21.01.2022 The news of iconic department store Barneys filing for bankruptcy is a timely reminder of the importance of supporting bricks and mortar stores. Online shopping, whilst easily accessible and admittedly addictive, moves the customer away from the experience shopping is supposed to be about. We’ve all indulged, and we’ve all eagerly awaited the arrival of our packages. But it’s a clinical activity, devoid of any semblance of personal touch. We need to retain the nostalgia of th...at experience. Discovering a store you don’t yet know, walking into a store you love, engaging with the people inside it. Shopping should be tactile - you need to feel, to touch, to see with your own eyes how something looks on the rack, and how it falls when you slip it on in the dressing room. You want to be able to walk into your favourite store knowing you will find what you’re looking for because you know and trust the buyer’s edit. So this is our call (or plea) to action. Support small business. Support the people that aim to give you the experience they would want to have themselves. For TORSA, my main directive (as my girls can attest) is we want people to feel welcome when they walk in, included as they walk around and good about themselves as they walk out. We won’t do fake, we don’t do snobby and we’ll give real, honest feedback. If someone walks out feeling bad about themselves, that’s on us.
