25.01.2022 Interesting. There will be a significant need for teacher training in behaviour management to ensure that schools are able to support all educational needs. Lets hope that the public education system will invest in this.

25.01.2022 Winner, winner chicken dinner!! Announcing the winner of our Great TMB #iso Bake-Off!! Congratulations to the very talented Analise for her amazingly artistic and intricate Apple pie! For those who dont know, Analise is one of our amazing Senior Behaviour Therapists. For her incredible effort, Analise has won a voucher for dinner for two with Merivale at Home.... I would like to thank the whole team for embracing this competition so wholeheartedly. Just another example of the commitment, effort and hard work Team TMB puts into everything they do. My team are truly out of this world

25.01.2022 So excited that TMB is featured in the NEW 2075 Magazine. Available online or you can grab a copy at our office next week. Such a great community magazine! Check out page 19 to read about how our Clinical Director, Kristin, and her family settled on the beautiful suburb of St Ives for their home and now her dream clinic. Thanks to the Neighbourhood Media team for their awesome work putting this together!

25.01.2022 Love this! It’s easy to make the change from singular pronouns and it makes sure everyone is included. #inclusivity

24.01.2022 The field of behaviour analysis has lost a great man. I did not have the pleasure of meet Dr. Martinez-Diaz myself by I have heard so many wonderful this. His passion and caring was inspiring for so many. He will be missed.

23.01.2022 I was so excited to get a first look at our new photos today. Heres a sneak peek. Massive thanks to the incredible Josh Lorschy, who is not only fabulously talented, but a joy to work with. Enjoy! https://www.tothemoonandback.net.au/sneak-peek-of-the-tmb-/

23.01.2022 Very excited to premiere this video. Meet the amazing humans that make up Team TMB and learn why they do what they do.

22.01.2022 Rockets A Gogo - Another awesome virtual team event! Our team artist Analise led us all (patiently) in a paint and sip class. I think the results are pretty fantastic! Cant wait to see them hanging in the office when we go back in a few weeks! Thank you Analise for sharing your incredible talents with us!

22.01.2022 The transition to kindy is an important milestone and can be challenging even when we aren’t experiencing a pandemic. It’s good to hear that some schools are thinking outside the box when it comes to easing the way in the absence of being able to do in person orientations. Hope more schools will do the same.

20.01.2022 Everyone has been asking me what cool toys I have in my toybox. I thought instead of telling you, Id show you! You cant beat sensory toys for enhancing motivation and providing opportunities for communication. Pairing yourself with super fun reinforcers can have a magical effect on your therapy, tranforming you from a chore to a to die for! These toys are specially selected to be interactive and have built in communication opportunities. Plus, did I say they were super fun? Happy playing!

20.01.2022 Wishing everyone a wonderful first full week back at school. These past few months have been very challenging for us -especially those who find changes in routines difficult. We are cheering on all of our superstar kids and parents. You got this!! Be safe and remember to wash your hands!

20.01.2022 Its Speech Pathology Week!! 1.2 million Australians live with a communication disability. Communication disability is largely invisible. More confident communication helps maximise educational, social and health outcomes. Communication is more than just speech!

19.01.2022 I havent posted about the Griffith University Masters and Graduate Certificate Programs in Applied Behaviour Analysis in a while. 2020 has been such a whirlwind, but I am incredibly happy to report the program has started and is going strong. This weekend, I am writing some content for the students on teaching early language skills (my specialty topic!) and am so excited to share it with them. A behaviour analytic professional (e.g. BCBA) can be a powerful addition to th...e intervention team (e.g. SLP, OT and family). Our students will learn how to use the principles of positive reinforcement, modelling and shaping to build strong language repertoires in the learners they work with. Does this sound like something you or someone you know would like to learn more about? Applications are open now for our next intake in 2021. Check out: https://www.griffith.edu.au//graduate-certificate-in-appli https://www.griffith.edu.au//master-of-applied-behaviour-a or drop me an email at [email protected] and Id be happy to chat to you more about it.

