocolate. I feel sad that circumstances didn’t allow me to take her all the way to the top, so these images are for her to shine in her own way. I live in the UK now and competitions are currently going ahead, so I’m very grateful for the chance to compete when the time comes. "Hopefully some of the difficult decisions and compromises I had to make will pay off and show a material improvement in my results. I’m looking forward to the journey ahead and to continue working away at being the best rider I can be. I am just focused on making the best of the extra year to prepare and use the lessons I have learned for future Games" describes Tilda. #Dressage #ParaEquestrian #Tokyo2020 #AusEquestrianTeam #HighPerformance Australian Paralympic Team

22.01.2022 How to Avoid Penalties at Corner Fences - by Gemma Redrup - H&H Alex Whewall is a five-star event rider based near Bristol. Here he explains to to avoid penalti...es at corner fences. Training the stars My retired three-star (now four-star) horse Salt And Pepper was quite keen and strong at corners, which made them tricky. He was so quick that he’d be strong and wobbly and not concentrate. It was vital for me to keep him on his line and get him to focus on where he was going. How to avoid penalties at corner fences 1. Begin by building a low corner fence with two normal height wings and a short one (or use a small barrel as the third wing). Rest a guide pole at the point of the corner to help channel your horse into the fence and minimise the chance of a run-out. 2. While you warm up, ride transitions within the canter to make sure your horse is on your aids. This is crucial as you need to be able to increase or decrease his strides between fences. 3. Approach the corner in a balanced, powerful canter with your horse between your hand and leg. Look up and focus on...read more: https://www.horseandhound.co.uk//how-to-avoid-penalties-at

20.01.2022 RULES | From July 2021 horses competing in FEI events will no longer be able to have their whiskers shaved. The decision was passed at the FEI General Asse...mbly held earlier this week. "Horses are not permitted to compete in FEI Events if the Horse’s sensory hairs have been clipped and/or shaven or in any other way removed unless individual sensory hairs have been removed by a veterinarian to prevent pain or discomfort for the Horse. Areas of hair that must be clipped, shaven or removed to allow veterinary treatment are exempt from this rule. As of 1 July 2021, Sanction 39 in Annex VI will be applicable". The Veterinary Committee believes that the horse’s sensory hairs must not be trimmed or removed as it reduces the horse’s sensory ability. The change will align with legislation in a number of National Federation's where trimming or removal of sensory hairs is forbidden and in some cases carries a heavy sanction. 14.01.2022 DRESSAGE DIARY...with Simone Pearce Dressage "Holding the Grand Prix record is something I’ve dreamt of since growing up in rural northern Victoria watching t...he Olympics taped and on replay for years as a kid and I’m so proud to have achieved this! I remember as a small child I refused to do rising trot in competitions because Anky and Isabel never do rising trot in the shows and they are the best in the world and I want to be like them! So it feels very fulfilling to be riding on these amazing European shows next to them now. "From riding thoroughbreds in Australia, to being an unpaid working student in Holland, riding wild 3 and 4yo sales horses in Germany and falling off a lot to having my first year of competition in Europe without ever placing. I had to train, learn and push myself to stay positive and not give up. "It sounds really funny to say but I kind of always wanted it so bad and I believed that my big dream was possible. I think that if I didn’t believe in it or want it as badly as I did then I would have never stuck it out because it has been a really hard road for me to get to where I am, and where I am now is still just a stepping stone on the way to where I hope to be in the future. "Moving to Denmark and having the most turbulent 3 years imaginable - training amazing horses and winning at the World Championships and taking my first international Grand Prix placing, to then having horses sold and taken away. When I had an accident and broke my arm, I came back and Zhaplin and all my top horses were taken away from me it really broke my spirit. I was close to giving up on the dream of having a long term successful partnership with any horse. I was so down and pessimistic in this time and then Sprehe offered me a job. "In the beginning it was a lot of work with all the horses but now after over a year of being here and most of the horses not having been sold I am finally after 10 years of highs and lows getting the chance to set goals and achieve my big dreams. I’m so thankful to everyone who believed in me and pushed me to keep fighting! The road is long and hard but if I can do it- so can you. Never let anyone tell you your dreams are impossible" - Simone Pearce. #DressageDiary #Dressage #SimonePearce #AusEquestrianTeam #HighPerformance Dressage NSW Inc Dressage Queensland Dressage South Australia Dressage Western Australia Dressage Tasmania Dressage Victoria Dressage Australia

11.01.2022 PARIS 2024 | Château de Versailles Reconfirmed as Venue for Equestrian Events for Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games The Organising Committee of the Pari...s 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games has announced a new concept for its venues in a bid to make budget savings in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was decided at a Paris 2024 Executive Board meeting that some venues should be shared, but equestrian sports, including modern pentathlon, will remain alone at the Château de Versailles. The Palace of Versailles, whose origins date back to the seventeenth century, was a hunting lodge before coming the seat of French power in 1682 when Louis XIV moved not only the aristocracy to Versailles, but also the main body of administration. From the nineteenth century the palace has housed a museum, with the gardens and the Palaces of Trianon, the park of the Château de Versailles spreads over 800 hectares. The proposals are now set to be discussed with International Federations, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Paralympic Committee. 08.01.2022 Top Horse of the day: One in a Million Elvis, aka, The Dude retired from racing mid 2019 (too slow) and been in retraining with me, a RV accredited retrainer, since January 2020. He is now established in all 3 paces and progressing with his lateral work. He has shown a great aptitude for jumping. He’s been out on trail rides on his own and in company where nothing seems to phase him. His first time out cross country training and he was a delight to ride coping with water, dit...ches, tyres and coloured fences in his typical ‘can do' attitude. Elvis has been ridden by a nervous novice and a beginner/novice and has not put a foot wrong. However, Elvis, only being 4, would be best suited to a knowledgeable competition home experienced in bringing on young horses so his talents can be nurtured and he is able to reach his true potential. Due to the current climate that has not been possible to take Elvis out to any competitions, however, I fully expect once able to compete, he will never fail to come home with ribbons. I have never had the pleasure of working with such a talented, easy going, trainable horse before and it will be a joy to continue that journey with him until the right home comes along. He truly is one in a million with huge potential to be anything you want him to be. To the best of homes only. $10,000 Located Lancefield VIC videos available: https://bit.ly/33boDBR or call 0406 077 041
