25.01.2022 Open this Wednesday between 1-3pm. Torquay Food Aid are here to help if you are struggling to put food on the table. We are well stocked and eager to help. If you need assistance please reach out.

25.01.2022 With so many people losing their jobs, regular shifts at work or having their hours cut, we are seeing more and more people in our community struggling to put food on the table. Torquay Food Aid provide clients with a weeks worth of fruit, vegetables, bread, milk, eggs and grocery items. We are seeking donations from the community to assist us with our work. If you could purchase a jar of pasta sauce next time you do your grocery shop and donate to Torquay Food Aid it makes a difference. There is a donation box in Torquay IGA just near the entrance to Bakers Delight, or alternatively donations can be dropped of on a Wednesday at Torquay Food Aid between 11am and 1pm - 2 Pimelea Way, Torquay. Every little bit helps. Thank you.

24.01.2022 Torquay Food Aid will continue to distribute food parcels to our clients next week. Expected delivery times will be between 2.30 pm and 4 pm all going well. The delivery process has so far run smoothly most of the time with just an occasional hiccup. This is a process that is slowly improving each week as we iron out some kinks. Overall, it is extremely difficult circumstances for us as volunteers in our temporary home. We are extremely grateful to Torquay Christian Fellowship for allowing us to work from their building.

23.01.2022 Welcome everyone. The new calender year is upon us. Torquay Food Aid reopened on Jan 8th. Weve seen many of our old faces and some new ones too. Anyone can always cone to us on a Wed asking for food help. No-one is knocked back. The need for food will always be with us unfortunately. This year may bring some new items to our shelves and a larger range of non-perishables if a new partnership occurs. Its something to hope for!

23.01.2022 Thank you Foundation 61 for your generosity this week in donating an abundance of eggs for our clients.

21.01.2022 These organisations can cater for meals for those in need.

21.01.2022 TORQUAY FOOD AID are having a WINTER WARMERS SALE. All knitwear is brand new. NOTHING OVER $5. Sale Date: Wednesday 23rd June 12-3pm @ 2 Pimelea Way Torquay. CASH ONLY.

20.01.2022 WHY WASTE FOOD? According to OzHarvest: 1. 650,000 Australians rely on food relief each month. 2. Methane is produced by rotting food in landfill.... 3. 30% of food produced worldwide is never eaten. 4. Two billion people worldwide could be fed by that amount of wasted food. 5. Waste food wastes 21% of the worlds water each year. 6. Australians waste 1 in every 5 bags of groceries. 7. Eliminating food waste would be equivalent to taking 1 in every 4 cars off the road. 8. "Best Before" refers solely to food quality. Food is perfectly safe to eat but may not be at its best. Therefore, to prevent food waste: 1. dont buy more food than you need, 2. plan meals using whats in your fridge, 3. look at date labels when you buy food. Torquay Food Aid is always willing to take donations of non-perishable food or monetary donations to assist us when we purchase food.

20.01.2022 Any donations of non-perishable food can be left in our collection box at Torquay IGA supermarket. Its just around the corner near the entrance. Anybody wishing to volunteer for packing or delivering food parcels on a Wednesday can contact our secretary, Lois, on 0438 619 094. Many thanks.

20.01.2022 Christmas hampers are available for our clients on Wed 18th December as well as the usual weekly food pickups. Please register with us to receive a hamper.

20.01.2022 Welcome to our Facebook page. Torquay Food Aid began operations in 1994 with the support of the then 4 Torquay churches. It is managed by a committee of representatives from local organisations and churches on a voluntary basis. TFA began small and sourced food from supermarkets and other organisations to be distributed to persons in need who lived in the Torquay area. Currently there are over 60 active persons on our books with a regular attendance of up to 30 persons each ...Wednesday afternoon. Our small centre is stocked by fresh, canned and packaged food which is donated by individuals, churches, community groups, Torquay IGA supermarket, Bakers Delight and First Bite. We have volunteers who attend during opening hours to distribute food on a points per item basis. Healthier foods have less points and so more is able to be provided if chosen. Our clients are welcome to discuss their food access problems with our volunteers and privacy is strictly maintained. Your donations in either food or money are always welcomed. Food can be dropped off for Torquay Food Aid at any of the local churches or the Torquay Community Centre. See more

19.01.2022 Hi everyone The risk of catching COVID-19 is very great and the best way to reduce the risk is to avoid unnecessary close contact. Therefore, beginning next Wednesday 25th March, TFA will no longer allow clients into our serving room until further notice. Instead, were asking for clients to contact us if they require food for each week as it comes. We will arrange a "tub" of food which can be collected at our gate between 1-3pm on Wednesdays. If clients have any special diet...ary problems, please inform us beforehand so we can pack the correct food items for you. Please make contact by an SMS to 0409 614 630 or by email to [email protected]. Torquay Food Aid also requests any residents who may have excess home grown fruit and vegies to contact us. Last week we were unable to get any fruit or vegies from our source at SecondBite. All stocks of food are heavily reduced due to either hoarding or less delivery. Please stay well. See more

18.01.2022 If you have been laid off work during this latest covid lockdown and can’t afford to feed your family this week, please send us a message at Torquay Food Aid and we can organise an emergency package for you. We are here to help those in our community who are doing it tough.

