07.01.2022 The Annual RIGGS Cup is celebrating its 17th year next Monday Long Weekend (5th of Oct). Originally named the Leeton Skate Comp which started back in 2000 on the completion of the part community-funded/designed and build Skatepark, one of the first of its calibre for the area. The Riggs Cup is coming equal second to Ballina fair (20 consecutive years) and The Annual Fernside comp (21 years strong) as the top 3 longest-running competitions in Australia. This... name change was dedicated to a very young & gifted Griffith local Skater and friend Richard O'Hara. After easily winning every comp in Leeton and surrounding areas, it was a shock to the small but tight Skate crew that Riggs had sadly taken his own life. The comp name was changed in 2003 and has been known as the Riggs cup ever since. It's an honour to have my name on the trophy next to a long list of great people and skaters. Not many people know about the name "the Riggs cup" or of it's importance to a small group of old skaters. The comp has taken on its own meaning now, to so many young people and families in and around Leeton. It has become a high light of the year and a great day out. As much as it's a chance for a few older guys to reminisce, it's more an opportunity for many to enjoy and celebrate that vibrant community the Skatepark has to offer. We also take a moment to speak about Riggs and the importance of identifying and supporting people in your life that may be struggling with their mental health. 02.01.2022 Well that’s a wrap! Our September & October School Holiday programs are done so here are a few highlights. We’re SO stoked on the support shown from the many Communities we had the pleasure to visit. We zigzagged our way all over NSW from Sydney to Central Western NSW, The Riverina for the inaugural Riggs cup(congratulations again @felicity_turner) and down the South Coast through the heavy fire affect areas of Shoalhaven and Southern Highlands. Over 3000 kms and 20 events ov...er 2 weeks. What a trip, what an experience. Thanks to everyone that come and got their shred on, the families and friends that joined in, and the many supporting councils.
