Turmeric is oil soluble, so we add coconut oil for the body to more easily absorb the nutrients in the intestine. Without oil, more would pass through the digestive tract! ... So why do we add the pepper? Piperine in pepper has been found to help with the absorption and ingestion and longer lasting action of many drugs. The tiny capillaries in the intestine unfurl and stretch in response to the presence of piperine. This gives a greater surface area where nutrients are passed into the blood stream and allows for higher rate of absorption. How interesting is that!