16.01.2022 This week Torquay Food Aid has partnered with the RACV Community Foundation to provide chef prepared packaged food suitable for 2 adults. These items supplement our usual range of fresh fruit and vegies, eggs, bread and other non-perishable food items. These food items are donated to us by the Geelong Food Relief Centre & SecondBite. We purchase extra supplies from Ryans IGA Torquay. The scheme will last until the end of August and we hope it might continue in some form after this date.

12.01.2022 WHY HAVE FOOD AID IN TORQUAY? Many people might be shocked that there is a Food Aid in Torquay. Lifes pressure can get to each and every person and food insecurity is high on the list of problems. Torquay Food Aid manages over 60 persons/families at present with about 20 persons visiting for assistance each Wednesday. What is FOOD INSECURITY? According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation, food insecurity is defined as individuals or households having lim...ited or uncertain physical, social or economic access to sufficient, safe, nutritious and culturally relevant food. According to the FOODBANK HUNGER REPORT 2019, 18% of Victorians have experienced food insecurity in the past 12 months; at least once a week 33% of food insecure people go a full day without eating; children represent 22% of all food insecure in Australia; women are 1.5 times more likely to have food insecurity; food insecure persons are 5 times more likely to experience psychological distress. Australians with a history of personal hardship are more vulnerable to food insecurity. Unexpected bills or housing payments are often the immediate reason a person will go hungry. But there may also be more complex factors that make someone more vulnerable to food insecurity. For example, seven in ten Australians experiencing food insecurity (70%) have faced being unable to find a job for an extended period at some point in their lives. Australians experiencing food insecurity are put off seeking assistance because they think there might be people who need assistance more than they do (41%). Embarrassment (40%) and shame (39%) are also common barriers. Torquay Food Aid assists our clients with friendly conversation and companionship as well as offering our clients a range of free pre-packaged food, fresh fruit, eggs, milk and bread. Torquay Food Aid welcomes enquiries from persons living in the Torquay area and we are always ready to help with a smile each Wednesday afternoon. 11.01.2022 Our Secretary, Lois Gill, and our committee member, Laura Connor, were two of three guest speakers at an event marking International Womens Day, held at the Surf Coast Shire building last Friday. Congratulations Lois and Laura

11.01.2022 Torquay Food Aid welcomes its new committee today. Mike Buckley stays as President, Vicki Hertaeg becomes our new secretary, Mandy Buckley is the new treasurer and Laura Connor is a general committee member. TFA sincerely thanks the services of John Forbes as the past treasurer and Lois Gill as the past secretary. Each has served over 20 years helping TFA. They need everyone's deepest congratulations for such long term commitments. TFA is in a great space with loads of healthy food available for anyone in the community. Please encourage people to contact us if they need a hand. We're always willing to help.

09.01.2022 Yesterday was another busy day packing and delivering food to the Surfcoast. With many new volunteers both packing and delivering, we managed to give over 20 families a weeks worth of food items. A sincere thanks to all at Torquay Christian fellowship who continue to act as our home at the moment. Pastor Danny and Deb in the office have been marvellous to us in a time of urgent need. We had great luck too because we received an enormous amount of fruit and veg from our partners at SecondBite. Thanks guys! It seems like some food relief agencies are closed right now BUT WE"RE NOT. Torquay Food Aid continues to help anybody who requires some extra food only now it is mainly by delivery thanks to COVID-19. All you have to do is ask!

09.01.2022 These hampers make it a lot easier for us to live, with power and gas prices going up it makes it really hard. We know COVID-19 is impacting families right ac...ross Victoria. And although we are unable to run our usual Farms to Families markets, were ensuring hampers of fresh fruit and veggies are going out to those in need - just like the Hindall family. See more

09.01.2022 Im sure were all becoming worn out by COVID-19 by now BUT......it is so important that we continue to assist everyone in our local community who might require food assistance. We can only manage it because of the wonderful help we receive from others such as our tremendous volunteers, our donors and our community organisations and companies who give us great support. Surf Coast Shire has supported us since our inception 26 years ago. Our friendly volunteers willingly give u...p their time to pack food parcels and distribute them, buy the food necessary and pickup food from some of our supporters. We rely on our providers such as Ryans IGA Torquay, Bakers Delight North Torquay, SecondBite, Geelong Food Relief Centre, RACV Community Foundation, Spring Creek Egg Farm and Zeally Bay Sourdough. Of course, we would be unable to be working at all if Torquay Christian Fellowship had not come to our rescue with a new facility for us back in February this year. Now, we have a large freezer where we can store frozen products. This adds to the food items were able to supply to our clients. Last but not least, lets give thanks to the clients themselves who despite being in difficult situations re food, are usually so friendly to our volunteers and grateful. Many are long term friends of ours. See more

08.01.2022 Were still working and thats all because of Torquay Christian Fellowship who have allowed us to work from their now vacant rooms! Thanks Danny!! The numbers of new clients over the COVID-19 pandemic seems to have eased a little - thankfully. Maybe the extra government handouts are helping our clients. We are providing our clients with a greater range of very fresh fruit and vegetables and non-perishables due to our associations with both SecondBite and the Geelong Food Reli...ef Centre. On top of that, there have been many wonderful food donations from individuals and our Surf Coast Shire office staff. Everyone, either donating to us or our wonderful volunteers (many are new to us), deserve a huge hug and we promise that we will do that just as soon as were all allowed. Meanwhile, please stay safe and well.