19.01.2022 Fabulous interview! Well worth a listen! Thank you so much Annies Centre!

18.01.2022 Hell spread the word: Hands off our NDIS. Thank you Every Australian Counts for getting the message out. This plan is spectacularly misguided.

18.01.2022 Happy Friday!! It has been a long week but this just absolutely made it. I received our first application for the ‘TMB Internship Program’ and I could not be more excited. Here’s the backstory: Some of the members of our delightful ‘Awesome Adults’ group have been working with our team on general vocational and social-communication skills. One of these wonderful adults had the idea of coming to TMB for work experience! It’s still early days and this will be a pilot, but fingers crossed, we look forward to offering the opportunity to others who may be interested in the future. Through the process, we hope to assist with resume and cover letter writing skills, interview skills, goal setting, organisational skills, social communication in the workplace. The opportunities are endless!! Watch this space!!

17.01.2022 Very excited to get word today that two of my SPA workshops have SOLD OUT!! Still spaces available for the workshop on the 3rd/10th August. Check out https://learninghub.speechpathologyaustralia.org.au//1072- to register!

17.01.2022 Check it out! A fantastic resource to support people with intellectual disability getting work. Thanks to The Growing Space for sharing.

16.01.2022 A must watch if you care about the future of disability funding here in Australia. We have been reading and thinking a lot about the ridiculous plan for NDIS compulsory independent assessments but don’t think we’ve heard the issue presented quite as succinctly, nor as passionately, than by Dougie Heard. Thank you Mr Heard for speaking so clearly and emphatically against this plan. We must get this right. The lives of hundreds of thousands of Australians depend on it.

16.01.2022 I love this share via PrAACtically Speaking AAC - Australia. The little things may seem like no big deal to us, but to a little person (and not so little persons) with anxiety, having a plan AND knowing the plan can make a BIG difference!

16.01.2022 Using a visual schedule effectively is the closest thing to a magical power that I can give parents (and therapists, too!) Want to know more? Read the latest TMB blog and dont forget to click on the link to download a pdf version of these top tips. https://www.tothemoonandback.net.au/how-to-use-a-visual-sc/

14.01.2022 We have just a few spots left for Mission Cooperation over the upcoming school holidays. Contact [email protected] to register your interest! Did your child start school in 2019 or 2020? Do they need help learning how to play cooperatively with other children? Do they have difficulties with losing games?... Are they often following their own agenda instead of sticking with a group? Would you like your child to learn the keys skills foundational to developing friendships? Mission Cooperation is for early school aged children, aged 5-7 years old. This group is designed to teach children to play cooperatively, be a good loser (or winner!), and to follow the group plan and so much more!!. Mission Cooperation is all about learning how to make friends and having a ton of fun while doing it! Your child’s program within these activities will be tailored to suit their needs. PROGRAM SCHEDULE: PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU HAVE TO COMMIT TO ALL 6 SESSIONS OVER THE 2 WEEKS Week 1 Session 1: Tuesday 29th September 2020 Session 2: Wednesday 30th September 2020 Session 3: Thursday 1st October 2020 9:30-12pm Mission Cooperation (2.5hrs) Week 2 Session 4: Tuesday 6th October 2020 Session 5: Wednesday 7th October 2020 Session 6: Thursday 8th October 2020 9:30-12pm Mission Cooperation (2.5hrs) LOCATION: Sessions will be held at our clinic in St Ives: Unit 13/177 Mona Vale Rd, St Ives.

