25.01.2022 The impending national emergency legislation will allow the federal government to declare a state of emergency for the whole country. What are the ramifications? PO BOX 20, Parkville, 3052 0439 395 489 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Chdw3xK3Y7I&feature=youtu.be

24.01.2022 This week’s presentation is a belated federal post-budget analysis. The 2020 federal budget is an extraordinary budget because it is based purely on Liberal party values, instead of options which properly address the fact we are in the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression. It is a budget based on the one value of private investment for private profit. It is a budget designed to assist medium to large businesses and corporations. So what has been proposed? Busine...sses will be able to offset their purchases until July 2022. This all sounds well and good but the real issue for micro and small business is paying the back rent and bank loans they have taken out with extraordinary interest rates. The budget also proposes to pay 99% of businesses $100-$200 for every young Australian they employ between the ages of 16-35. What about those over 45 who find themselves on the chronic unemployment heap? Then there is the $50 billion worth of tax cuts. Who will get them? Those who earn over $90k per annum will enjoy the lion’s share, even though they are unlikely to spend the cuts on goods and services. They are more likely to invest the money. All together, these measures will not stimulate the economy. If you want to stimulate the economy you need to give money to those on low incomes who will spend it. It is a ridiculous budget. A values-based budget. A totally wasted opportunity. In contrast, we at PIBCI believe we need to extend the economy by extending the public sector and developing a collective and cooperative arm. We cannot rely solely on the private sector. What about addressing the budget deficit? For this we need new taxes directed at those sections of the economy that pay voluntary taxation. 1/3 of this country’s 1,500 biggest companies paid no tax the past 12 months. We advocate for a 1% stockmarket turnover tax. Every time a stock or share is sold, 1% goes directly to the treasury. We could raise $150 billion a year with this tax. The other tax which could raise $250 billion a year is a 1% financial transaction tax. With these taxes we could finance a Universal Basic Income (UBI) for all Australians. So we have options. PIBCI would like to register as a federal political party by the next election (May 2022). We currently have 423 members who are registered on the electoral roll but need 550 to do this. If you are interested in groups of people who pursue options that are not just based on ideology, we encourage you to go to our website and if you are still interested download the application form. Join us. We have options which can address many of the problems which 25 million people living on a resource rich continent should never have to face. Thank-you for watching. 20.01.2022 A number of things are occurring in the next few weeks which are interesting and which highlight the inadequacies of the Australian constitution. What we have seen recently with the Australia Post debacle is that public institutions, via the constitution, do not belong to the people but to the government of the day. That is why governments can sell public institutions like the Commonwealth Bank and Telecom, along with utilities like electricity, gas and ports, without having ...to have a referendum. Furthermore, governments have the power to make life appointments to the boards of institutions who reflect their political ideology. We are witnessing this with both the ABC and Australia Post. It gets worse with the legal system. Over the next week, the Morrison-led government will be appointing two new judges to the High Court. They will not be appointed on the basis of their expertise or their legal standing, but on their conservative, reactionary, ideological positions. There is no constitutional mechanism by which the Australian people can be involved in the appointment process. The Australian constitution is, inherently, a trade agreement between the states and the commonwealth. It does not protect the Australian people economically, judicially, nor in terms of individual rights. Most importantly, it allows a government to have profound influence on Australian society long after it has lost power due to having the power to make life appointments in public institutions. The only way we can change the nature of the constitution is to initiate a campaign to introduce citizen-initiated referenda where citizens can bypass parliament and put fundamental questions to the people. We at Public Interests Before Corporate Interests - PIBCI want to introduce major reforms to this resource-rich country to ensure no one lives in poverty, that everybody’s basic needs are met through a Universal Basic Income (UBI) and that we are all included in decision-making processes. That’s why we encourage you to look at our website and see what we have to say and what we want to do. As individuals, we can achieve very little change, but together as a movement we can. All struggles start with a first step. Make you first step by joining PIBCI so together we can influence the social, cultural and political debate in this country. Thank-you for watching and see you next week. [email protected] www.pibci. net PO BOX 20, Parkville, 3052 0439 395 489

15.01.2022 This week we resume our journey learning about the Eureka Rebellion at the moment of the Eureka Stockade. Although it was a short-lived event, it influenced dig...gers right across the Victorian goldfields. Within 12 months of the rebellion, its leaders were all in parliament, including Henry Lalor, and it set in train a series of events which made Victoria one of the most radical places in the world and Australia one of the most worker-friendly places on the planet. In 1876, Victoria was the first place in the world to introduce free, secular, compulsory education. The Eureka Rebellion is a story that is important for all Australians. Its lessons are as relevant today as they were in 1854. On the 3rd of December, a few of us will be celebrating the four basic principles of the Eureka Oath in Ballarat internationalism, solidarity, direct action and direct democracy. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and social restrictions, this year’s celebrations will be limited to our regular dawn service at 4AM-6AM which you are welcome to attend. At midday we will be meeting at the Old Ballarat Cemetery to pay our respects at the graves of the diggers. We encourage you to celebrate on the day, whether you are in Ballarat or not. Eureka is universal. Make a Eureka flag. Fly a Eureka flag. Talk to your family and friends about what you are taking the day off for on Thursday the 3rd of December. Thank-you for watching and see you next week. [email protected] www.pibci. net PO BOX 20, Parkville VIC 3052 0439 395 489

15.01.2022 Joseph and Chris are in attendance at the Murchison cemetery, 15th November 2020, to mark the murder of Francesco Fantin, 16th November 1942. Francesco Fantin:... strident anti-fascist, atheist, anti-militarist and anarchist. One of a wave of refugees who fled Italy after Mussolini came to power. He raised awareness about the evils of fascism in Australia. RIP, Francesco Fantin. A man we should never forget. 11.01.2022 The Murdoch empire: a degenerative neurological disorder that destroys the mind, body and soul of anybody who comes into prolonged contact with it. This week we will look at the domination of the Murdoch empire and how it sets the political, social and cultural agenda in Australian society. How does it do it? Why is the legacy media still important? Why is print media still important? With the Murdoch print empire dominating Australia as it does, it basically determines what ...will be the news of the day, what the agenda will be for radio and television stations who, in the main, still rely on getting their morning news via the legacy media. The daily topics of discussion on social media are also determined this way. The effects of this domination are that today in Australia we have people fighting against their own interests because they have complete faith in the agenda set by the Murdoch media. People that fight for a better world or a different world are perceived as somehow ungrateful. The Murdoch media empire is a blight on this country. What are we going to do about it? Every major political party in Australia is hostage to the empire as it makes or breaks them. We therefore encourage you to join a political party that does not care about the Murdoch empire. PIBCI is here to make the changes that are needed. Have a look at our website for what we have to say. If you are interested, download our application form for membership. You can always leave a message on 0439 395 489. Conversely, you can write to PO BOX 20, Parkville, 3052. Thank you for watching.