08.01.2022 Hello everyone. Were ecstatic but a little overwhelmed! Torquay Food Aid has had a wealth of volunteers wishing to assist us in food deliveries from next week onward. We probably now have more than enough so please hold off on passing your name on to us at the moment. There is a meeting tomorrow amongst some local organisations that might reinforce cooperation between us all for the benefit of the community in this time of sickness and trouble.... Remember to stay safe and assist others where you can.

07.01.2022 WE CAN HELP YOU Food is such a vital part of everyone's life. Unfortunately there are people around our town who cannot afford to feed their family adequately. Foodbank Victoria suggests that up to 10% of families struggle for food each week now during COVID-19. We have great access to quality healthy food items every week, in fact more than what we give away to our clients. An easy solution is to give to more people. So, please contact us and we'll keep your family healthy and you can pay your household bills safe knowing that your family is well fed. Give us a call or text or email!!

07.01.2022 This is a message to any Torquay area residents who feel that they need extra food each week in these times of illness and closures, please let us know you need help. We can add you to our client base with a weekly provision of non-perishable food, bread, long-life milk, fresh eggs, fruit and veggies. If you require assistance, contact us on [email protected]

07.01.2022 Hi everyone. Today we managed to create food parcels for our clients thanks to our friends at Torquay Christian Fellowship. TCF came to our rescue yesterday on extremely short notice when we found out that our usual home at Barwon Health Torquay was no longer possible because they banned volunteers under the COVID-19 warnings. Fair enough, rules are rules! We rapidly had to move all our stock from Barwon Health before they closed for the day. Thanks to those who responded t...o help move carloads of food stores! We hope no-one suffers a bad back today. All of us at Food Aid want to pass on our extreme thanks to Danny, Deb and the TCF Leadership team who made this wonderful decision, allowing us to assist our clients today. We do not know what is in store for next week or even where we will be. Our clients will receive a text a few days before next Wednesday advising of our situation. We may have to make home deliveries under the government regulations but well need further advisement before then. For our clients who visited today we thank you for your patience when we were so disrupted. Please remember that we are all volunteers and of an age where we are more susceptible to this insidious virus. We dont know how many volunteers will be up and about next week, so lets take one deep breath and take each day as it comes. Above all, stay well and hopefully well see you next week!

06.01.2022 Weve been busy at Torquay Food Aid over the past 2 weeks searching for more ways to improve our service to those with good insecurity. First was a visit to the very busy and enormous Foodbank warehouse in Yarraville. Second was visiting CCCM Foodbank at Melton thanks to our friend Jim. As a result we learned new ways to assist with our food procurement, management and service. Our committee meets on Feb 18th to discuss all that we saw. Exciting times!! Stay tuned.

06.01.2022 Another weeks worth of food parcels handed out to our increasing list of clients, and were still managing well thanks to our new crew of enthusiastic volunteers. We love to thank some very special people who have given some very generous food item donations into our Torquay IGA box. They include Coastal Blinds And Shutters and our own Surf Coast Shires office staff. Torquay Stockfeeds have continued with a weekly supply of fresh eggs meaning our clients can be a little mor...e creative with their meals. Thank you!! The enormous amount of fresh fruit and vegetables comes from both the Geelong Food relief Centre and SecondBite. Both have increased their delivery quantities to us. Bakers Delight North Torquay continues to provide us with loaves of bread, buns and sweet treats. Without the generosity of Torquay Christian Fellowship allowing us to work from their premises, we would not be assisting our clients at all. Once COVID-19 restrictions finish, these donors and supporters will be the first we give a group hug to. Thanks everyone and stay well. See more

03.01.2022 Torquay Food Aid is open tomorrow between one and three pm. Due to the weather we ask that you enter via the ramp so that you can shelter from the wind and rain.

01.01.2022 The risk of COVID-19 viral infection is now amongst us and new procedures will take place at Torquay Food Aid from Wed 18th March until further notice. These include surface sanitising, hand-washing and the use of gloves for our volunteers. For our clients, they need to respect our protocols or need to seek food staples elsewhere. If they have any signs of an infection, they will not be allowed into the serving area and will have to tell our volunteers what they want. The vo...lunteers will take their supplies to them in the car-park where the client can pack into their own bags. Naturally, any unwell volunteers must not attend their rostered day and a replacement needs to be found. They cannot attend until their GP certifies their health is normal. Some unwell clients may require home delivery of food. Please talk to Michael to arrange that. Stay safe and well amongst the general panic elsewhere. See more