13.01.2022 Meet the amazing humans that make up Team TMB and learn why they do what they do.

13.01.2022 What are you good at? Such a simple question but one that perhaps we dont ask children on the autism spectrum often enough. This research led by Assoc. Prof Dawn Adams from Griffith University is the one of the first to focus on the strengths not the deficits of people with ASD. Lets hope its the first of many https://www.disabilitysupportguide.com.au//researchers-ask

12.01.2022 Team TMB had a photo shoot yesterday! We hadnt updated our website photos since 2016 when it was just little old me (Kristin) in the pics. It was a fabulous fun day and reminded me of how wonderful our team is and how much I love coming to work. Shout out to the amazing Josh who took time out of his busy life to help us with our creative vision. And of course @bintahellemans who needs to be a director/show runner in her next life. We cant wait to share the results with you all. Watch this space.

12.01.2022 Just about to start a one-day online workshop with the team at Moving Mountains Therapy - Occupational Therapy & Speech Pathology. Thanks for inviting me and I look forward to sharing some great tips and strategies with you all!!

10.01.2022 Welcome to To the Moon & Back :) Did you know that our four therapy rooms are named after NASA astronauts? Can you guess what they are? (Hint: If you look closely, you can find one of them in the video!)

10.01.2022 This is totally unacceptable and shocking but I have to say, it is not surprising. Schools must invest heavily and regularly in training for their staff in positive behaviour support. This will make all the difference in the world to children like Mikayla. No one, especially children, should be subjected to such horrific treatment.

08.01.2022 We love books at TMB! In honour of Speech Pathology Week our fabulous Speech Pathologist, AJ, wanted to tell you about her favourite book for working on language and speech skills. This book is sure to help get your child Communicating With Confidence! Ill bet youll be surprised by her choice - I know I was. Thanks AJ! Happy reading!

07.01.2022 I’ve been thinking about this issue quite a bit this week, as I’m editing modules for the students in the Grad Cert and Masters of ABA Program on the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disability and restrictive practices. Service providers have a vital role to play supporting people with disability to advocate for their rights under the CRPD. This post is an excellent summary of some of these issues. Thank you to The Growing Space for getting this conversation started. The Growing Space

07.01.2022 Ok seriously. This looks really cool. *Disclaimer: TMB takes no responsibility for any injury resulting from trying this ...But it does look really fun...

07.01.2022 Meet Team TMB on Sunday 23rd at 8 pm! Josh has created an amazing video that captures the essence of who Team TMB is and why they are so special. We are super excited to share.

06.01.2022 Beware The Dont Do That Loop! We are all guilty of it ( ) This is a really simple and effective graphic from BCBA Lisa Anne Flaherty to remind parents how to avoid this really common parenting trap.

06.01.2022 It’s Speech Pathology Week!! 1.2 million Australians live with a communication disability. Communication disability is largely invisible. More confident communication helps maximise educational, social and health outcomes. Communication is more than just speech!

05.01.2022 We are very excited to share this news! Jill and Micaela are long time friends and colleagues of TMB. They are embarking on a wonderful new adventure. Check it out! 04.01.2022 I have long admired Lukes amazing photography on our local St Ives Community Page. What an incredible young man he is with an ability to see what others cannot. Take a moment to look at his amazing photos! You wont be sorry you did. https://kuringgailiving.com.au/18-year-old-st-ives-local-c/

04.01.2022 Is it a restrictive practice or is it not? Whilst behaviour support practitioners can look to the definitions in the legislation, it’s equally important to think about it from the perspective of the participant. Thanks to Sam at The Growing Space for this perspective.

04.01.2022 Missed Kristins parent coaching Bootcamp on 6th April?? Dont worry! You can still purchase the recording. https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/parent-coaching-bootcamp-re

03.01.2022 To our speech pathologist and behaviour analytic colleagues: Do you have (or have you previously had) a client aged 2-5, diagnosed with autism who had less than 5 functional words or sounds at the start of your therapy? A research team at Griffith University are conducting a survey to explore the use of practices to teach functional speech to children with autism. 02.01.2022 What is involved in an early intensive ABA program for autism? This is an excellent article published by ASAT that answers all the burning questions about starting an early intensive behaviour program. It is so important for parents to be aware of what to expect so they can advocate for only the highest quality services for their child. https://asatonline.org//clin/early-intensive-aba-program/
